I watched this over and over with my team mates on the bus going to my very first tournament. These guys became my idols. Ultimate is a tiny sport in Denmark and yet I was able to eventually play both with and against a few of the legends shown in this video, and I was watching the Sockeye game live with Flemings insane catch. Such good memories!
This highlight reel is not strictly a "Best Highlight" reel, but a combination of my best highlights and an opportunity to showcase the players who have made the biggest impact in the major tournaments that I have covered. This is my attempt to tell the story of UltiVillage in a way that will captivate the attention of ultimate fans and anyone who can appreciate the athleticism this sport requires to play at the elite level. Stay tuned for the women's version coming soon. Rob
There's a difference between cheering, and telling your opponent, "Nice catch," or "nice throw." There is no shame in that. Clapping =/= Cheering. Cheering = "WHOO YEAAAH!" Clapping = "Well done."
Actually that really depends on who is running the tournament. Some organizations do have refs and some don't. But that aside, Ultimate players spirit for the game is huge
epic vid, but im not too familiar w/ the game. i know that the goal is to pass the firsbee through the end zone. i was wondering why in the video sometimes the player would catch the disc and instead of stopping because i think youre not allowed to take anymore steps, they run n jump around or just toss the disc up like at 1:22 and they kinda celebrate? is that the end of the game? i thought points are only received when you pass the end zone. sorry if this is a dumb question
i don't know about the rest of you... but i'm not a huge fan of people slamming the disk after a good play. Ultimate has a reputation for good sportsmanship guys... lets keep it that way
That awesomeness is called a greatest. If can jump from inbounds and throw the disc back in (before you land OB) and if someone catches it, its a point.
@MemphisT56 which greatest play?? Worlds 2010 Andrew Flemming´s catch do you mean? Is the last one if you couldn´t saw it. Ultivillage is awesome!!!. Greetings from Colombia=)
I saw Fleming's catch live... this camera angle doesn't give him credit. It looked totally impossibly to catch. They were practically both halfway, and he ran it halfway down the field, a disc that looked like it was getting away from him the whole time. It was INSANE.
I was in the stands too. I remember looking away from the play, started chatting with my team mates. In my mind I had decided there's no way he's getting to that. And then he did. The crowd erupted. Best play I've ever seen live and still my favourite highlight to watch
one of the other things is that you have the right to the space above you which means if contact is made your space above you its a foul...it really does still come down to how the involved players feel though
So what's the actual rule about contact when going for a disc? If two players jump for the same disc and smack into each other in the air, is that a foul or what?
@jhimm It's not a foul: The principle of verticality does NOT state that entering someone's airspace is necessarily a foul. At 0:47, there is no contact preventing a blue player from catching the disc; rather, they don't catch it because Beau (#50 in red) gets there first and highest. Any subsequent contact is irrelevant.
I think you misunderstood, I think not having a ref is great, spirit of the game is what make ultimate the great sport it is, I know world disc gamers that have fessed up to game winning catches that didn't quite make it-spirit of the game
1:28 .. I don't know why people insist on continuing to use this clip. I understand that it was the deciding point, but all it shows is people running past a clearly injured player showing zero regard for him. What a great thing to have in a highlight reel ......
Marcus Ohman Anyone who has played serious competitive ultimate knows that isn't a "clearly injured" player. While yes, there is a chance that he may be injured, another likely situation is that he knew, under most circumstances, he would have stopped that point from happening, and is merely taking a second to curse himself under his breath for the fact that his man sky'd the life out of him for an epic score. I know I've done this before, and I know many others who have.
@P8ballK0 how is that unsportmanly? that's like saying Tiger Woods' famous fist pump isn't good sportsmanship.... it's a product of performing a great feat/play and being overcome with emotion. I do that type of stuff in every sport i play because of precisely that.
@jhimm Incidental contact is contact defined as contact that has no effect on the play. The player who did not jump, for example, wasn't going to get the disc and therefore any contact with him is irrelevant and incidental. Also, denying someone their vertical space by moving them sideways is also irrelevant to the principle of verticality (though a reasonable normal foul).
@jagcag123 its only an illegal play if "mike grant" intentionally tipped the disc to himself to gain more yards but since they were both going for it and the disc got tip unintentionally the play would still stand.
@jhimm Incidental contact is by definition irrelevant. The players best positioned to judge whether or not the contact mattered are the defenders in blue, and none of them made a call. I guarantee that if they thought a call as warranted, they would have made it. Also, you're arguing the wrong part of the rules: knocking someone over isn't necessarily more-than-incidental contact, but it may fall under "reckless disregard for safety."

2021 still the best vid!
Seriously, Fleming's catch gives me chills...everytime
Este fue el vídeo que más me impacto hace 12 años cuando estaba empezando a jugar, gracias a él hoy día continuo jugando y enseñando este deporte.
The weather always looks good in these videos, they should try playing outdoors in UK!
Sick video.
Sport: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment
one of the best greatests i have ever seen.
At 3:33 The dude ages like 20 years in a split second. lmao
Sick! Totally awesome!
How has this video had
There's a difference between cheering, and telling your opponent, "Nice catch," or "nice throw." There is no shame in that. Clapping =/= Cheering.
Cheering = "WHOO YEAAAH!"
Clapping = "Well done."
This looks way too fun!
it's unbelievable, he is such a boss
That's why you catch the D.
Great video :D
It's really fun to play this sport :D
Very VERY well done video. Good job
Actually that really depends on who is running the tournament. Some organizations do have refs and some don't.
But that aside, Ultimate players spirit for the game is huge
when the hat came off at 3:39, that guy went from looking about 15 to 50 hahaha
i played in college before sunset.........damn! its more exciting than studying my lessons....
Every one of these guys should play a CB in football or WR cuz they catch crazy lay-outs
3:17 is the best one. That guy is a good two feet above the others!
My favorite sport. Ultimate Frisbee mas que un deporte un estilo de vida!
todos dicen eso del deporte que les gusta. basquetbol, mas que un deporte, un estilo de vida. No! es un maldito deporte y punto.

this video is awesome!!!
1:46...Fleming's trailing edge grab...unreal.
Congratulations from spain ( ultimate video editor)
Where i find this song and more of this group? Thanks! Great video! good job!

