The disrespect to baba lysaga…use the big brains, play instill energy, patriars seal, a bunch of cards that let you play additional lands, things that let you get your lands back from the yard constantly, and inkmoth/blinkmoth nexus and mishras factory, its one land, that when activated covers all 3 of your permenant types to satisfy baba, and at the peak you can activate 3-4 times a turn draining for 9-12 gaining 9-12 and DRAWING insane amount of cards, i think baba if built correctly by someone with half a brain is an easy a to b commander at the very lowest, but bottom of c? Missed the mark here guys, big time
I’d love to recommend 3/3 Elk’s video on Pharika, God of Affliction! A self mill Constellation themed deck that does it all. You’ll see her in another light I bet. Saying it’s fun would be an understatement
To answer the Meren vs Anything Worse But More Interesting. I think playing against a Meren deck is like beating your head against a brick wall. It's so stupid resilient (gaining solid value even without having Experience counters), either the Meren player will have all the fun or they'll be hated out of the game into having no fun. I latched onto Polukranos as an interactive, resilient, graveyard commander that isn't a complete nightmare to play against. Plus the art is rad, and I like the ability to leverage commander damage as a backup plan.
@@sephyrias883 right i don't understand that you can play him in a really fun way throwing 8-9 good creatures in there to reanimate and just golgari spellslinger from there
You really should try out a "Search for Blex" recursive graveyard deck. It is a lot of fun, and the spell rarely goes back to the command zone if you use it right.
@22:36 that friend who plays Carth the Lion sounds pretty cool, you should have him on the show at some point, might have some cool takes about how everyone is playing commander wrong
01:26:10 That's the idea, but the creatures you can use are very different. For example you can just put Essence of the Wild into the deck and a ton of noncreature token generator cards that will all generate copies of Essence of the Wild. Or you reanimate Pathrazer of Ulamog. It doesn't have to be Necrotic Ooze combo.
Storrev is slept on. Its comparable to Carth the Lion as a super friends deck. In the explanation for Carth you said that your planeswalkers will die but then question the relevancy for Storrev. Getting back an Ugin or other strong planeswalker is great but he also enables repeatable creature removal via Fleshbag Marauder (and others) to keep your planeswalkers safe. He truly shines in the late game when many players are low on gas. You just get back the threats they spent all their resources trying to get rid of.
I use old rustein. he is great value for mill decks. the blood tokens are useful to put creatures from your hand into the grave for later reanimation and draw a new card. It’s also like a double trigger because rustein triggers on etb and your upkeep. The insects make for good sac outlets and the treasures are great value because you can use cards to play lands from graves and you have an extra treasure. He also fly’s under the radar so he won’t be targeted by removal much
There is always solid value in flying under the radar that can often be forgotten about. Having a commander that doesn’t threaten to get out of hand quickly can be rare these days. It’s nice to play a commander that doesn’t tell your opponents “kill me now or lose the game.”
I use him too! and for the exact same reasons u explained, he's quite cheap so you get the value very early in the game, and you can go quite wide with the theme. Its just a shame he doesnt creates pests, or at least black/green 1/1's
My personal golgari commander is shessra. I pretty much chose her cause her showcase art is cool haha. The deck is deathtouch tribal w all the equipment pingers and efficient bite spells. Pretty low power but fun to pilot!
I have an Iname as One Spirit Tribal / Lands deck which can easily compete with what my playgroup defines as "Tier 6-7". (Modern Precons are usually around 4, if that gives you any idea.) Here are the big players of the deck: Road of Return, Netherborn Altar, Campfire and Command Beacon get Iname into your hand. Hour of Promise alongside some other land fetch cards get your Urborg + Coffers online. A small Gitrog Monster package ensures, that land destruction does not remove you from the game. While Urborg is on the battlefield the Enchantment Roots of Life generates a ton of life. Life which you are going to use for Kuro Pitlord, which you cheat into play from your deck using Iname's ETB. But there are other targets aswell. Kodama East extends your turns by letting you cast stuff for free. Gravewaker lets you reanimate Kokusho after it died, repeatedly draining everybody. And you get to this gamestate by running an array of boardwipes because your creatures aren't coming out in the first 4 turns anyway. PS. considering Heartless Summoning has only had one print it is still underpriced AF.
Appreciate the comment. Always cool to see commanders that are worded to not function from the command zone played as it often feels like a chore to get them to work. I'm of the firm belief that you could probably make a good deck with any commander so just because we ranked it lowly doesn't mean your deck is bad, of course. Your deck sounds unique in a very cool way. PS. I have a soft stop in my heart for Heartless Summoning.
Never seen any of the videos before this. Just want to say Hapatra is a great combo commander as well because of her way to combo with -1/-1 counters. She's my favorite commander
I built Mazirek for a Halloween party Commander challenge in my friend group, where the rule was each participant got a "monster" tribe and had to build a deck with at least a strong number of that tribe (not necessarily a tribal deck). I thought I got the short end of the stick with Skeletons. With Mazirek at the helm, it is a disturbingly fast go wide and tall deck, with tons of sac outlets for whatever the situation calls for. I have yet to lose a casual game with it. All this to say I think it's slightly higher than C tier. Otherwise an interesting listen.
That sounds like a lot of fun! I did a similar thing at my college magic club years ago. It wasn't commander, but for a Halloween party I convinced several people to make monster tribal decks, and then I showed up with a mono white "vampire slayer" deck filled with Slayer of the Wickeds and Undead Slayers.
@@edhtakes3604 I'm the resident Vorthos of my playgroup, so I'm usually proposing such thematic evenings. Also, I'm a bit further along, and you hit upon one of my other favorites. While I think B is a fine spot for Sarulf, I think everyone misses a key part of his text box. He only hits nonland permanents. So if you have instant speed sac outlets and a lot of man lands, you can keep the board clear and still have a large force of your own. Definitely not the most fun to play against, but I do like being able to keep most of my board. Or all of it if Ashaya is in play.
Meren of clan nel toth is probably the strongest golgari commander i have destroyed so many decks, meren is the most powerful hands down when ever i play my meren deck people either become really scared of me or they just try to take me out before i win which most of the time i win before that happens
Varolz way to low, garbage list and opinion your gonna draw 15 cards and gain 20 mana on the regular if not infinite stick to rating mono white commanders something simpler than a true commander

