I was just remembering how my Dad tried to teach me to heel/toe in his 93 Civic. I was 16 and just got my learner's a couple days before. I just could not get it down after a few tries BECAUSE IT WAS MY FIRST DAY EVER DRIVING A STICK and he was legit embarrassed that I was his child. Car Dads...
Same, Ive gotten close to attempting it a couple times but im usually afraid im going to give way too much brake and either damage my car or cause an accident
Yeah, I just don’t do it cuz I don’t want to accidentally brake check someone. I lightly brake while in gear, get to the low end of my current gear, then downshift (while still light braking), to the previous gear. Car doesn’t have to do much to match the revs, and I don’t risk accidentally brake checking someone cuz my brake petal is sensitive.
That's because heel-toe is a racing technique. In racing, you HAVE to brake hard. You also have to shift. When you heel toe, you can brake hard and rev match
Ok, you blip it’s like I do; with the right half of your foot, not twisting your foot so the actual heel presses the gas. I canNOT do that without hurting myself. I feel better now.
toe on the brake and heel under the gas pedal, then move your knee to the side without moving anything else and the side of your foot should touch the gas, thats the "right" way.... i havent actually done it because I'm short and have small feet but i hope i could figure it out
Not all cars work well with the “heal toe” in bmw’s & Porsche’s I know forsure (in North America anyways) design it so the break is at the optimal spot to “big toe, little toe” sorta thing. I was trying to figure out how I could do a proper heal toe by twisting my foot in my e36 and that’s just not possible, first the gas pedal is a ground pedal so only the top of it sits nearly flush with the break pedal. While using my big toe on the break & rolling my foot hard on the gas pedal it seems to not give too much breaking force while still letting me rev it up to 4K. I’m not confident heal toe down shifting yet frankly. I’m still trying to get my regular down shifts much better. Don’t help I got the wrong shift lever installed, it’s too long of a throw (longer than stock) causing the shift nob to be past the edge of the shift boot. The throws are ridiculously long it’s fucking up my timings (4inch throw between 1st n 2nd) also it won’t sit centre, it sits just off to the right a bit. In my e36 the middle should be right between 1st n 3rd or 2nd n 4th. You can’t just push forward or back and it go into any gear, it’s meant to be moved slightly to either side to get into the respective gears, yet mine sits nearly flush with the 3rd n 4th gear. All I gotta do to get into 3rd or 4th is push it forward or pull it back. Can’t wait for my eBay short shifter to get in (it’s been well reviewed by loads of e36 owners)
Heel toe is only really used in cars where the gas and brake are too far apart. In most cars you’re gonna have the best stability and accuracy by using the left and right sides of your foot. The BRZ stock has a weird pedal spacing, it’s still doable to do it optimally but unaware learners will try to “heel toe”. I installed a pedal kit for mine that extends the left side of the gas which lets me roll off the brake easily
I’ve had a manual GTI for a year now and will say I definitely do not bother with this, but I probably should try… I always blip the throttle as I’m letting out the clutch though, the jerk when you don’t is really unpleasant.
I have a 2012 Scion tc, and the pedals are not designed for heel toe. The gas is raised higher than the brake and my foot is not wide enough to use the left and right side of it to reach both brake and gas. Wish I knew about heel toe before getting it. I would’ve gotten a similarly priced vehicle with better pedal placement. And I don’t have the willingness to replace the pedals.
My 84 celica doesn't really allow it due to the placement of the brake pedal and accelerator. Gas pedal is depressed in more than the clutch or brake, so it pretty impossible to downshift for me, especially not being that tall. So I just drop gears regularly
God getting it right is almost mission impossible. Either you slow down too much, brake sharply or get it right but you can't figure out how. Anyone any tips? My throttle pedal is top mounted
This will cause your car to jerk, whip lash motion, your car doesn’t like it and your neck wont either. You have to match the RPMs to the appropriate gear you’re downshifting into.
Or you can flick the left paddle shifter once using your left hand's middle finger.... (every Modern Supercar, sports sedan, sports hatch, lol even motorcycles now come with DCT) ..... For people born in households that have never had a manual, its okay to never know what heel/toe feels like LOL (ME)
2600 rpms in 3rd gear?!?! Suckin out all your gas aren’t u? I thought rpms are supposed to be 1500-2000 for any given gear to function appropriately 🤷🏻♂️
Where did you learn that? That doesn't make any sense. All gears can function appropriately at all the available engine revs, from idle to redline, within reason. It's up to you to choose what speed you want the engine to be at. Lower revs for better fuel economy (and more quiet operation) at the expense of less torque and higher revs for the opposite. That's why you see spirited driving like hard acceleration or fast driving through twisty roads being done at high revs and highway driving at a constant speed through mostly straight roads being done at low revs.

I found heeltoe hard because the brake is sensitive, braking and trying to heeltoe, I end up braking more than intended
Oh my saab 93 or 95 can’t remember had a pretty heavy brake so it was no issue in that one 😄

@@KiddBuu_same with me. On my new opel mokka my brake is also so sensitive that im not doing this method. Im only trying to rev match downshifting.

No better feeling than nailing a perfect heel toe downshift or even just a simple blip throttle downshift
I saw what you did there, because...
Always wondered what this was since I heard you mention it in a KBB review. Another reason why I love you, Micah: You always explain things!
Love what you did with the ending!
It's funny the first two times.
I believe the right way to do it is releasing the clutch simultaneously with the blip not clutch bleep.

Brake, clutch, blip, let off clutch* …for newbies if they didnt catch it
Yeah he did it right but said it wrong lol
Nobody ever mentions the importance of blending the clutch around the bite point while releasing the clutch.

you can also downshift at the correct time
Nice #short!😸

I want to learn it but it seems difficult to learn to modulate the brake and gas at the same time
I like your toyota 86
I mean if you don’t do it you can also use downshifting for slowing down
Am I the only one watching this for vr sim racing tips?? 😂 😭
I just downshift the moment I know the revs will be proper.
Here most cars have manuals.
I learned this on my 1996 Accord. Still do it to this day.
God getting it right is almost mission impossible. Either you slow down too much, brake sharply or get it right but you can't figure out how. Anyone any tips? My throttle pedal is top mounted
the ending just makes me depressed
Same :(
I saw no heel/toe in this video... I saw toe/toe.
Nah bruh he actually used a bit of trail braking
Cool but you speak so fast!
Gasssss 🎉
can't you just hold the brake and downshift if you want to decelerate? I'm asking cus I'm new to car's world
This will cause your car to jerk, whip lash motion, your car doesn’t like it and your neck wont either. You have to match the RPMs to the appropriate gear you’re downshifting into.
You don't need to do this with modern manual transmissions since most of them have auto rev matching.
Rev matching helps also
Are you clutching when doing the blip ?
Based on the video you blip first then you clutch
In other words this is rev matching
Well, rev matching while also braking.
And this car will be blown away because it has a weak engine!
none of that matters BECAUSE…
IMT.
Manual transition rare these days?!? In which world?
America

Useless technique. Just brake and lower gear.
You've never driven a manual transmission car on a racetrack have you?
Not on a racetrack. Is it useless on the street tough?
@@El_Tuercas If you drive sportily or simply want less wear and tear on your car’s driveline, using heel/toe on the streets isn’t useless.
Because You Should Just Buy An Automatic

It greatly depends on the car in question and it's gearing. In my 370z, 1500-2000RPM is close to where you're at at the start of a gear.
