Papalagi - White Foreigners In The Pacific (1993)

  • Looking back at Captain Cook and the devastating effects of foreign powers on Polynesia. Introduced diseases had a ruinous effect, and generations of men were lost to slavery. Those stolen included the highborn and knowledge keepers of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), leaving an all but irreversible cultural vacuum. There are stories of a powerful conflict between ideologies, as the tools of religion, literacy, and forced governance overturned Polynesian ways of life. Interviews across Polynesia showcase people trying to revive their cultural ways and heritage while dealing with the ongoing wounds of foreign influence.

*There are many contextual impacts, both positive and negative, about colonialism. But one that stood out was a profound quote by Bishop Tutu of South Africa in one of his BBC interviews where he stated: **_"When they first came, we had the land and they had the bible! They said, 'Let us pray!' and we closed our eyes. When we opened them, they owned the land and we owned the bible!!!"_*

If you watch this movie called “THE OTHER SIDE OF HEAVEN” PART1..it shows you how they played the Tongan people using religion. It’s so fcukd up it pissed me right off!! Tried to get my partner to watch it but his ass scared of seeking the truth!! It literally shows a missionary going to Tonga on a mission..HIS MISSION WAS TO BUILD HIS GODS KINGDOM WITHIN THE TONGAN KINGDOM!! Now if that was me, and your a visitor and your mission is to build a kingdom within my kingdom..THATS A THREAT TO ME AND MY PEOPLE !!

Can any Samoan, Tahitian, Fijian, Tongan, Hawaiian, Rarotongan etc Descendant share knowledge of

One would have to go to the marae that they are inquiring about ...
So, if you are interested in Raiatea, Marae Atea go & seek the local natives & elders of that marae.
They shall be able to share their stories of the marae/fanua and nu'u/villages plus islands... 🙏🙏🙏
For they are the keepers and knowledge holders of their marae... 🙏🙏🙏
Remember to be open minded, for each elder/teacher will have their version to share, for that was told & taught to them...

I only ask to hear other Polynesian Chief descendants to Harken to there interpretation to why we no longer sit together as Chieftains .

Each Tribe Samoan,Fiji, Raro, Tongan etc will have there own
      Story to Speak of.
I have never traveled out of Aotearoa, and most possibly won't till my people get back our own Independence.
We sit together during the Month of October the 28th.
We as a Nation are to sit and Wananga from the month of October 28th to Feb 6th
It doesn't happen as too many have forgotten or ignored there Tupuna path to free themselves from Bondage...

Before the palagi brought over christianity, Did polynesians have another religion/god they prayed to? From a curious tongan

    • @tonyhalalilo1
      @tonyhalalilo1 7 місяців тому +1

Of course we did, we worshiped many Gods of the Tahi, Fonua, weather, Christianity took off for two reasons, literacy was very much appreciated and also the Tui Tonga of the time King Tupou the 1st needed a new frame work of Hierarchy, as commoners were rising up against the Tui Tonga movement of the time. There are stories of Pacific people from across the multiple islands having Tatatau flayed off their skin, because the bible said no to markings of the sort, as you had to pray to the one new God! Catholism was particularly gruesome particularly in South America with Conquistadors, bayoneting babies if people did not convert! Christianity No 1 and Atheism No 2 are responsible for the biggest mass killings of people on earth to this day.

@@tonyhalalilo1My Tupuna also had many god's.
      But only one Supreme.
      As it is written..
      PSALM 82:1
God standeth in congregation of the mighty,he judgeth among the gods.
      PSALM 82:6
I have said,ye are gods, and all of you are the children of the most high.
I myself question to our people believing in not Tattooing the body.
      REVELATION 19:16
Say On his thigh a name is written.
      How is is written?
      A scar?
      A birthmark?
      Or tattooed.
      As in LEVITICUS 19:28
Does say not to make any cuttings or print any marks for the dead.
Self harm to one's body through a loss and grieving explains alot to that scripture.
Even though alot of books say now not to tattoo for the dead.
      How about
      REVELATION 7:3?
What is a seal of our God
      IN their Foreheads?
144,000 of the 12 Tribes will have that seal IN
      Their Foreheads.
      REVELATION 9:4
Say on the lines of those without are to be Hurt.
My Tupuna held on there forehead a symbol that acknowledged the Most High.
I will not believe the White man's belief.

It is very conflicting. Seems our people in the pacific were doing beautifully in alot of ways. However, we did need the revelation of the gospel of Jesus. There were/are things in our practices that were/are demonic. Seems we all could have learned something from each other. But our fallen world has never worked in harmony like that. We also cannot stay stuck in the past and punish people for the sins of the past.

Hateful ignorant comments regarding white people. If it wasn’t for white people (I’m Māori and pakeha) Pacific Islanders wouldn’t want to move to Aotearoa like they do, they would not receive millions of dollars in aid yearly and would not receive medical and military aid in times of need. Māori having much pakeha blood can’t complain as they themselves are pakeha as well as Maori. Ethnicity is important but humanity is more important and God is the most important!

Remember the white man raped and murdered our tupuna.
If it wasn't for the white man..
We would still have our INDEPENDENCE.
Now we struggle to hold our own MANA WHENUA ,
      We are DEPENDANT
      On a white man's rule.
Polynesians are welcome to stay ,live on my WHENUA.
.as for the white man who floods our lands with Esau Edom European settlers can go back to there own lands.
There trickery to confiscate, take, steal our land is going to stop.
We the real people of Aotearoa are waking up
To the BS the white man sells.
      Our tupuna are with us.
We stand in remembrance of them,
We look at the present to create a better future for the generations to come.
      The poor and the needy,
Not the hoha and the greedy.
They are the devil the Bible speaks of.
      I'm not a religious Man.
      I have faith and believe,
      Judgement Day is coming.
Not all Tauiwi are corrupt and greedy,
there are those that stand with with us..
      They are us.
Just keep in mind, not all the wahine during the take over had a choice to seed with the devil.

Now in Aus I go to church and it’s just the elderly and nearly empty. It looks like they don’t want it anymore either.

Jesus was not a 'Christian'. Nor did he preach 'gospel' nor use a 'bible', that came much much later, from a range of authors, each with their version of the 'truth'. Akin to Chinese whispers, what is in the bible is distorted truth. Christianity was used as a weapon to colonise and is not something to be grateful for. Be grateful for God, yes, 100%. I am not at all grateful for palagi using 'God' as a weapon to colonise minds and hearts... 🙏🏼✨💕🌺 It is not for nothing that religion has been referred to as 'opium for the masses'.... It has a similar catatonic effect...

The palagi used religion to colonise hearts and minds and this is not something to be grateful to them for imho. It is akin to thanking your jailor....I thought my previous comment had been removed, but it hasn't... I pointed out that Jesus was not a Christian, nor did he study the Bible? This is a book of 'events' written by many, at different times and long after Jesus was hung on the cross.... Like Chinese whispers, the 'truth' of actual events I believe has been distorted in the telling and is coloured by the perspective of each book's author... ✨🌺