Fun fact about Skillbriar, its ability applies to ALL counters on it. This includes things that give it keyword counters.
It also applies if it gets a -1/-1 counter, which can be really rough.
Ooof what about stun counters too?
One of my friends has a joke deck designed to put 100 unique counters on skullbriar
Been waiting for a long time for this haha , this series helped me a lot in deciding what commanders to build
Glad you find it helpful! And just because we ranked something low doesn't mean it can't be cool and fun to play with. I love a good c-tier commander
Haha I tend to go for s and a, and then slowly work my way down
A new edhtakes video!? Finally, some good food! Liked the video all. Have a nice weekend .
Would be interesting to hear you guys’s thoughts on the Mycotyrant!
Glad to see my favorite card in S tier! Beledros Witherbloom is so much fun as an aristocrats deck commander!

Old Stickfingers is my favorite creature card ever! Love this!
They did him dirty tho

Most attractions that give you prizes are acorns cards. There one legal attraction card that gives a prize.
Daaamn. Good to know. Feel a little better about that placement now lol
I got a promo Beledros from my Strix prerelease and from the moment I got her, I decided to make a deck and it has been one of my most fun EDH decks

I suppose there is a lot of freedom to do fun things. Necrotic ooze isn’t my taste so I may have been seeing red a bit.
Psst. Pharika is a Goad commander.

dude the fact sarulf is a better commander on this list than slimefoot is actually wild to me dunno if i agree at all with this list.
I'm looking to when you make the tier lists for three color commanders.
Fun fact: uurg, spawn of funny name _was_ in fact errata'd to literally surveil 1.
Do you guys think that Djeru and Carth would be a great couple.
Can’t wait to see what y’all think of my favorite commander, Meren!
Love these vids. Good job, guys!
Everybody sleeping on most dangerous gamer. It's been a consistent top placer in our edh tournaments. I'd say he's B tier at least.
Where do you think the Mycotyrant would go? Just made it and It seems very strong (also a lot of fun, cards go brrr into the graveyard).
Good stuff seeing them laid out was satisfying
Never seen any of the videos before this. Just want to say Hapatra is a great combo commander as well because of her way to combo with -1/-1 counters. She's my favorite commander
Glad you found the channel! Thanks for watching! Please check out the rest of the lists and let us know what you think.
I approve of my girl hapatra in A tier, I could understand the B tier argument, but that’s my girl!!
Old rutstein is slept on

Yeeeeeeesssssss!
How is deaths whisper higher than grist? Grist is super good with protean hulk and/or tons of insects
2:00 for curiosity: where would you guys draw the line between normal commander and cEDH?
Lathril B tier lol. S tier, most played Golgari commander for a reason.
Funny how Reyhan last of the ''abzan'' is not abzan but golgari
Bait used to be believable
Chatterfang in A seems like a crime. Or maybe you guys haven't played vs the kind of decks I've played vs.
Varolz way to low, garbage list and opinion your gonna draw 15 cards and gain 20 mana on the regular if not infinite stick to rating mono white commanders something simpler than a true commander
No way Lathril is in B tier. She is an S tier commander. Elfball is one of the best strategies in the format.
