  • Mimi Rooney and Ben Swim look to an alternative method of insecticides to reduce pest populations on their flower farm by introducing flowering cover crops to attract predatory insects. In this Western SARE funded research project at Brown Dog Flower Farm in Palmer, Alaska, Mimi and Ben planted buckwheat, phacelia, red clover, and alyssum in the form of cover crops as a home for predatory insects to prey on the pests eating their flowers.
Watch as Mimi and Ben share their experiences of this Western SARE funded research project.
