@Merchant I'd like to know also. I think you were going on a 2 week schedule, but it's closing in on 3 weeks since the last episode. Hope there are more and you didn't just give up on this campaign.

Love this campaign so far. Good chemistry, gameplay, and humor.

Merchant, an alternative critical hit damage idea that doesn't feel as bad when you roll low damage I do for my campaign. The character rolls a natural 20 with a longbow. They automatically do max damage (8 on a 1d8) then they make their normal damage roll (a 4 for instance), and add the 8 to it. So they take the 12 damage and then apply the regular modifiers afterwards.
Yeah I've seen a couple people use this, I'm not a fan.
I do this for my group. The problem is that the bad guys get the same rules and it can be devastating both ways.
@@MerchantTV , To piggyback off the other two posters, is there a specific reason or reasons you're not a fan of the purposed critical roll alternative? I mean rolling a critical hit, then rolling significantly lower damage than a normal strike seems kind of unfair. Anyway, do you use any modified rules/homebrew or only RAW stuff? I do like the series, and am interested to see what happens next. I'll also be checking out Descent into Avernus, take care.

Roll20 has the ability to make your own maps, but they also provided all of the maps for the published modules.

SPOILERS BELOW
DMing question: I do get that character death is a thing, and that with too much plot armor there is no suspense to dangerous situations. However, I feel that the death of a character should serve the greater plot in the story that we tell as a DnD group. So my question is, was it entirely necessary to let Izar die here? Yes, it was reckless to go exploring on his own. Yes, there are dangerous things in a Duergar-fortress. However, there were several opportunities to let him off the hook:
1. He did take the time to check for traps, and his dagger-rope-contraption could have triggered the mimic and sent him running for help. Even if the Mimic rules don't explicitly state that something like that would reveal it, the rules serve the DM, not vice versa, right?
2. When he started yelling for help, at some point the others could have heard him. Especially using Thaumaturgy should have made him audible in the next door room(I know Justin didn't say this, but in the throes of death his instincts might have taken over).
Let me know what you guys think, and I would love to hear Merchant's thoughts on this situation/decision.

Yes it’s absolutely necessary hah. Justin went off on his own in a big dungeon. It could have gone fine but it didn’t heh, D&D without threat is pointless, and all my players know I do not hand out plot armour.

He got greedy and got punished. It's part of the game. It adds excitement and uncertainty.
