Wow- what good fortune you had to meet & know this legendary figure from WW2. I have also heard of his kindness but carefree lifestyle as a young man- chiefly his fearlessness & nerves of steel that no doubt served him as a u-boat captain. Thanks so much for sharing this!
His step-daughter was my German teacher in high school in the early 1980’s. When the annual foreign language field trips traveled to Europe, the German students visited him at his home. Their group photo was in our annual that year.
@@zymelin21US navy participated the war during summer and autumn 41 in North Atlantic by giving brits ships and more directly by escorting british convoys. By doing that, they presented themselves as a legitimate target. Roosevelt helped Britain any way he could (lend&lease etc), circumvented the neutrality rules by doing that and was eager to join the war, but could not do that before the Pearl took place.
He sunk my grandfather Matthew Mullin out lived my father Henry Mullin done well too have lived a long life as submariners died young just like the sailors they sent to a watery grave

Congrats Steven. Love your post !
Topp did not sink hms Barham, which was pictured 90 degrees capsized in the introduction section.
Nope, v. Tiesenhausen did , but it's a ship nevertheless and I used the photo for effect, since I'm not a professional video producer
he did however sink USS Reuben James, on the 30/31 october 1941. The date is important.
