Wow what a great game! Boston Ironside vs. Japan Buzz Bullets. a. Buzz Bullets are markedly shorter than Ironside and they can sky with them! b. They're smaller and they are getting knocked around. Super physical - I guess it's all about touching the disc first and bring the contact (afterwards). It's just too bad that these games are decided so narrowly and too bad, in my opinion, that there aren't observers that act like referees, and there aren't slow motion replays from several angles to try to resolve foul calls unambiguously. Maybe if they played best of 3 or 5 (whatever's necessary) to get a definitive separation. Plus, I hate to say it, but Ironside turfing the disc when I think a goal would've won the game kind of makes the end look like sour grapes. Maybe they deserve to lose after that, if they can't get a clean D. Not saying they didn't - it's hard to tell. But the calls seem to degenerate - the travel to retract the first win - maybe it was, but I'd like to see the slow motion replay on that too.

catching DOES NOT unambiguously indicate a D - because you can hit him first and then catch it. But I guess it sets up two distinct points in time - when it was in my hand and when I felt him. And then, I guess, it's easy to tell (?) which came first. So, maybe, catching it does make it easier to tell? But then you could just say, did I contact the disc first or hit him (also distinct events) so, on the other other hand, I'm back to no - it doesn't mean anything foul wise. Play wise it's vastly better because it gives no opportunity for second effort off the tip.

I like the discussion - maybe BB needed to call foul on the D. But Ironside had just turfed it - gave away possession through gross error - then the D is hotly contested (and maybe legitimate) but it comes off picky after basically handing them the disc. Very unfortunate - I wanna see the guy who turfed it explain his regrets - not really. I feel bad for him.

although unintentional I'm sure, this amounts to a twenty five minute indictment of "spirit of the game". Everyone wants it to work well, because it should, and would be great if it did, but all too often in the moments where it really counts it fails. I've only been playing a few years and it's clear to me that observers and refs are the way to go. Spirit is great for a hat tournament, not for worlds and nationals... my two cents. Let the debate rage on!

I've always found it somewhat sad that US teams take US Nationals more seriously than Worlds :/

Kappa Well, US Nationals is a significantly higher level of competition.

Oh yeah, I agree and do know why that is but it's kind of a sad fact isn't it.
Can you imagine if the Premier League was more important than the World Cup :(

Those have to be some of the softest foul calls I've ever seen from the Buzz Bullets at the end of the game.
