I grew up watching and leaerning from the likes of Clayton Moore, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassity, and others. Trying to live up to their morals and code, working hard to be like them. I had something to set my sights on as I grew up. Sadly today kids don't have these teachers anymore, and I believe that is part of the problems we face as a nation.
Rob, a real tribute to a true American a real hero, The LONE RANGER, (CLAYTON MOORE) entertained us but taught us what it was to treat each other with respect and dignity which helped to make this world a better place. He deserves a place of honor in our lives and the continuing showing of The LONE RANGER and his many appearances he made to the public. A really true man and hero.

Clayton Moore, Jay Silverheels, William Boyd and Roy Rogers are among a type of men sadly missing today. True hero's and roll models for young men and not just TV hero's, they lived by the examples they set. Today our son's have few men to look up to other than athletes and actors who often turn their back on our flag while living extravagant lives, never returning anything of moral or ethical value to the children who watch their every move. We watched Hoppy, Roy and Clayton fight the bad guys, watched astronauts wave at the door to space capsules and our parents taught us to honor men in all types of uniform. Who do our son's look up to now? To a child, good men are no fun when the exploits of rowdy drunken men fill social media screens. If we are to survive as a nation we must shield our kids from the bad and live by the standards of honor, strength, courage and kindness these men set all those years ago. Its time to start building men again, teach them our true history and values and prepare them for the responsibility of adult life. (Sorry, getting a bit long winded here!!)
I think Clayton Moore/The Lone Ranger was the embodiment of all that the western hero should be and it would be difficult to gauge the full impact he had on kids growing up in the 50s and 60s. He taught millions of us the difference between right and wrong and about ideals like justice and honor. I feel lucky to have grown up in an era that still had such heroes. Thanks Rob for showing this wonderful tribute and for all you do to preserve the legacy of the heroes and characters of the past.

He should have if he hasn't already received one, an Emmy for his role as this famous character. I could not find if he had anywhere. Seeing Johnny Crawford on here was wonderful since his passing recently. Your telling of the story when he gave you a "silver bullet" for your son was beautiful. A Lone Ranger restaurant opened up in the early 70s in Huntington Beach on Beach Blvd. My stepdad heard it on the radio to meet Clayton Moore there so we raced up there but just missed him by just a few minutes. Well, we got to see Silver. Up to this time, I only remember hearing the Lone Ranger creed only once or twice before. Too bad his marker didn't have the creed with it. Maybe one day it will be there.

My formative years were the 1940s, and in my small southern town on radio, The Lone Ranger was heard daily at 5 pm. All outdoor play ended with enough time to get inside and turn on the set. After each episode, my friends and I adjourned back outside and reenacted what we had heard. All took turns being the Lone Ranger, Tonto, and all the other characters. My grandmother bought our neighborhood's first television set. It didn't replace the radio where we still heard The Lone Ranger but in 1947 Clayton Moore embodied our hero in a half-hour filmed series. So, at 5 pm on radio, we heard Brace Beemer as TLR, and at 7 pm we saw Clayton Moore, sounding like Brace Beemer, and Jay Silverheels as Tonto. The first three episodes told the continued story of how The Lone Ranger was born. This was brand new to me since the radio series started in the 1930s. Twice, the Wrather Corporation betrayed the Ranger's fans; replacing Moore with John Hart, and later taking legal action to deny Moore the mask. When Clayton Moore died in 1999, I told friends that with The Lone Ranger gone, the world was now in for one helluva time. Little did I understand then just how bad it would become.

I wasn't going to watch this video, but decided to watch after I found out Johnny Crawford was one of the speakers, ....so I did, and then the memories flowed back recalling watching TV in the 50's and all the great shows that we watched as kids.. this is truly a great tribute, not so much as to "The Lone Ranger" Clayton Moore, but to all the great people who were in those fantastic black and white TV shows . Never came close to meeting Clayton Moore, almost feels like it should be "Sir Clayton" or something like that, but his interviews, philanthropic acts, and other public episodes and the testimony of so many who knew him make me feel like I knew him personally. He was a very special person in our wild and sometimes weird world. RIP Ranger Moore.
It was just his birthday. He was born on September 14th, 1914. Many famous cowboys were still alive at that time. Those thrilling days of yesteryear were still pretty recent.

I started thinking about Leonard's comment about there being no heroes these days. It seems that the whole concept of a hero has changed and does so every few generations. I'm guessing that most of the folks here on this channel are around the same age as I, and history will paint us as an odd generation that had fictional characters as heroes. I think that, as young adults, our hero worship switched from those characters to very successful people in whatever field we chose to go in. They don't have to be exceptionally famous; if I were to make a top ten list of mine, very few people here would recognize even half the names. The heroes we had as kids have never lost our love, though. Roy Rogers remains my favorite of them all these years later. Guys like him still mean a lot to us, and we can still learn from them. The Lone Ranger and specifically Clayton Moore is way up there. But try to gets kids interested. Not a chance. I saw my kids grow with cartoon and video game character heroes. Maybe things haven't changed all that much, but I'll stick with the cowboys.

If you ever wondered whatever happened to the original ANYTHING, it's in there. Even Charlie McCarthy is there! I met Charlie in the mid '70s, but he didn't seem to recognize me at the museum.

I don’t know whether this story is true but I just yesterday heard it, however, it epitomizes Clayton Moore. The comedian Jay Thomas told this story on Letterman. Thomas was working at a store that had Clayton Moore appear as the Lobe Ranger! During the show Thomas and a coworker smoked some herb. After the show Clayton stood waiting for his ride which didn’t show. So Thomas and his high coworker volunteered to give the Lone Ranger, still in full costume, a ride to his hotel! On the way a car accident happened and the other drive fled! Thomas and his coworker who both had long hair gave chase with the Lone Ranger in the back seat. Finally the other driver pulled over! He disputed he was at fault and boasted that he, an older more dignified looking person would be believed and who would believe two long haired hippies? Out from the back seat came the Lone Ranger still in full costume and he approached the three and in true Clayton Moore fashion said quite firmly “I will”! The wrong doer knew at that point he had no chance to get away and paid for the damage to Thomas’s car!
