    Bought and installed this lock today including one clicker and connect. A little doubtful because of our 3 points locking system operated by the handle. First impression very positive. Activation via the bluetooth and remote to be investigated in the coming days. Still need another Bold loch for my front-door so looking forward to February 4th.

    I have a lift handle that engages the 3 point catches before locking with the barrell, does the smart lock engage these so you dont have to lift the handle, just want to know when the smart lock self locks, it locks the entire door? Great video by the way.

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому

      Hi Steven
      In your case the smart lock will replace the barrel and key function, you will still have to lift the handle to lock the multi point security. The Bold lock automatically locks after 10 seconds so if you close the door and lift the handle, there is no need to use a key, simply walk away. I hope this helps.

      Best review I've found online. Saw this at a friends house and been looking around for a thorough review. Great vid, but I had a few questions if that's okay. Have you got any thoughts about it 11 months later? How would you deal with other people that might need keys such as builders or a cleaner?

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  Рік тому

      @@FlibbleBeck Good evening, thanks for the question.
      11 months in, Have to say its still impresses me! We have had no issues, we have installed lots of these for our customers and no issues reported.
      Regarding your point of others needing keys such as builders, cleaners etc there are two ways to manage this. If you purchase the lock with the wifi bridge 'Big Button' then you can simply open the lock remotely, meaning, if they called and asked for access on the fly, you can open the door no matter you location. Otherwise, if you simply install the lock as is, ask them to download the app and you can send them a key, you have the ability to manage even element of this virtual key from time of access to expiry. They cannot forward access to anyone else, the digital inscription is amazing.
      If you need any more advice regarding the Bold Lock, please ask. Have a great 2023!
      Kind regards

    Thanks for the video, it was very useful, I've been looking for an RFID smart lock as I was a little concerned about relying on a smartphone to unlock a front door (especially if the door closes behind you with your phone in the house). I suppose this is where the pin part comes into play. Is there a click or can you feel a turning point when you turn the handle so you know you have hit the right number?

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Gavin, thanks for the question.
      Yes, the backup pin works well if you have lost or left your phone elsewhere. When the lock us locked, the outer knob simply turns with no resistance, if you use the app or pin, when correct, the resistant returns (resistance caused by the engaged cylinder) and you can unlock like turning a key. When using the pin you have to use full revolutions in each direction (no resistance or click so a little practice and you soon get the hang of it). I prefer the idea of this as RFID can be temperamental.
      I hope this helps

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +1

      @@sowilliamso2990 Hi, thanks for the question.
      I suppose this depends on the type of handle / door mechanism you have already. If you have no handle, meaning you enter the door by turning the a key, then when you leave you simply shut the door. The bold locks natural state is locked and the knob (handle) on the outside that replaces the keyhole simply turns and does not engage unless the app is used. If you currently use a handle to unlatch the from the outside, you will need to press the internal handle button or use the app on the way out to activate the lock, then turn the external knob to lock it.
      I hope this helps

    Hi, great review.
    My question is, my door needs to turn the lock to lock the door. Otherwise still open. The bolt lock is manual. Does it mean I can lock it because it will think I am adding pin?
    Second question is. Does the big button support HomeKit?
    Thanks

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  Рік тому

      Hi, apologies for the delay in responding.
      It is still possible to use this lock with a manual locking system. It simply means you have to press the know button or app button as you leave, this will engage the lock so the external knob can lock the door like it unlocks when you return. If you think of the app as a temporary on switch, for unlocking or locking and it last for as many seconds as you set.
      I believe it also works with HomeKit although I haven’t tested it. I’ll give it a go and let you know. I hope this helps.

      There is no mechanical key. The pin will work if the battery is dead. the battery does last a very log time (mine over 2 years before first low battery warning). The warning of low battery comes in plenty of time, I left it 3 months before actually changing it! It’s a damn good lock. I hope this helps.

    I do love the idea of these. Be a good idea for when my daughter goes to high school next term so she doesn't have to rely on a physical key.
    The only issue I have is security and if people can steal cars with those signal things surely they can do that with this?

