The blessing/curse of this podcast is that it's so engaging and nuanced that I have to only listen when I can completely devote my full attention to it. Like, I'm writing this comment during an ad break so I don't miss something funny or insightful.
Like, I can do cardio, laundry, dishes, maybe cook something really simple.

i’ve been tested for ADHD twice by actual psychologists for experiencing the exact things hasan was mentioning. Once at UCLA which was a specific test for ADHD and another time just by talking to a psychologist who was asking specific behavioral questions.
What i learned was there’s a lot of other things that share the same symptoms of ADHD, in my case it was depression and trauma

Great episode! Hasan was a perfect guest for a podcast like this. Based on his appearance on this and Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard it seems he doesn't mind being vulnerable and pointing out his flaws and is also open to learning from others how to sort things out. Overall a relatable and insightful episode (as usual).

ADHD and Procrastination overlap a bit with Executive Dysfunction (or Executive Functioning Disorder). Executive functioning helps you self-manage tasks. There are a lot of things under the Neurodiversity Umbrella: ASD, ADHD, OCD, SPD, social anxiety/GAD, dyslexia, Tourette syndrome, Dyspraxia, etc. Many of them have overlapping symptoms.

No one who actually *has* autism or ADHD or any neurodivergent trait, i believe, actually wants it. But it’s important, as there is more information out there and as we might relate to it, to learn how to live and cope and exist in a neurotypical world. I try to comfort them, but they seem made to suffer. So no, I have no desire to be on the narcissistic /neurotypical spectrum.
Edit: that said, I live in a world of very high functioning autistic people who make normal people look like intellectual simpletons. I cannot speak for low functioning autistic people. Any type of low function probably envy the normal.

Opinion pieces are trending on NYT likely because we don't feel like we have any control over big important issues related to our bank account - they feel too big to do anything about. News articles about economics/politics always make the readers end up feeling hopeless. By contrast, voicing your opinion (a la social media) gives people the illusion of agency and influence, especially on social topics of race/gender/sexuality. It's a distraction, like was said.

it is humorously misplaced, but i find that hasan's example of ronnie leaving him on read underscores the place he sees their relationship. firstly, he wishes to scream at his friend in his first language, his mother tongue. when left on read by ronnie, hasan projects his feelings of abandonment not on the real (being ignored by a friend) but on the symbolic order, his place in his friend's life and the way it has suddenly (although only very slightly) been called into question, "the rabbit hole" he calls it. hasan is confused as to why, but he knows without a hint of doubt in his eyes that he wants to scream in hindi. he feels the need to communicate as close to the chest, in as homely a fashion as possible to illustrate the social aspect of his worries (his place in his friend's life, this sudden opening of a vortex of variables). "don't give me that comedy store bullshit" comedy store is famous for not paying people back, but also for bumping regulars that have supported the place for years (friends) to put on some hot new big shot (variable).
