I just started Jan 1, 2020. It's the second time I've done a year off. 2018 was a dry year for me and then I went into 2019 thinking I'd have a drink here or there but ended up drinking way too much again. So here I go again. This time I may stop for good. It doesn't serve a purpose for me anymore. Thanks for this video. I feel a bit more human knowing I'm not alone.
Thank you for your encouragement and sharing. I'm feeling over drinking myself. I was a daily wine drinker and told myself after the holidays to just stick to weekends because I knew it was excessive and I was feeling shame. I feel so good I think I'll want to skip weekends too. My husband drinks a lot (too much) and I know for a decade or more I've been numbing my feelings about that by joining him. But we can't control others. Your comments that your husband lost interest when you stopped drinking as a couple was encouraging. I don't expect that to happen for me. But as wives we are much more influential with our actions than our words so as I continue to live sober, happy and healthy I hope and pray someday he'll want to join me. Until that time, you and I will enjoy the benefits of this decision for ourselves! Thank you for your honesty!
I know this is an old video how’s it going Rachel are you still sober? This video is great I’ve barely had any alcohol for over a year. For me I feel much better without it, my body just can’t handle it anymore and definitely not hangovers since having children! I totally relate to you saying you don’t enjoy nights out without the booze, I was such a party animal until my early thirties - now I much prefer dinner and a couple of drinks with friends it’s about the connection/ catching up - nights out as a non drinker are definitely not how I’d choose to spend my time now!! X
Thank you so much for this video. I am 42 days sober, reading lots of quit lit and watching lots of vids like yours. So wonderful to have it all reinforced online and to see how happy you are and how great life can be. I remember, because I quit for 2 years, but went back for 15 months and realised that I was right back where I started. This time, I'm determined to be rid of booze forever. It doesn't make me feel good anymore. This video was posted over a year ago I've just noticed! Are you still not drinking and how has the second year been?
Jacquie Yeung that’s fabulous! You might see me in the Facebook group! I responded to a few posts today. I’m loving my AF life, it’s amazing! Use the group - they are such a lifeline! X
Good morning....your video was very helpful, I ordered one of the books you recommend it. I have also listened to Sally from one year no beer All of her videos and and I think she is amazing! Congratulations on being an alcohol free, I am almost 30 days free. Suzy from Orlando
hi Rachel , I came across your video 2 days ago . your story resonates so much to mine with alcohol. you have inspired me to quit . 2 days in , either me luck x
Firstly, your hair looks amazing! Secondly, thanks so much for this vid, its brilliant and so inspiring. I downloaded This Naked Mind on my kindle and I'm over halfway through already... it's so interesting. X
Ah I'm so glad you found it helpful! Yes it's a powerful read, completely undoes all the conditioning - so much so the you don't want to drink, well I found that anyway. X
Thanks for this vlog. I'm similar to you, 33 & did the whole drinking young/binge drinking. I've two little ones & hate having a hangover as feel I miss the entire day & it tails into two days for me.. 1st day ill 2nd tired. I'm known as a party animal but also feel done with drink. It's a good mask on a night out as Im very shy but I've recently found I just choose to be the driver. It's a weird thing drink, I'm Scottish & the Scots like a drink. People will actually ask, shocked as to why your not drinking on a night out xx
Laura Meilandt-Jessen hi Laura! It’s taken me about 10 years to actually quit I’d say. From realising it was a ‘problem’ insomuch as I don’t have an off switch like some do! I’ve just never moderated and can’t seem to do it! I’m all or nothing. But for years I thought I would be giving something up that it seemed impossible to give up. When you realise how much you gain when you quit you start to get excited and after a few attempts it finally stuck! Good work for being the driver! I’d just end up leaving the car. I’m better off just bring black and white about it, so glad I don’t drink now! Yes, the hardest part of quitting is other people’s opinion on it and the whole ‘why would you quit?’ angle. It’s so ingrained in our culture, it’s the only drug you have to justify quitting??!! X
Rachel Brady I get the whole body head to toe look 😂 some gave even asked if I'm pregnant!! Eh no I just want to do things without being ill. I've never managed to drink without being sick on the night or really ill the next day xx
Laura Meilandt-Jessen it’s shocking but you just have to expect daft comments and bat them off. I get a lot of ‘er, why would you do that??’ - people think you’ll be judging them or superior or boring - who knows! It’s your life just do what you want! 😘
Thank you for making this video ❤️ side note: you look like you’re in your 20’s 🙂 P.s. unfortunately Annie Grace basically plagiarized Allen Carr’s book The Easy Way. She talks about things in her book that she takes credit for but after reading her book I red Allen Carr’s and learned that they were his ideas. She even stole analogies and only gives Allen Carr credit for the pitcher plant reference. She’s in marketing so she’s a saleswoman.
hi I'm a new follower on your channel! I'm 35 grew up in the same culture 😆 and started to feel controlled by it so at 31 I decided to challenge myself to to sober for october and stoptober i ended up quitting drinking and smoking for nearly 4 years. I now have the odd glass very occasionally but I do not feel the need for it at all. It's so liberating, well done you!! You look amazing 😊😊 xx
Hi Claire - can you tell I am catching up on comments lol! This is really interesting, I think it might be a generational thing?? Good work - maybe I'll go back one day but for now I am too worried it will set me off on unhealthy habits again. X
Love this. I had a dry January and didn't miss booze at all. Drank for the first time yesterday and today my mood is low. Will check out the resources you have posted. Can I just ask, how have your friends been about you quitting booze? It sounds silly but I feel like my friendships will change with friends I usually have a 'good drink' with x
Jen Paddock hi Jen! Great question. It’s one of the biggest challenges but if they love you they’ll support you. Just find different things to do together. Sobriety definitely brings about funny reactions in people, but bear in mind they may have their own situation going on. X
@@paulettemcintosh6455 it's funny, I wrote this comment nearly 3 years ago when I was sober curious. I have now been alcohol free for 2.5 years and yes you are right, of course my health is more important. But they were valid concerns then, and still are now to a certain extent as it has changed my social circle.
I really enjoyed your video...Thank you. You are authentic and I applaud you. I keep trying to find someone that has a story like mine. It's probably not a good thing since I haven't found it yet and that gives/allows me an excuse to drink another day...it's a mind fuck really. I know this and yet I can't commit to any one book or any one program. Think I need someone real to hold my hand and help me choose to not drink as each day passes by. I struggle more and more each year. I'm 35 and a Mother and scared for myself but most I'm scared for my girls bc my choices are harming our lives in a deep mental way that I know too well. I hope somewhere, someone will read this and encourage me to take that initial step. I just can't do it on my own and I'm sorry. Chelsea Taylor
chelsea campbell hi and so sorry it took me ages I didn’t see this till now as I don’t do videos anymore. I hope you’re ok. Try aa? But do consider OYNB as there is a very wide variety of people in there. Many have very extreme situations, big problems and so on. It’s such a supportive arena. No one will judge you. You’re very brave and you’ve taken the first step: admitting you have a problem. X
Seemed impossible, but it’s been over 7 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the KEY difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal, not even within the first 30 days after I actually applied what I talked about. No need for AA meetings or meds either, I just luckily go’ogled Steffon Barkload’s latest, man, wish I had done it sooner.

Yes exactly it's a waste of calories - saying that though it's common to put on weight as you tend to eat more when you quit! Well, I have! X
Well done video...you could be the next Annie grace
Yes.. Annie Grace's book is fantastic
Very well done, sweetie, I'm really proud of you and love you lots xxx
Bridget Cummins thanks mum that means a lot 😘😘😘
