What a pleasure! Truly thoughtful interview. I was a white belt at San Diego Aikikai when Janet sensei came after Japan. Lovely aikido. San Diego had a board of advisors and Chiba sensei encouraged beginners (like me) to address concerns to any on the board. San Diego had very good female instructors. Thanks, Ron
Useful answers by Janet Clift with respect to the process of overaging in Aikido. Many greetings to Janet and her dojo from Aikido Dojo Bayreuth, Germany.
Very nice interview. Janet was great. I remember her from years ago at courses in England. Glad she has done so well. Good luck to you with your continued top quality Aikido interviews.
I really enjoyed and learned a lot from Janet Sensei's interview. I have just started a Ki Society dojo at the university where I teach in Brisbane and especially took note of the gender issue she referred to. Also her answer to the issue of whether aikido will someone a better person and her very truthful answer. Keep the great interviews coming.
Great to see Janet doing so well after all these years. I first met her when she was the youngest shodan in England, then at Kanetsuka sensei's dojo, and again at San Diego Aikikai.
its really interesting to have janet clift interview and her point of view about the practice and everything around aikido she look really open minded and she take care about the students i completely agree with her than many men dont take ukemi when they practice with ladies men have to forget their ego :-) im sure that aikido keep people better but every person is different thank to Erard sensei to give us the opportunity to lesson Janet sensei interview long live to aikido ;-)
Janet's aikido seems just the same as it was when she was 14, how strange that it should still be so clearly recognisable so many years later. Of course - even at 14 it was amazing.
Another excellent interview , very rich and informative . I liked when they mentioned the beginners and how they should be treated . Also I liked the fact that you will not feel better in your life only because you practice Aikido and that you should practice seriously ... Keep up the good work Guillaume , you are enriching Aikido history , hope to meet you one day in Hombo dojo :-)
Very nice interview. We definitely need more women teachers like her in aikido and other sports. Having lived in US, there are much fewer population of women doing aikido as well. And even looking at other sports in US, there are more men coaching women’s team in traditional sports like softball, soccer, and basketball.
Excellent wisdom all around, particularly in the teaching aspects and the comments about whether simply practicing techniques makes great character. This would be an excellent person to learn under.
I recognize the lobby of the hotel in Takasaki, where we were staying during IAF congress 2016. I was there with my girlfriend.... Nice. Thank you, mr Erard!
Not the quietest location but we made it work! I had to ask the staff to cut the piano track because I felt that they actually made it louder after we began the interview :)
Haber regresado al entrenamiento de Aikido después de 2 años , es definitivamente lo mejor que pude hacer , excelente vídeo ! , me encanto conocer a esta Sensei de quien no sabia .
They forgot to ask her one important question: have you ever had to use aikido in a real life and death situation? a woman whose traveling all over the world as Janet senei must have had at least one incident where she had to use her art to defend herself. it was still a good interview, very honest and very insiteful. thank you for your cander. sensei
She has just put me off her style of Akido. Not only is she ageist and sexist. If it was a man saying all that she would be screaming sexisim. Double- standards,. I have given advice to both men and women during my martial arts career(which has spanned over thirty years off and on), but never in a patronising or condescending way. Just to be helpful and boost confidence. That's all. What she said herself about the attitude of men was extremely condescending as well as patronising. I thought being helpful and thoughtful to one's fellow students was an essential part of of martial arts training. My originally high estimation of her as a martial artist has really gone down.
I'm so glad I left Aikido for several of the reasons Janet speaks of. Love the honesty. She is well aware of the problems that have polluted aikido.

Indeed, I had the pleasure to train under Deena Drake Sensei in San Diego and I had a wonderful time!

Tolles Interview !!!
Vor allem das Lachen von Janet Clift ist immer wieder ansteckend . Wer einmal mit ihr Trainiert hat , ist begeistert.
Interview with Janet Clift Sensei, 6th Dan Aikikai, Technical Director of the Aikikai of Greece Federation.

Nice one very humble aikidoist, mam. Janet 👍👍💪💪❤️❤️❤️

Very interesting interview, thank you for posting 👍
Really enjoyable interview! Great questions about the gender issue within Aikido as well!
Thanks! It can be a sensitive topic and I tried to let the stakeholders express themselves without infusing too much of my own opinions.
Excellent wisdom all around, particularly in the teaching aspects and the comments about whether simply practicing techniques makes great character.
This would be an excellent person to learn under.
This was so interesting,great.
Nice one Guillaume. I really liked some of the questions and Janet's replies! Specially at 28:35mn...
Thanks Cyril! You two know each other right?
Well will she remember me as it was a long time ago? :o)

Énorme effort. Pour une femme d'atteindre ce niveau. Mon profond respect.
Happy Days Janet!
Очень и очень достойное интервью!

This is great ....... there's a lot of things I learned by watching this. Some of is scary !
I'd like to meet Janet sensei !
wise words ... thank you
I believe that the unknown person is Nobu Arakawa who was a Sensei of mine for a short period in Tampa Florida
Thanks you!
great!
What is ukemi? (I'm only about to start learning aikido)
LukaszVT The art of fall
It comes from the verb, ukeru (受ける) which means to receive. In this sense, it means to recieve someone's technique.
AIKIDO...
SHOU de BOLA !!!
Ótimas Energias...
...... Good Vibes......
P A R A B É N S !!!
The print is very small. Not very discernible.
I love Aikido. It needs new blood, though. The slant towards elders is a huge issue.
nice
A lovely girl 💕
What an inspiring Lady. I cannot believe someone would be so arrogant as to not take ukemi for a woman!
The best in uk is sensei Terry Ezra!!!
Salut Janet tu es superbe Amicalement Jean Pascal

Alan Ruddock - RIP sensei.
Has Alan Ruddock passed? He was a lovely man…very quietly spoken…great stories about O Sensei. Bless him
Yes, few years ago.
I have just looked it up…in 2012. I had no idea..I'm saddened to hear this tonight. Thank you anyway.
