      You kind of have to decide whether you train endurance or speed with your legs. Since speed is the more useful skill in the decathlon, since you need it in high jump, pole vault, sprint, hurdles, long jump and even the javelin, endurance training falls out short for many athletes

      Well he set like 4 PBs in Rio before this; dude has great coaching and is made for handling pressure.

      But as you get faster, that 1500 time falls too. It is a function of your VO2max and lactate threshold, both of which many decathletes hone over several years, even with limited hours per week dedicated to it.
      Simplest way to think of it is, say you can do 85% speed for the 1500. Well, your overall speed gets better, so does that 85%.....
      But it can also be improved in another way: make it 86%, then 86.5%, etc.
      And for the ones on top, like Eaton and him, they really try to be great at all 10 to get their name in the history books.
      Just my 2 cents.

    • @kpk33x
      @kpk33x 4 роки тому

      Its a balance. If he goes for more speed and power for sprints and throws, his 1500 time will suffer. If he tries to bring his 1500 time down from 4:35 to 4:25 or 4:20 he will lose some sharpness. Decathlon coaches will tell him to play to his strengths. He could gain 100 points on his 1500m but probably puts 400 to 500 points at risk in his strengths

      @richardgallimore5976 5 років тому +9

      You compete in 10 different track & field events over the course of two days. There is a large scoring table saying how many points each performance is. For example if you ran 100m at Usain Bolt's speed of 9.58, you would get 12.02 points (if this website I'm using is correct). If you ran it in 11.00 seconds you would get 861 points. It tests overall athleticism as you have to be able to sprint, do middle distance, jump, throw, everything. Of course a Decathlete won't throw quite as far as a world class thrower because a world class thrower trains their body only for that event. If you're a huge throwing guy, your high jump is going to suck, a decathlete must pretty much be good at everything.

    If any man can be like Ashton in sprints and long jumps but throw like Kévin, THAT record will last decades....
    Though it seems maybe Kévin himself may be that man; he is closing in on Ashton's PBs in the
    110H (13.55 vs 13.35)
    HJ (2.09 vs 2.11)
    1500 (4:18 vs 4:14)
    His 100, 400 & LJ have a ways to go:
    100 (10.50 vs 10.21)
    400 (48.26 vs 45.00)
    LJ (7.80 vs 8.23)
    In the 3 throws, he kills Eaton's PBs & their PV PBs are virtually identical.
    Also of note, I believe he dropped his 100m PB in Doha recently from 10.55 to 10.50, so it seems his 100 & LJ will keep improving for Tokyo(2020), Eugene (2021) & maybe even Budapest (2023).
    Very inspiring progression he's been having since finishing 15th in 2012 (age 20) &...
    ...4th in 2013 (age 21)
    ....then a close silver medal in 2016 (age 24).
    ...then breaking Eaton's WR by 81 points this year (age 27).
    He got hurt before IAAF 2015 and during IAAF 2019, so it would be nice to see him win in Tokyo and Eugene. I would love to see what you guys guns move up but my money's on him next year and beyond, especially if that 100m PB keeps dropping.
    I bet it will based on his HJ, 60m & 60mH ability.
    Also, he'll probably break Eaton's indoor heptathlon record too.

      He won’t get near Eaton’s 1500m or even his own pb in the 1500m he set that at least 5 years ago I think, it’s likely he’s taking a different strategy nowadays and realised his advantage in the throws is worth losing points in the 1500

      Are you ignorant? France is at the crossroads of all Western European civilizations so we have pretty much all Western European phenotypes and cultures within our natural frontiers. We are pale, swarthy, red-haired, black, mixed and everythibg in between.

    He's decent but if I carried on athletics I'm pretty sure I'd beat this. My throws would eclipse his pansy ones. Nice long jump, pole vault and hurdles though.

      Tom Walters sorry buddy but no, you wouldn’t beat him, if it were easy he would not have set a world record because somebody else there would have

    Description should be corrected,
    110m Hurdles: 13.75 sec = 1101 points.
    Is too many points. 13.75 is worth 1007

      Pas seulement au décathlon! Dans toutes les épreuves de demi-fond et de fond, l'utilisation de "lièvres" est une pratique couramment admise dans les tentatives de records. Par ailleurs, si le décathlon est un sport de touriste, je n'ose pas vous demander à quel niveau vous mettez la pétanque!
