Substance Painter 2021.1 New Feature: Stitch Brushes | Adobe Substance 3D
• Substance Painter 2021...
would be great to get a tutorial on how to build your own dynamic roller brushes
It should be spline-based, like in Zbrush, as it's hard to tweak it, if even possible.
So no more doing it in ZBrush? I likey 😊😊😊😊
Very nice. But ability to draw stitches along the curve would've been even better.
Why has SP not an adjustable Spline curve function for that kind of drawing ?
@Watson Joe Glad I don't have IG
So helpful, thank you!
How do you change the distance between 1st line and the second line of stitching when using double stitch?
Great! Thanks for this:)
Why when I corner/make a curve then the brush paint multiple stitches in one place, mostly where the corner is.
I'm not sure if I just haven't found it, because I've been looking, but I'm trying to project photo textures on to a character, and I need to warp the image so that it fits the model. Something like the liquify filter, and the warp tool in Photoshop. I ended up having to do it in Zbrush then bake the vertex colors with an ID map in Substance. If this isn't possible in Substance, I hope it's added soon as it is a feature that is needed to fit a texture accurately on to a model.
same boat.
Superb Tutorial bro
nice touch thank you
After searching for 10 minutes, I found it: I needed to enable "Follow Path" in the Brush Settings (below "Angle") for this to work...
It is a very nice feature but it is missing quite a lot of options right now. You can't change the color of the stitches later on. They have the same material that the fabric. You can't isolate them with a black mask. You can't change the stitches characteristic later on. It is quite frustrating to 'sew' an entire character and then wondering if it would not look good with a different color or stitch shape and have to do it all over again.
I think you can do most with a tool in in artstation store, it's the 4 bucks one, I have it but ain't a pro at it
sounds like the typical Adobe Marketing.
I guess you could do the stitches basically in black and white and then reference them from the paint layer you're doing them in into the mask of a fill layer, using an Anchor Point. Might need some adjustments with levels to get exactly the result you want but that should do the job. That way, you can adjust the color and even the material after the fact. Theoretically you can even paint them directly into the mask of the fill layer (either right into it or using a paint sublayer) and get the normals using the fill layer's height channel, but I think that's a bit more finnicky and less clean looking/might need some blur or bevel filters to look right. Either way, you got options to adjust the stitches after painting them on!
@@tobiasfrey2793 Adobe Substance 3d made even a tutorial about it
To change the colour you can add an ancor point on the stitch then with a new fill layer you can refernce that ancor point so you can change the colour at anypoint
good job
Anyone know how to properly increase the spacing? I can't seem to find it, you can make the stitches longer but the are still too close together for what i want them for, and changing the brush spacing just ruins the whole stitch.
I want a tool that can draw with Bezier curves
Accurate curves are difficult with the Paint tool when drawing curve stitches
Me too!
@@Substance3D Can you at least confirm that you are working on it? It would be good to all of us not having hopes like we had for past few years.
haha stitches were a pain in the butt cheecks thanks for that :)
Sick, ty
@SubstancebyAdobe where can i download these shoes for some material tests?
So this is a "new" feature contains a lot on artstation marketplace or another places with tools for SP from version 19, gg adobe
@@hideokojima7167 thats right, but i mean it is easyest feature can be maded by any SP user, but Adobe represent it like a important achievement (sorry for english)
Finally
Hi, I have a fabric texture I want to paint stitches on with that tool. The threads then have the same structure as the fabric I paint on. How can I achieve the stitches threads having their individual pattern structure?
Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same issue
I like it
This ones are great, thanks! is there an option to completely remove stitches so can paint seam only?
This focuses purely on Stitches, so not right now. You should be able to pull of seams much easier: any alpha + Roller brush can do it. Making a dynamic seam alpha is also not so hard with gradients in Designer. But we'll keep it in mind, might add seams at a later point.
Hey you can do that with "Brush maker Paint Roller" if you supply your own alpha. It's not super easy to set up, but essentially you set brush settings (spacing, follow path), roller settings (input rotation and slice width) until it looks correct in the preview (and test by painting too). Then save it as a tool preset so you can easily recall it. But it's a good idea for a tutorial!
@@Substance3D that would be great! Thanks.
@@Substance3D The brush isn't updating with direction as I paint the stitch. Is there a setting somewhere to make it follow like it does in the video?
Must required👍
Still using 19. 2 might sub as IAm actually using Designer after buying it on 2017 lol
The issue i am having is i cant get my stitches to replace the material i created below it so it all blends and looks flat. With it being a layer and not a fill layer do i need to do something before i start?
Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue.
why does my stiches not uniform, sometimes at normal lenght, sometimes shorter
substance painter is the bomb.
This looks awesome but in 2022 the stich brush works nothing like how it looks in this video, even with the properties set the same as what you show here. It just keeps painting itself in the wrong direction right on top of itself. Increasing the spacing and setting follow brush improve it a little but it still looks so blurry and low detail compared to this demo.
and how to change color after
The stitches are very blurry when I try to paint on my mesh. I have uv unwrapped them and assigned materials in Blender. What could be the reason?
Texel density is too low. Better UV's, higher resolution maps are the answer. Or split into UV tiles.
:/ I don't have a "shelf" part under the 3D view. Anyone got any info on where I can find this tools in 2022?
wow
hi, how can I reset the stitches brush to factory settings? thanks in advance
Just click it again in the Assets panel.
Since when are stitch brushes new? There were stitch brushes in previous versions right?
They were never included as stock content. We've just built a high quality version to ship with Painter.
@@Substance3D I had stitch brushes for ages in my stock content. Unless I am confusing something. I have put stitches on sport shoes with them which I textured back in 2015. Weird. They are called Stitches 1 to 4 and Stitches small. I am quite certain they have been there, like, forever. And worked well also.
I actually have stitches I designed from ZBrush and they work so well with the roll brush. Wasn't there a feature were you can use an id map to generate a stitch?
@@harrysanders818 you are right, those stitches you mentioned already exist, however this "new" stiches presented here are much more customizable than the old ones.
The old ones were just alpha brushes that you could use either with a paint layer, or as a mask for fill layers. Also they did not connect properly once you started a new stroke. As Substance commented above, this is an improved and updated version that gives more customizability for creating stitches.
I see great use for clothing, shoes (as you are using them) and upholstery detailing.
Sorry for confusion, these are an upgrade over the simple alpha brushes, as they paint a full complex material (with color, roughness, AO), they use roller-brush tech so they bend around corners and don't break apart, and finally they come with way more high quality shapes than any of the previous ones, they hold up to huge resolutions up close, even displacement.
Apologies if that all wasn't clear before.
You guys are amazing you know that right? You’ve created a new industry standard. Props to the devs!
please, please, please !!!!!!!! WARP TOOL, WAAAAAARP TOOOOOLLLLLLL !!!!!!!
NOTHINGI do manages to override the normals or height info on the layers below it. WTF am I doing wrong?!?!?
If you need any advice on that, come on down to the Forum & ask our experts about it. Let’s have a conversation here: [adobe.ly/3PONUJ6] ^Rohan
why my sub haven't this Tools?
Is it some kind of spoiler?
No it's out now ;)
@@Substance3D but livestream will be in 3 hours!
@@Substance3D my launcher hasn't updated :/
So Adobe took over Allegorithmic just to add tools that aren't better than some 5 Dollar packs we can find anywhere else...
I had to use google translate, so might not be right, but we do have Displacement in Viewport, as well as Skin/Subsurface (it's a bit limited however).
