As I'm trying to decide between hacking up a server rack I already have or something like this, a quick background. I do a lot of prototyping of parts and materials, and now I'm breaking into PC parts. My present case is a semi-inclosed, horizontally arranged PC that I'm in almost daily and all the panels are essentially just sitting in grooves for ease of removal. The top is accessible, but the underchamber is a Massive PITA to get fingers into, so I might as well look at a total open frame or even something I can mount on sliding chassis rails. The P3 Pro and the P8 popped up several pages deep in my searches, but look like nice candidates, thus I am here. 😁 It will also live in my workshop that has lab equipment and machinery like a CNC machine. Dust is an issue, but I implement many measures and a cleaning schedule. By the by, your camera is trying to interpret lighting differentials between you and your back wall with the light/dark color palette and the clock; (looks nice I will say, but the autofocus will have troubles without more light control). Then again, this is at least a year late, and you probably know this by now. Kudos for the Christmas Story clip, too. I use that All the time. 👍
It sounds like you've thought this through carefully, and the open-frame design will be much more accessible for your use case. I am curious how you plan to keep dust from a CNC machine out of it, though.. that sounds messy. Yeah, thanks for the heads-up regarding the autofocus. I have since changed locations, and it's much better on my more recent videos. Let me know which case you end up going with.
@@JohnLCharette I built a pressurized enclosure for the CNC and now suck the particles out of the air. At least with wood and foam, they are siphoned right out of the air with a blower/handler combo. 😁 Only thing of concern is the low pressure interior is being contorted a bit, so I had to sacrifice a little internal pressure with a bleed valve of sorts (read, adjustable slot in a wall). Cut a hole in my wall and now chips and dust exit into a dump cart on the other side through salvaged Nordfab tubing (got a whole pallet of mix and match for $100 from a local aerospace manufacturer; score!) It certainly had it's challenges. I'm sure you saw the look on my face while I tried to figure it out live on camera.. haha. Did you run into similar struggles with mounting the power supply?
@@JohnLCharette, yes, I had to place it upside down as well. It works great though. I have it mouted on the wall. I have an AIO on the CPU that is mounted to the right of the motherboard. I plan to put a closed loop 4090 and I'm debating placing the GPU AIO on the top or the front of the case in the additional bracket it comes with...
This sounds like an incredible build. I would love to see photos! I would recommend mounting the GPU AIO radiator on the top, if the tubing is long enough. If you do end up mounting it on the front, I recommend the tubes being at the bottom of the radiator vs the top so air isn't trapped in the tubes. It shouldn't make a big different with performance, but can make gurgling sounds.
Stumbled upon this video after I also stumbled on the latest refresh of the Core P3. I love the redesign of the PSU/(vertical) GPU mount. I wish they sold glass panels for the front and top though. Perhaps in the future?
Ohh, interesting idea to have a glass panel on the front and top as well. I wonder if that would close off air access too much. Do you have one of these Core cases right now or are you considering one?
@@JohnLCharette I did a Core P6 build for a friend and the temps were fine due to the gaps on the lateral ends on the glass panes. Essentially, I am inquiring about mimicking that. Ah yes. I knew one of their models had a glass front. I searched P5 and didn’t see it. It’s the P6! Yeah, this new P3 Pro would allow 420mm and EATX. I’m loving it so far!
I can't see why this wouldn't work flipped 180 degrees. The GPU would still be horizontally mounted. The power supply gets until support with the U shaped bracket. I ordered one and bought a Corsair SHIFT PSU with it and worried now that I have to make some cutouts on the case for the PSU cables because the PSU outputs are side mounted on the SHIFT.
Yes, you're absolutely right. Depending on how you mount it, if you don't want the cables coming out the front, you'll need to cut a whole in the case. That being said, if you do it well and hide it behind the PSU, it would be SICK. You wouldn't see any cables at all. Don't worry. The PSU fan always sucks air IN through the case. I was incorrect thinking that it would blow out. It sucks air in through that fan and blows out the back.
Air always blows out the back of a PSU, but yes, it’s pulling air in from the top, which could be close to the GPU. It was the only way I could mount that PSU due to the case support.