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому

      Hi Tony, thanks for the post. I'm not 100% sure about the tech however, I believe the only time this would be possible is if you had the lock set to 'Auto Activation' from within the app. This sets a radius to auto unlock when it detects a user with the app and permissions allowed to enter. I don't use this feature and to be honest, for every day use I have never found a need. The normal unlock feature within the app would send a split second signal when in close proximity when pressed and unless someone was waiting, very close, I cant see them being able to clone the signal? I know keyless entry is an issue with cars due to the constant signal the key gives off however, the app doesn't pulse a signal unless you press the button. Food for thought though, I will start checking behind my hedges before I activate the unlock from now on ;) ...

      Great question Adam, let me test this and get back to you later today.

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +3

      Ok, so I set this to 'auto activate' in the app which sets a 200m radius from your phones location. I was in the house when I activated it, nothing happens the door remained locked. I left to the house to walk the dog, when I headed back, within 200m my phone informed me I was within the vicinity, when I got within 3m of the front door the unlock auto activated, I approached, turned the handle (knob) and entered. The lock automatically disengaged after the set number of seconds (mine is set at 10) and re-locked. While I was home the lock remained locked.
      So, the auto lock only happens once, when you are more than 200m away it knows to look out for your return, when you return the lock unlocks once and then re-locks until you leave again.
      This is the first time I have really tested this feature, personally I think its a feature that will be used very little! I have now deactivated it as I cant see its benefit, I mean, it would be handy if you had your hands full but still you have to turn the handle (knob) to open the door so... Let me know what you think.
      I hope this helps Adam

    Great video, not sure if it was mentioned but can the door lock be set via the app as an unlocked (inactive status) until the user specifies it to be locked (active status). Reason: I’ve got builders at the house and they keep going through the door all the time (back and forth). I would like to keep it unlocked while they are working and restate back to normal locked state when they leave. Wonder if that’s possible?

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mad Designer. This isn't a function that is available within the app or on the lock itself, the maximum unlock time is 120 seconds. You can give your builders scheduled access between certain hours and on certain days however, they will need to install the app to unlock the door, or you can purchase separate clickers (key fobs) that again can have a schedule associated. It is unfortunate that a unlock state timeframe cannot be set as this could widen Bolds audience. Maybe this will come in an app update soon.

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Olli
      Under normal use, the battery of the Bold Smart Cylinder will last for at least 2 years or 20,000 activations. This boils down to approximately 25 activations per day. If you use the Bold Smart Cylinder a lot more often, you will obviously have to replace the battery more often.
      ***
      Tip: Increase the battery life! Turn off the buzzer to increase the battery life up to 3 months. If you don’t set a PIN code, you will have up to 6 extra months of battery life.
      ***
      The battery status is visible in the Bold App. You will receive a timely notification when the battery needs replacing. The Bold Smart Cylinder requires a CR123A battery, which is readily available at most supermarkets / DIY stores.
      Changing the battery is easy, the main knob with the bold illuminating ring pops out by pushing in the two clips on the back. This can be done without removing the whole cylinder. The battery cover then simply slips off, pop the old one out and fit the new. No need to re-sink, it will work as before.
      I am happy to do a video of this if it helps. I hope this is useful.
      Kind regards

      Hi Fiona,
      Thank you for the question :) The app keeps a log of all activity when the lock is opened using the app or pin from the 'outside' only. Each user you give access to will have their own ID which you will see in your app. From the inside however, there is no log as the action for locking and unlocking is done by turning the large handle with the Bold logo on it. In essence, the big handle (or knob) is simply turning the door lock mechanism so not interacting with the electronic element or app so it doesn't record any activity. Simply put, locking and unlocking from inside is a manual process, from outside you need the app or pin. I hope this helps.

