For those who wondered what capers tasted like... 25:21 "...and then I'll use three tablespoons of capers, these little black little wonderfully flavorable things that just taste like capers..."

Love how she cleans up after herself every time. Who do we see do that these days on TV? And such nice exposure to beautiful modern Scandinavian designed pots and vessels. Probably courtesy of the Design Research store in Cambridge.

I got the willies watching her quickly using that mandoline with no protection on her hand. Its one of the most dangerous kitchen gadget there is.

Julia did like her gin. I've read that her all time favorite meal was a good steak, a baked potato and gin. But she was never a heavy drinker or over-eater, and she rarely indulged in desserts. Hence she lived to be 92!

What is the Savoury she added with the herbs? We don’t have anything like that in the UK.

Look for it as Summer Savoury, and in Herbs de Provence blends. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_savory

It’s in the same family as thyme, and thyme can be used instead of it. In this recipe she used 3/4 teaspoon of both thyme and savory, so you could either use 1 and a 1/2 teaspoon of thyme, or if you look online for the herb savory or summer savory, you should find some.

I noticed one thing: she never tasted it for seasoning. When you make them, be sure that you do.

I wouldn't see the onions my eyes would be running so much.

Anyone know why these episodes don't have copyright dates on them.
    Shows on Commercial TV did.
At least the sitcoms and dramas.

@MikeCNW, I recall reading that this channel was done by interns, sweet young things. Apparently, they were not instructed to include or appreciate the need for dates.
      Sad!

Why are we eating the onion roots?

I think Julia was referring to the white part of the onions not the stringy parts that grow in the soil.

If you listen closely, you can hear what sounds like a crewman.
The 1st probably telling Julia to look at the other camera.

Most of these can be found at Trader Joe's. Alternatively, blanche (boil in water for about 2 minutes) smoked/salted bacon to remove the added flavors. YUM!

22:56, that was some quarter *teaspoon* of gin.... guessing that was supposed to be 1/4 cup, should anyone be trying to follow this.

Cringed when she used the mandoline without a guard. Wonderful tool, but don't do that.
