Thanks Liron. IoT devices are a massive problem when so many people open a box, don't read the instructions and think they are great, or even worse, _trust_ someone else to set them up, and when asked, "what password do you want to use?", don't ask how to change it.
@D0TELL I don't know enough systems to be able to answer that honestly my friend, I've gone for a 24v lorry system with 5 cameras and a split screen/touch screen from Ebay, about £280, just a generic run of the mill Chinese one 🙏
Im only on my 2nd video Liron. I will be a regular watcher. Thank you for the way you are delivering this info. Your video breakdowns are great as well.
Easiest and cheapest way to avoid this is to use your own firmware on something like a Raspberry Pi system. I have mine running local small model ai and it works great for object detection.
I avoid a lot of the issues brought up in this video by getting camera systems which are not cloud based and then have the system on an isolated part of my network. Only way to access the camera feeds externally is via a VPN connection to my edge firewall. All cameras are hard wired with video being stored on a local NVR.
I regard the simplest solution to be NOT to connect to a network unless it is absolutely necessary. I connect only for updates and disconnect immediately thereafter. I discovered remote monitoring just eats up data. I could be watching someone break in and do nothing. Calling the police in Namibia for a break in doesn't get any immediate response. So what's the use of remote monitoring?
Don't use wireless cams. Hard-wired only. Don't use any cloud features - local storage only. No remote access, only available via VPN into the home network.
Just a heads up everyone , some criminals are using wifi jammers when doing home invasions. This disables your cell phone , alarm system and cameras if wireless . In my case all my cameras are hard wired via cat6 , but I regret getting rid of my land line
Wi-Fi Jammers will not interfere with your telephone if it's set for Broadband use. It will interfere with connecting to your home network but mine automatically switches to broadband when the home network has a difficulty.
I've always had problems trusting cameras that require a subscription. My problem so far has been finding out about the software and camera's requirements before I purchase. Big ole pain in the tail. Mainly because they seem to hide all that info. All that's really available are reviews and very little from the camera manufacture.
YA, I was checking out some live cams in Canada, because I wanted to see the snowed in areas, and the wilderness, when, all of a sudden I clicked on a link, and Canada's website had peoples live stream videos of peoples in their homes, of which many people were walking around nude. Watch out people, this guy is telling you the truth, I witnessed it.
Most security cameras upload to the cloud. Perhaps search for end-to-end encryption. To be fair, some cloud functions are quite useful, e.g. prevent false alarms, detect faces.
if i put in security cameras wired to a storage device can i wirelessly view what i have stored on the device and have it be secure? can police seize devices if they are looking for a crime in the neighborhood?
I hear lots of bad things about Eufy. If you don't subscribe to their service, and your cameras are all outside, how bad can they be? Your video still goes to the cloud and back, but supposedly doesn't get stored. How do you verify yay or nay?
If you use the guest network option on a home router, make sure the guest network doesn’t have a captive logon portal, because that would prevent the wireless devices from reconnecting.
I think we are past the “free Wi-Fi” days. I never connect to open Wi-Fi. And if someone asks to connect to my disabled guest Wi-Fi , I just let them on my 2nd router so I don’t need to keep changing my main password for my devices.
@@mopar_614That's what I would like to do, as well. Could you please tell me more about it? Which brand of cameras did you get and is the off-site storage cloud based? I'm completely new to this sort of stuff.
putting your cameras on a guest network DOES NOT mean it is on a separate network from your computers! Please do NOT mislead people. In many networking systems, vlan setup is needed and this may or may not be supported on regular routers provided by ISPs nor the APs. Perhaps you can talk about vlans to let more 'newbies' know what is needed etc.
Because of home invasions & previous tenants who kept an extra set of keys, so they can return to the premises & empty the place. In some regions, the law forbids changing the locks & there is a new trend of landlords entitling themselves in people s privacy, while forbidding you to have a dog. The law is on their side because sometimes, dwellings get badly damaged by careless tenants. No cleaning or treatment ever get rid of the smell completely.
It's so depressing. The older folks remember when you could leave the doors unlocked as they went shopping for a few hours. And even left the youngins to fend for themselves if mammy and pappy went to dinner. 😮 Not 'nymore.
Yeah, now we waste countless hours locking, unlocking, researching, purchasing, installing, testing alarm and cam systems. And that doesn’t mention typing passwords all day. The criminal owns us.
@@aspiretobe...4014I would say consumed countless hours doing what you're talking about. It's not a waste when it's necessary as it is today. But your point is well made.
I block internet to my cameras in my firewall and use my firewalls VPN to view my camera feed. Strong Wifi passwords and updated Router firmware is crucial to any security. Nothings fool proof, but you can make it harder for the bad guys if you use WiFi. Best bet is to go with the POE Cameras and run CAT Cable to avoid all the headaches that come with Wifi, as well as blocking them from internet access.
Thank you….i never liked the wifi anyways. And yes I’m using a wired one and have my own sd card in it. I understand what u meant not to subscribe…specially home cameras. 😊
Acording to your thumbnail for this video. Anyone putting a camera in their bathroom is most likely using it to make those videos to upload to OF of TikTok or some other similar website.
Simple, don't connect you camera system to the internet. Keep your system totally isolated. I also don't have wifi at my House, all internet connections to my computers are hardwired ethernet.
So many of my clients used microphoned cameras for pet supervision, others to keep any eye on the house while away. It has it's uses, but you want it like fort knox.
My cameras are my burglar alarm. I turn the 3 of them on when I leave the house and get a notification on my phone. When I get home I get notifications that someone is in the house which is a reminder to turn them off. I refuse to pay for cloud storage,so the videos are stored on micro SD cards in the cameras themselves. I can fetch the videos from the SD card to my phone. It is far less than perfect, but I know that it works. There is nothing special about the cameras. They cost about $25 a piece
Indoor is perfectly fine.but yes hard wire. Some people have kids or pets they want to keep an eye on. Let's not judge and be helpful. If it's not for you, cool.
Mine is hard wired only; Don't trust wifi and the cloud (encrypted or not). (Hard wired: cameras direct to DVR) Look for: Covert, wired only, Pin Hole, etc.
First off, calling them security cameras are misleading! They are observation cameras and nothing else! There are very few criminals that have been apprehended via evidence of a observation camera! They could take off their mask and stare into the camera and still could not be identified! They can tell you when, and how but that's it!
Eh...not sure what you are referring to but we have plenty of cases where home cameras are used as evidence. Businesses install the same cameras as we have in our homes and they use these to terminate employees stealing. So what are you on about?
Oh I forgot the entire world has a set up of just the driveway. Of course. I mean no one has indoor cameras and no one has cameras in their back yard or on the side of their property. Ok everyone you heard this moron: remove your cameras except the driveway. 🤦🤡
the best solution to security cameras, is to get security cameras wired directly to local NVR system, or analog cameras with DVR system
Thanks Liron. IoT devices are a massive problem when so many people open a box, don't read the instructions and think they are great, or even worse, _trust_ someone else to set them up, and when asked, "what password do you want to use?", don't ask how to change it.
Closed DVR system all the way, if it's not on line or receiving a remote signal, it's not hackable.
What brand/model do you recommend?

