    Hope enjoyed this week's video.
If Lincoln was President today, what church do you think he would join?
Let me know what you think.

@@52churchesin52weeks Have you heard about the prophet (Wilford Woodruff I think...) in early church history, while in the St. George temple, was visited by Founding Fathers and early presidents who asked him asked why their temple work and baptisms hadn't been done after their sacrifices and work to prepare a free nation where the gospel could be restored. Many of the men and women of that period then had their temple work done for them. It seems the US presidents prior to Lincoln all had that work done for them at that time. Whether Lincoln's work was done since then I don't know, but my guess is by now it has been done and knowing what I do about President Lincoln he was probably very grateful and accepted the work gladly. I like to imagine that he and Mary are rejoicing in the reunion with the children that passed before them and being able to finish raising them, like what was promised to Joseph and Emma Smith in regards to the children they lost early in life.

Served 6 months of my mission in Springfield. That museum experience is POWERFUL. We set up an appointment to meet with someone at the historic state capitol. They didn't show up, but one of the volunteers who was working there pulled us aside and said it was good to see us. Elders in years past had given tours of the capital. She asked if we'd like to do the same. There was a lot to memorize, but it was a great service opportunity. I transferred shortly after that. I heard through the grapevine that it became a beautiful service and teaching opportunity and generated referrals for people all over the world passing through learning of Lincoln.

President Lincoln checked the Book of Mormon out of the Library of Congress for 8 months right before the emancipation proclamation. I have to believe it influenced him greatly, to our great benefit.

I heard that after Lincoln had the Book of Mormon for that time he began to tell the people of America that this was a choice land blessed by God and that as a people they needed to repent to keep being blessed. Before that time he had been of the opinion that the South could continue the practice of slavery but that future states would be free states, but after he seemed to change his opinion about the slavery issue.

Awe, thank you for bringing light to the strength of the Widow again! I love that you see her and see the lessons she shows! It’s stories that aren’t told enough! Being a widow is so terribly hard… but so amazingly blessed at the same time. I have no doubt Mary is incredibly blessed for the life she lived. I would love to hear her stories.

There is a small group of people that I catagorize as "Prophets Outside a Church" who are chosen by God to greatly influence the morals of the world for the better and pivot the course of history. Lincoln is definitely one of them.

One thing is for certain, God had his hand on this country and has given us a responsibility to do His work or else lose our very freedoms. Lincoln and his presidency is fascinating and it's so easy to see God's hand in the forming of the Western world.

I remember the lessons in school of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd. They argued a lot, but it could be that depression hackled them both. This was a good presentation.

That solo was gorgeous! Thank you for including it.
I remember reading several years ago in the National Geographic (I *think*) that Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were born on the same day. They did a comparison of the two men and analyzed which had the greater influence on the world. They figured that Darwin’s theories would have been proposed by others but no one else could have gotten the US Civil War. America was truly blessed to have him!

This is a very good video!!! I’m going to send this to my sons and daughter-in-law, and I’m going to post this on Facebook!!!! You did a lot of work on this and a lot of research, and taught me a lot!!!! I read a book/biography about Mary Todd Lincoln so many years ago before and through the presidency in living in the White House, etc.!!!! She had a lot of challenges, besides, her husband, Abraham!! They had to have been very strong people!!!! And I didn’t know that she had gone to the holy land five years later to walk where Jesus walked!!! or maybe I did, but forgot… Anyway, thank you so very much for this wonderful video!! Love, Sister Gay Michaelis(and brother Duane Michaelis on the other side of the veil for about a year) and family ❤🙏😊👌👍✝️😇✡️

Church visit suggestion: Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, VA. It has a very interesting history beginning in 1674. It continues to have services today. While they were members of the Virginia House of Burgesses, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry attended here while the legislature was in session, as the Capitol was Williamsburg at that time.

Great video! I live just outside of Springfield, IL , and have visited these sites numerous times. I am also an avid reader of Lincoln history and would say he was a believer in deity but not really of organized religion. It is also well documented he was not a big fan of the LDS church or Joseph Smith. When he checked out the BoM he also checked out other religious texts. We can only speculate at this point. Great video!!

Hi David... I've been following your UA-cam channel for a few years... I was actually at the Manti LDS temple open house the day you were there.... that was a fun coincidence.
I'd like to recommend the book the Lincoln Hypothesis by Timothy Ballard. If you're interested in some interesting facts about President Lincoln.. It's a great book that tells a lot about his life and struggles and more.. In this book the author has taken a picture of a library book ( now in the Library of Congress,) showing the date Abraham Lincoln checked out this book from the library. It is The Book of Mormon,. Showing his actual signature. I loved this book and think you might enjoy it as well: Love your channel. Take care.

I went to make a donation and this is what popped up: Nonprofits are not endorsed by UA-cam or Google. Your donation is being made to Network for Good, Inc. (NFG), a US 501(c)(3) donor-advised fund, which takes exclusive legal control of donations, and makes grants within 45-60 days to recommended charities (which on rare occasions may not receive donations - reasons why a charity may not receive donations include: the charity has become legally ineligible to receive donations or is administratively unable to receive donations). By making a donation, you agree that your name, address, and donation amount may be shared with NFG in accordance with their Privacy Policy. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable law. Questions? Learn more.
from reading this I can't tell if the donation is going to St. Judes or the NFG. How can one be assured that the donation is going to the intended recipient?

    • @52churchesin52weeks
      @52churchesin52weeks  2 місяці тому +3

Thank you, I appreciate the gesture! From what I understand, Google/UA-cam can't endorse any charity (I'm guessing it's a potential liability), so the donations are directed to Network For Good like a "charity escrow" - then it's sent to ALSAC who handles the fundraising arm for St. Jude. I hope that helps!

If Lincoln was alive I think I'd be honored to just give him a Book of Mormon, even if he didn't care I think he'd appreciate it - but I didn't know the guy so who knows. Also, Dave, this may be the new best thumbnail fit (behind 9/11 church one)

It's been interesting to see how other churches have "adopted" Lincoln as one of their own. Another congregation I found for this video was called Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation. With his view of "universal salvation," I wonder how he would have viewed the Latter-day Saint view of the celestial kingdom.