That awesomeness is called a greatest. If can jump from inbounds and throw the disc back in (before you land OB) and if someone catches it, its a point.
I heard about Ultimate Frisbee. Don't know really much about it...but it looks ok. I may have to actually watch one of my friend's games.
Man I wish we had tournaments around here
@MemphisT56 which greatest play??

just played ultimate Frisbee for the 1st time tonight, fucking LOVED it.
2:47 looks like a strip to me
Awesome video
this sport looks hella cool, do colleges have UF teams?
2:36 is the such an unreal catch
2:15 look at the lady holding the white umbrella! :o
one of the other things is that you have the right to the space above you which means if contact is made your space above you its a foul...it really does still come down to how the involved players feel though

The first catch in this is SO much better than Andrew Felmings big one in Worlds in 2010!
So what's the actual rule about contact when going for a disc? If two players jump for the same disc and smack into each other in the air, is that a foul or what?
Still the best video
this sport looks dangerous nty
Super fun. Give it a shot. Tons of running but once you make a catch it feels so good!
Beddytear Compared to something like rugby or cheer leading it looks incredibly safe
Yeah, i meant to say that and said it in my follow up comment, but you're correct.
I don't think I've seen a better play, let alone catch, in any other sport, than Fleming's catch
@jhimm It's not a foul: The principle of verticality does NOT state that entering someone's airspace is necessarily a foul. bald spot or no bald spot, that was on ESPN
@Zillamp3z Several of the clips are from the World Championships and the World Club Championships. So, yes.
what song is this? :o
That ending though.
# 6 who did the layout block, look at his reaction at 0:24. lol
@UKHOGGY where are you based? There is a tournament this weekend (4th/5th June) in London (Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields). Come and watch!
I think you misunderstood, I think not having a ref is great, spirit of the game is what make ultimate the great sport it is, I know world disc gamers that have fessed up to game winning catches that didn't quite make it-spirit of the game
Freaking awesome
@jagcag123 not at all. I would consider that a bobble for sure. There is no way you can say that he had possession of that disc.
@SurfinHollister when you catch the disc in the end zone that you're attacking
@CinnamonBunz55 since when did a game being on tv make it a sport??
i want to be one of these guys one day
Really. Josh Zipperstien. What an awesome name. HAHAHA.
1:28 .. I don't know why people insist on continuing to use this clip. I understand that it was the deciding point, but all it shows is people running past a clearly injured player showing zero regard for him. What a great thing to have in a highlight reel ......

Except he's holding his head because he got hit in the head by the guy playing "college style" Ultimate...
is this a sport people play internationaly?
This is before his time. These were from 2009 mostly.
@UKHOGGY there are tons of ultimate teams in the UK dude. every university team has one
2:37 is unreal
no dylan freechild?
@UKHOGGY Yeah there really are a tonne of teams
In the endzone, obviously.
holy shit mike caldwell threw that back in to a teammate? can someone tell me what happened there? 1:36
i wish my body slide that much when i played ultimate in the beggining
of the vid
@P8ballK0 how is that unsportmanly? that's like saying Tiger Woods' famous fist pump isn't good sportsmanship.... it's a product of performing a great feat/play and being overcome with emotion. I do that type of stuff in every sport i play because of precisely that.
what is it with them and bald patches..
2:47 = Awesome.
Ultimate
The ridiculous mac grab at 2:01 is Angus Keenan (Thong vs Buzz Bullets 2006 WUCC open final). Freak!
Wait, this is actually a sport?
@jhimm Incidental contact is contact defined as contact that has no effect on the play. Began and ended with two epic bald spots.
can someone explain the rules to me? sorry but i ifnd this awesome but i have no idea whats going on :L
man...it always seems to be windless...
I am the best frisbee player in the US, hands down.
@jagcag123 its only an illegal play if "mike grant" intentionally tipped the disc to himself to gain more yards but since they were both going for it and the disc got tip unintentionally the play would still stand.
i'm sick and tired of everyone who says this is not a sport. How can they say that after looking at this vid?

never gonna get the disc if you are too slow to get open anyway :/
@shtayve COOL ARGUMENT, BRO. YOU MADE SO MANY GREAT POINTS.
@crazyhillbillies Yeah, college teams are what really started the sport.
Mike Grant: best player ever
The game is based on sportsmanship. Notice there are no refs.
Furious George is the best team ever!!
2:35 hey der! ;)
There's a reason that last guy was number 23
@deejaysmoothblend to point i to catch it in the endzone. They only jump up and celebrate after they score.
Song anyone
it was actually on tv today, and theres kind of a pro league but it kinda sucks. itll happen though
I love Caldwells Greatest!
you mean like hockey?
If you're gonna be short and slow, you better become a really good handler.

Thats landing in the grass.