Can you recommend your favorite wi-fi cam with all the stuff you just explained? Does that even exist?
Give an example of the top 3-5 security systems to help the end user make a decision based on their needs.
Hard wire a system. Connect to your router via an Ethernet cable. Install a VPN to protect your home wifi.

I always check the devices login logs on XVR periodically
Also don't put the camera in your bedroom. That will make it a lot less likely for someone to get material to blackmail you with.

They steal my cameras, they get no footage, it's all being stored on 2 servers, locally and remotely.

A guest network creates a vlan with their own subnet and firewall and routing rules on most modern routers. So not sure what you mean?

Simple, don't connect you camera system to the internet. Keep your system totally isolated. I also don't have wifi at my House, all internet connections to my computers are hardwired ethernet.
Most people want to be able to monitor their cameras when they are away from the house so an Internet connection is required
My neighbor has cameras all over his house.......
And a 19 year old daughter. 🤔
But what if I like being watched?
Use your laptop so we can message you to do poses and stuff.
1. NO cameras in living spaces. 2. NO use of manuf. monitoring apps. 3. NO direct Internet access by cameras.
NO ability to monitor cameras when you are not at home
I don’t even lock the door , if I caught someone in the house looking for money I would willingly help them
why would anyone install a camera inside their home? seems like a real bad idea
Many have indoor cameras especially if they have kids or pets or travel often and want to keep an eye on the home.
So many of my clients used microphoned cameras for pet supervision, others to keep any eye on the house while away. It has it's uses, but you want it like fort knox.
In the US we need protection from the cops in our homes as well as the street.

Because my neighbour broke in to my house and was making himself at home. He was moving my outside cameras.
My cameras are stand alone, not connected to the internet. Safe as.
All that and you have no recommendations??
I would rather teach you what to look out for so that you can shop at whatever price point works for you.
I have a wired system. I also do not have it hooked up to the internet, and I never will.
Don't need those things in my house
Cameras around the outside is fine. Indoor cameras? Absolutely not. Wifi cameras? NO! hardwired only.
