I've sold all these brands and owned them as well. My picks would be based on resale and reliability in this order:
    1. Toyota Corolla
    2. Honda Civic
    3. Mazda 3

Thanks. This is another very important advisory that is very note worthy for any serious car buyer, not smitten by marketing puffery or promises of durability written in the sand.

My old dealership in WA State told me that they haven't had one case yet. 2012 Civics had issues, but early CVTs (2002)had some, but we're talking 20 yrs. Toyota Rav's today have more issues. CX-30 2021 base model owner here. What an incredible vehicle. Love there's no CVT transmission. 2.5 means I won't be burning insane amounts of gas while still having enough power to climb mountains... literally. I live in Puerto Rico and I'm very impressed with the insane amount of torque it has, being able to climb Skyrim like vertical mountain even from a full stop. It's been my daily driver ever since and I have no complaints. Daily driver while under conditions most of these vehicles aren't meant for since other roads in the world are far better and much more flat.

Great size, great fuel economy, super long warranties, and they no longer use the recalled engines. I was able to get the SEL at around $25k after markup, taxes, and fees. I test drove a Corolla, Mazda 3, and Impreza and all of those cars were too small for me personally and most were more expensive after markups.

My 2015 mazda 3 had it's biggest repair job this year. I spent $5000 for
spark plug replacement all belt replacements.

I had corrosion on the strut mounts so all of them had to be replaced.
I had some body repairs front grill was replaced side mirror and my driverside turn signal bulb had to be replaced.
Over all the car still runs well. It should run for another 5 years. hopefully by then I'll be in a new car. Not gonna lie but the dealer gave me a new 2023 rental that may make me want a new car soon.

As someone who sold both Hyundai and Nissan for 6 years, I can attest to the issues noted in this video. I would Nissans in the service bays getting new transmissions everyday. Hyundai suffers from a lack of quality control and the fact that they try to do everything themselves. They would be better outsourcing some components of there cars to other manufacturers.

    • @tommurphy4307
      @tommurphy4307 2 роки тому

nissans are very popular and young people drive them. that having been said, you WILL see them every day in a busy dealer service drive with CVT trans problems. the vast majority of the calls become customer-pay repairs because the owners neglected to service them at 60K and on top of that, abuse them while driving. selling nissans and working inside the back door are two very different things. we fix them and try to stock all the parts we need every day. BTW, the vast majority of CVT repairs in our shop are repairs- not 'new transmissions'- its actually difficult to ruin the entire transmission without physically wrecking the car. hyundai has plenty of backing from mitsubishi, LTD. and still gets technical info, parts, and sub-assemblies from them. hyundai had to break free from mitsubishi motors in 1987 and i think they did a commendable job while backing up their products, and it was definitely a rough go for a few years.

Shame that the 1.5T Honda has gotten so expensive and that the availability with the manual transmission is only on the Si or fully loaded model. It's like $29,000. I think the Mazda 3 is the best because of no CVT and a more torquey 2.5L than the 2.0s and can be had for easily under $25,000 USD. The Corolla is better in a couple aspects. If you want a manual transmission the Corolla Hatchback has a really good system and an engine that will rev out. Also, the Corolla Sedan has a hybrid model for about $25,000 for those that are most concerned with operating costs. I think the 2.5L Mazda 3 and CX30 strikes the best middle ground.

Get the Elantra, but just avoid the Turbo engine. Problem solved. Fit and finish on the Elantra is now superior to the Corolla. The Civic used to be the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch by far but the current generation is the dowdiest looking.

There is NO CAR sold in the US for UNDER $25,000 delivered. None. It's like a unicorn, it's a mythological creature! According to Tulsa, OK DEALERS on 7/19/2022, the CHEAPEST car available (maybe) is the Chevy Aveo 2 dr. special order ONLY at $26,735.63 delivered (looks like the Bolt). Then the Nissan NSX 2DR 1.5L sedan (when available) at $26,755.00 delivered. June 10th, ALL cars/trucks had a MAJOR price increase (DUH!). About 8% industry wide. The "$28,000 Chevy Bolt EV" is INCLUDING the $20,000 Federal Tax "incentive" you may or may not qualify for or receive any or all of. Less than 12% of Americans will receive ALL $20,000 of it-MOST will get less than $2000 and MANY won't get a cent-like all tax "incentives" or credits.

I am considering a base model Subaru Legacy. The base price is $24,395. Mazda no longer sells the CX3 in the USA. Toyota no longer puts the 1.8 liter engine in Corollas. My niece had the engine in her Hyundai seize while driving on the highway; the engine had to be replaced. Is the base engine in Honda Civics still the 2.0? The Accord's base engine is the turbocharged 1.5 liter.

IMHO, and I know a fair amount about cars, you have given shoppers very good advice. For longevity and reliability, I would still avoid CVTs in general. If you prioritize not only long term reliability but inexpensive routine maintenance and you know how to operate a clutch and manual trans. correctly, clearly they are the best choices. But, if you do a lot of city driving, they are certainly more annoying to use and clutch wear is accelerated to the point where less maintenance might be exchanged for early clutch replacement.

you are wrong- you can't beat a CVT for serious city or rush-hour bumper-to-bumper driving..... i have a late-model sentra with CVT, and a 72 510 with manual transmission, and i dread being caught in thick traffic in my 510 just because i know that kind of driving becomes effortless with no clutching/shifting. plus my sentra has the cool breezes... i have done my first CVT service at 60K and have about 66K now. i have an extended driveline warranty but don't think i'll be needing it- i get my ya-ya's in my 510....