Once this timer has passed, the lock will bleep (make a sound) and it's locked again. The knob on the outside will not engage, it just turns. It will only engage if you use the app or pin to unlock it. So, the app/lock does not need a timer set to lock at a certain time as its natural state is locked. Simply put, the app and pin are for unlocking, it has no 'lock' feature.
      Now, from the inside, if you cylinder or door mechanism has a further deadlock, the internal larger knob can be turned further to engage dead locks. This can also be done from outside by activating the unlock button in the app, but turning the external knob in the lock direction to set a deadlock. It may be worth me doing another video to show how this works.
      I hope this helps

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Alex
      The Bold Clicker simply removes the need to use the app. Once paired with your lock through the app, the clicker becomes a unlock button your can put on your keyring. Click it, unlock it for the set number of seconds while you turn the handle to enter. Handy to give to people who need access and may not always carry their phone or, users who are not tech savvy and don't want to be opening apps. I hope this helps.

    Have you found any other smart locks that work with this same style of lock?

      Hi John,
      There are lot of locks on the market that work similar to the Bold Smart Lock however, we haven't tested them all. We found the Bold lock to be very functional, the app is very intuitive and easy to use, the security level is super high and with the addition of the wireless bridge for complete remote control with lock is easily one of the best.
      We will be reviewing some new locks coming to market early this year, keep an eye on our channel. Take care.

    Bold says the lock cant be locked or unlocked via WiFi. The bridge is mainly for programming conditions based on lock states and not to ie auto unlock when you get home etc

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  Рік тому

      Hi Mulle,
      I think you may have misunderstood. The bold smart lock cannot be activated over wifi WITHOUT the bridge! I can 100% guarantee that the 'Bold Connect' (Bridge/big button) can and does activate the lock over wifi remotely, we use this function at our workshop office daily and home when necessary. Otherwise, what would be the point of this bridge!?!
      I hope this helps

    Hello
    I bought one of these after watching your video. Then I realised one big flaw
    Surely a competent thief would just break the window , put his hand through or use a crook and press the bold button. In they go.
    I contacted Bold and he told me to put a cover over it. WTF
    You actually don't have to press the button. Just turn it. Most doors have glass in but you could just as easy use an adjacent window. Sending mine back I think

    • @ballinteriors
      @ballinteriors  Рік тому

      Yes, as with all digital locks, there are risks. The Yale locks are worse... The door we fitted it too, it isn't possible to reach from the side panel. Not perfect for everyone... And, on another note, we didn't get paid or gain any promotion from Bold for this video, it is purely an opinion piece! In fact BOLD haven't once thanked us for it... I mean, their comment 'put a cover on it' says it all...

      @@ballinteriors I'm sure you could break your side panel and use a rod to reach. It's a massive flaw in my opinion and a serious downgrade on security for convenience. But thank you for the reply and although not a great product it was a very good video.

      I'm intrigued as to why you think this is fitted incorrectly?!? If the mechanism with the central button was outside, 1: It is not water resistant. 2: Anyone would be able to get in by pressing the large central button which activates the lock/unlock... The silver knob is the water resistant element and purposely has no technical element so can not be tampered with. I hope this helps you understand, Please don't just to your own conclusions if you don't understand it, ask questions first so you don't make yourself look silly...

    • @albertusanoniem9043
      @albertusanoniem9043 Рік тому

      @@ballinteriors hello! Are you sure the central button isnt water resistant? Because I believe that Bold says the whole lock is water resistant, which would also mean the central button is. The thing is that I want to buy a second one for the outside fence, which the Bold will be covered but not 100% obviously because it is outside. Very happy with my first Bold for the front door, and the clickers are very handy too, for your parents or neighbours for example that dont have/want/know the app!

      @@albertusanoniem9043 Hi Albertus. The Bold Smart lock 'Big Knob' is not water resistant, the external smaller knob having no electrons is. So, as long as the big knob is indoors it's fine. I have thought about testing this outdoors myself however, the following was taken from the BOLD website FAQs "The inner knob (big knob) doesn’t like to withstand different weather types. Because that’s where the electronics are located. So, please place the Bold Smart Lock with the big knob indoors. The small knob can be placed outdoors!". I hope this helps answer your question. Bold have informed me that some existing new products are due to be launched in 23 so fingers crossed for an IP65 rated lock!
