It takes around 30 minutes to fit with just three wires to connect. It works by siphoning off charge (up to 1.1A) from your leisure batteries to trickle charge your vehicle battery. Funny you should say this, I have just had this problem. I called out Green Flag to charge up the battery and then I purchased a trickle charger.
thinking about gettting one of these for my narrowboat , i have a couple of questions you may be able to help me with , can i connect straight to the starter battery & leisure batteries by just connecting lugs that fit battery terminals ? does this unit come with longer wires or would i need to connect more wire myself to fit where i need this to go ? thanks for your help

"Overcharging of the second battery is excluded, since the charging voltage is reduced by at least 0.6 V " quote from website.
That means the engine battery with never received a charging voltage greater the than 14..2 - 0.6 ≥ 13.6 V so never more than about 70% full!
You confuse charging voltage to the vehicle battery with battery actual state of charge (capacity) you get a realistic state of charge voltage 24 hours after removing the charging voltage. Charging at 13.5 volts may retain charge in the vehicle battery but won't ever fully charge it ( you need 14.2 or more for that)
With your large available power from the solar panels why not use a dual charge controller and keep both batteries fully charged?
Can I use the negative terminal of the vehicle battery for the earth as its earthed onto the vehicle next to the battery??

Hi Paul, I have a factory fitted solar panel that charges the leisure battery. The controller has two outlets so you could connect it to the van battery. Whats likely to be the most effective and efficient way to charge the van battery - off the preinstalled solar panel controller or via one of these off the leisure battery ? thanks
I have my solar panel charging both the leisure and vehicle battery, but while the engine is not running. Can I ask is it safe to run the vehicle whist the solar panel... through the solar controller)... is still connected to the vehicle battery? I ask this because will the heavy charge coming from alternator feed back into the solar panel and burn it out as it could do that I suppose. I have an in line fuse from the vehicle battery to the solar panel controller where there are 2 connections for 2 batteries, No1. I have the leisure battery and No2. I have the vehicle battery connected, as I only have one leisure battery I didn't want to waste that No2 battery input at the solar controller panel. Can you advise please?

Great idea but iam in a overlander truck 🚚 with 24v starter batterys and the live in box is all 12v is there away to convert?
