There are many hawker centers around Singapore with some stalls open for breakfast & lunch only with some hawker centers stall open for lunch, dinner & a few of hawker stalls in some hawker centers open for supper too. Need to check out their opening hrs. 7-11 are pricey, especially drinks. Better get drinks from hawker centers, food courts, supermarkets, mini marts which are much cheaper.

@@LoveOfFoodNetwork yeah because u're in the city center most people go there to work, there's very few residential areas.that is why most hawker stalls only opens from 9-10am onwards to cater to the working crowds. whereas on the outskirts of singapore where most singaporeans live, the hawker stalls opens as early as 5am in some places.

Hawker centre next to wet market or above wet market are opened as early as 7am and closes at 3.30pm. These stalls caters to housewives, students and cab drivers and residents nearby. Those stand alone hawker centres without wet markets usually operate from 11am to 9pm.

Welcome to Singapore. There is no broth in the half-boiled eggs. Is just half-boiled eggs with some pepper and soy sauce. If you dropped by the largest hawker centre in Singapore - Chinatown Complex you will find many stalls opened from very early in the morning. Don't have to try Tian Tian chicken rice (only tourists queue for it). Try visiting Old Airport Road, Tekka Place, Haig Road hawker places.

Welcome to Singapore! The peanut sauce goes with the satay and ketupat (rice cake); and the dark sauce is for the prawn skewer.

In every hawker centres, there would be stalls operating in the morning or day or at night, depending on the food been sold. There is no fixed operating hours imposed. Ended up, some HC might seems closed till noon or not operating during afternoon. Really depends.

@@LoveOfFoodNetwork Just to add on to that, some hawker centres may cater to the day or night crowd... some are more alive late at night or some operate early and close shop around mid noon...

As someone had already explained... Some of the stores specialized in Breakfast... Most will be aimed towards the lunch and dinner crowd...
And there are those that will be open for nearly the whole day...

FYI. Satay is to be paired with the peanut sauce. The hot sauce is pure chili sauce, not for satay. I am a Singaporean who has lived in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, Michigan from 1996 - 2010. Hope you enjoyed the local food here ! Old Airport Road Food market in my mind has the best and one of the biggest selection of local food available. Be sure to try the local dessert chendol.

Maxwell HC mainly serves the office workers there. Likely why they start later. HC in the heartlands usually operates from as early as 6.30 or 7 til very late at night.

That's kaya + butter toast. You can also dip it into the egg. And the next time you're here, please try Malay food. Don't have to be Chinese all the time.

The soft boiled eggs has no broth, it's just watery... White pepper & dark soya sauce is usually added, some people might prefer light soya sauce... 😊
The peanut sauce is for the satays, the other sauce is for the prawns 😅

@@LoveOfFoodNetwork yeah there's lots of good food in Singapore... Besides hawker centres, we also have coffeeshops that you can go to for breakfast & other meals... They are not cafes, they are like a small version of hawker centres but usually found on ground level of a building... We call them coffeeshop because usually the owner of the coffee stall owns the coffeeshop ☺️

Don’t follow the longest line. They are all tourists following the same guide book. Definitely locals won’t line up for more than 15 minutes.

You are meant to dip the satay into the peanut sauce. If you don't you are missing out half the experience. Also eat with the accompanying rice cakes, onion and cucumber for a textural contrast. The prawns/shrimp are something only tourists eat, they are not traditional, and I don't recommend them....they are kinda unimpressive. The star of any satay are the chicken, beef and beef tripe (babat). If you go to Chinese run satay stalls, they will also have pork.

    • @LoveOfFoodNetwork
