Look at those vintage lanes ! Man I love that place, bowling alley’s have always held a special place in my heart. Going with the folks in the 70’s and running up and down the carpet playing pinball and other games, man do I miss those days
These lanes look old, but yet have a bit of modern flair in them. The ball return reminds me of a long-lost bowling center Greenwich Lanes here in Greenwich, CT. They had Brunswick lanes. Now it's some high-end shopping in a town that may as well be an extension of New York City! The light-up indicators remind me of another long-lost alley, the Bowl-A-Mat in Stamford, CT (now a furniture store). Only they had AMF setters which lit an "X" for a strike. My father took me there way back when. The nearest alley to me is Bowl-Mor in Norwalk which once was Rip Van Winkle lanes.
Bowled the worst game of my adult life there about 12 years ago (before they remodeled). Changed my delivery and last time I bowled I got 6 strikes in a row! Love the old places. In 1955 - Chicago had 195 (yes - 195) bowling alleys (now called "centers). 5 or 6 in every Chicago neighborhood. Now only a few left.
Nice place! I like how the walls over the pins shows you which pins are remaining--I don't see that in very many places these days! I also love the music in the background they played. Do you remember if most people there used their phone/app to score, or did most people score with pencil/paper? I'm also wondering if they have house balls, house shoes, and bumpers, or is this place mainly for league?
From what I saw, most people used the pencil/paper. They have vintage house balls near the entrance, plus some left on the ball returns. They have shoes available. I don't believe they have bumpers since the gutters are the old wooden gutters.
Those are the original old school ball returns from the Brunswick Golden Years. That's how they were like before the underground systems were developed.
I bowled at Rose Bowl East in Wichita, KS growing up in the '90s. It opened in 1956, and had the above ground ball returns, Brunswick A-2 machines, 1980's Brunswick masking units, and didn't get automatic scoring until 1992. Probably the last center in town at the time to get it 😂 Unfortunately, it closed in 2002, as business declined due to the highway it was on being expanded, and the car dealership next door, which owned the building, wanted its land for additional cars/service area/etc. It was demolished in 2003.

Sick 80s jams!
holy cow this place is so cool! I’m definitely going to have to visit some time in the future. It looks like quite the experience!
It is indeed! Just make sure to call ahead and reserve a lane (unlike what I did 😆)

Oh boy so cool
A retro bowling alley
Did you see Bilbo or Frodo when you were bowling? I think Avondale is somewhere near the Shire!
No but I definitely saw a Gandalf by the bus stop lol
I bowled here when it was still Northwest Bowl
Nice! Is it similar to how it is today, or did they have different colored masking units?
Love your videos. Are you in Chicago area or Midwest?
Chicago area
Watch the black ball at 556, rolls back to the ball return, then immediately shoots down the right lane
It happened because there is a cut in the video.
Do they oil by hand or do they oil with a machine
I actually visited a few times I met the manager she is awesome!
why are there ball returns like that
