Beautiful dog! My wife has been asking for a puppy for 18 years and I finally gave in. She found what we believe to be a Beagle/Treeing Walker Coonhound puppy at a Rescue about an hour from us. We have had him for one month and he is now 4 months old. We will not be out hunting with him but he has been a great addition to our family and I think I am going to lose some wait with all of the walks and runs that he and I have been doing lately! :)
I got Roper from someone who had him AND HUGE dog in an apartment. I am on 70 acres and have had many dogs in the past. I was not prepared for a 5 yr old Coon hound. He's less of a dog as he is a wierd roommate. He sits and stares disapprovingly and is not afraid to give you a hard 'no' on something he doesn't want to do. They are definitely a different breed.
I found a Treeing Walker pup on my back porch back in 2015 at about 4 in the morning she might have been 7 weeks old if that at the time. First coon dog I've owned and yup the most stubborn opinionated dog that dog I've had the pleasure to meet. Still can be high energy to this day but mostly settled down now. Will give you the stink eye like no ones business if she doesn't like something , has her own routine and you better stick to, but a damn loyal and loving dog.. love that dog more than any dog I've ever had.
My Treeing Walker Coonhound is 2 1/2, still eats what few trees I have left! My wife and I used to have a house and acreage, now "His Majesty, Bull" allows us to stay in his kingdom. Hands down the absolute best dog I've ever owned. Beware, it's bad enough getting a dog better looking than you, but in my case, he's much smarter too! And fast, I tried dragging a hide behind a remote control racing car I borrowed, Bull caught and killed the car, very expensive lesson. :)
Walkers are extremely stubborn and clingy if you are there person expect no personal space you do need to show who is the boss but not in a dominating way more of a friend manner good luck
Feed them, Tracks, Tracks,Tracks, (Bryan Regan) I cant say enough Tracks!!! Congratulations, really enjoy y’all’s channel and look forward to a new season!
Make sure to give her the deworm and flea and tick medications, especially in the first year for the worms. If she's like mine she'll eat anything when she's outside and that leads to round worms.
Beautiful pup man! Tbh in my honest opinion, especially at this stage just spend plenty of time with the pup and create a good bond! The rest will come later
I’ve been running coon dogs my whole life. Best thing is to have a puppy trainer like an old dog with good habits. Get the pup out there with some well train hounds. Shoot one out start by laying some short drags. Pick that pup up and show her that coon that you put up the tree. Let her get her nose in it and take it away never over do it. What I mean by that is don’t let her get bored with it always keep her wanting more. Also maybe look into a rolling cage but the same goes with that don’t put the coon in front of her and let her bark until she gets bored and walks away. You have to spend a lot of time with pups you need to train a few times a week at least. My pups start training as soon as they come off the mothers tit. Good luck my man you’ll never forget your first hound.
