Many years ago a good mate of mine had an Old Timer type trad that was given to him by his father. It had been used many times by him and his dad to castrate bulls and also dogs and cats. I knew him 30 odd years ago so it was an old knife. The main blade was worn to half its original depth. The blades were high carbon and he kept them surgically sharp. Sterilisation was done with either metho, rum or fire ash, depending on what was handy at the time. Anyway, just relating why I still admire traditional compression folders.
I think that is why I now hold them in such high esteem. They dont have anything to prove anymore they are just good and require just enough maintenance that you claim ownership of your knife.thanks for joining in mate.atb paddy👍☺🍀

Thanks for thinking of me and for the offer. I don't mean to seem ungrateful, but it's a little too big and wild for me. I'm boring and my knives reflect that. Thanks again for the offer pad.
I've been getting a few Case knives with blue bone ( trapper, sod buster jr, and a tribal lock. Just ordered a burnt indigo copperlock with the wharncliff blade coming next week). Had a bad one from a farm store and returned it and ordered from a knife dealer, some Blade HQ and Amazon. I love modern flippers but the more I carry the traditionals the more I appreciate their simplicity and functionality. Enjoy the day my friend.
1:30 I think it's that adherence to tradition that makes this special. It's a nostalgia aesthetic. I really like this and might even seriously think of buying a GEC traditional. This is a very special knife.
Gorgeous knife Paddy. I'm a traditional knife freak with wood and bone scales being what I like the most. The #78 is a perfect pocket knife that can handle pretty much all edc tasks and then some. I'm carrying a #48 Improved Trapper a lot these days and it too has performed well. I would love to see even more traditionals being presented/reviewed by reviewers. Great work Paddy, thank you.
I love it my friend.......... Welcome to the traditional world that's why I don't understand why these big fancy pants knife reviewers just review stupid WE knives......... They don't even do any at all traditional knife reviews......... And they call themselves knife people they most of them don't know shit........ I can truly only really name a couple true knife guys that really know what they are talking about......... Love your passion for traditionals I'm glad you found and see how good they are!!!!!!! Have a great day
Hi Paddy , I have a GEC on my wishlist. Sounds like you have a great one. I didn't know Case was having the qc problems but there is one I intend to get.
Great Eastern Cutlery Tidioute # 78 American Jack - 2 Leaves - Elderberry Jigged Bone .... Today I got my knife and it's super wonderful crafts, razor sharp blade, beautiful. perfect fit and finish From now on, it will be old school, I'm really happy but poorer 😊🤙atb.Richard

Well don’t get me wrong apart from the walk and talk and the back spring on mine been a bit on the weak side probably a 4-5 it’s a nice knife but If I was you stick to GEC, I know the blade steel isn’t as Up to date but you must admit they are gorgeous and the build quality is next to none also stay clear of queen cutlery as the quality control isn’t up to much since Bill Howard left to run GEC. I hope that this is helpful to you Paddy atb David. 🙂☘️

paddys potato peelers yeah I agree especially when some companies are funny about returns, I’m glad you mentioned I had my eye on some of there stuff for a while.
For a 'modern' slip joint that will impress you in the same size range, at a reasonable price get a Ruike M11-B, 12C27 steel which is OK and very well made, and a deep carry pocket clip. Price about $24, I have the original SRM version and it's Ruike L11 big brother, I have become a convert to these for EDC, since I got the Ruike a few weeks ago they haven't left my pockets. If you want to spend more, the Enzo PK70 is a work horse and some of Wrights of Sheffield knives like the Senator (£70) are gorgeous. The Case Tru-sharp is about the same as 440A so comparable to Rough Rider and from what I have seen of Case in recent years their fit and finish is not as good as RRs at a fraction of the price. To be fair, I have had Case in the past that were great knives but now they seem to be struggling. The GEC blade is patinating nicely, peeling a few more apples or spuds should make it look even better.
@@paddyspotatopeelers2154 The Senator is right up there on my hit list , a real British classic, I haven't been able to decide on which cover I like best though.
