Love your videos and formulations. Thank you!!! Happy Mother's Day! I have a question, I will be making your Creamy Shampoo for Dry Hair and wondering if I replace xanthan gum with guar gum is the % the same?
Thank you! BTMS is cationic and Xanthan Gum is anionic so check the supplier data sheet to check if the gum can be used with BTMS. I made this recipe both with Guar and xanthan gum and although I didn’t do stability tests, after 3 months both were stable and there was no separation at all. Some people say that only some xanthan gums can be compatible with cationic ingredients, I always try both and till now I didn’t have a problem (maybe because of the low percentage of gum in the formula). So you can try make a small batch with the xanthan gum (same %) you have or another option is to skip the gum and add this amount to the BTMS amount (8.6g BTMS for total of 200g product). Happy Mother’s Day!!
Hi! I don’t make diy sunscreen since I can’t be 100% sure the product will have the right protection and i can’t clinical test it to have the certainty of the SPF. (If you want to sell it you can send it to be tested in a laboratory but that’s beyond making it at home for yourself). What I recommend you is to buy a sunscreen base cream from a certified provider, then you can personalized this base cream and still be sure you have a efficient product with the right protection. I saw some suppliers sell sunscreen base cream that you can use as a base and add ingredients to it.
Hi! Thank you for sharing this insightful recipe. I tried making it yesterday. But it separated within 24 hours. Could you please help what can be added to improve stability of the shampoo.
From my experience with BTMS it’s important to use high speed blender / homogenizer to make sure the mixture is fully emulsified. Also once you add the other phases it’s important to mix it well. The wax and Guar gum also help to prevent separation. Which ingredients did you use?
@@diycosmetica Thank you for your quick response. I used the exact same ingredients as yours. Can I fix the already separated batch by any way? Can I blend it again or would adding a bit more Guar gum slurry help? It would be kind of you to suggest if the separation can be fixed
There’s a chance you can remix and it will emulsify, also take into consideration that emulsion can be sensitive to temperature changes, you can try to heat the mixture on low temperature and then mix again. I’m trying to think what in the process was the reason for the emulsion not to be fully emulsified, one reason I can think of is not heating the oil phase enough time, Something it’s tricky with BTMS… another reason is maybe not mixing on high speed for enough time or not mixing immediately once the phases are combined 🤔 Are you using an immersion blender or homogenizer?
So other than everything I wrote you before, make sure all your ingredients are not expired and that they come from a reliable supplier. Good luck with the remixing! Let me know if you succeeded to fully emulsify the product.
For me after 6 months it was still stable. Never tested this product for more than 6 months since I never use a strong enough preservative for more than 6 months maximum. You can make a small batch and check (make sure to use a preservative that will preserve for the period of time you wish your product to last, and don’t forget to adjust the pH and ensure your preservative can function in the final pH of your product).
I think It should be fine. Since coco glucoside has more thick consistency than coco betaine I would use only coco glucoside (so total of 25g coco glucoside for 100g product), and skip the SCI.
Great video! So nice to see you at work!💛

@@diycosmetica I am using a high sheer immersion blender dear

Great as always ❤
Thanks 🙏
BTMS is a cationic emulsifier and SCI is an anionic surfactants, aren't these 2 ingredients incompatible?
That’s what I was thinking too
Super but need percentage of each ingredients

Please share a herbal shampoo recipe and flex seed shampoo recipe

Does this not separate over time ?

What fragrance should be used please guide
I’ve use cosmetic fragrance oil (I prefer fruity fragrance oils), you can use essential oil such as lavender.
