My ultimate wishlist for shoot interviews: Grant Morrison, John Holmstrom, Raymond Pettibon, Dan Clowes, Simon Hanselmann & Karen Berger!
Excited to Adrian’s interview with y’all. Pride of Berkeley/Bay Area!!
I'm so glad you interviewed Adrian Tomine. He and Seth did a really interesting chat the other week when D&Q launched the book. I also enjoy hearing an artist on your channel who is relatively humble, he's like the Anti-Kayfabe in that he's not bigging himself up. Big up the Drawn And Quarterly crew!
I just discovered your UA-cam channel and this is one of the best cartoonist interviews I've seen -- great job. I enjoyed the shout outs to Factsheet Five, the Xeric Grant (I'm a 1995 Xeric recipient), and small press zine publishing. I started out that way as well, printing my zines at copy shops, sending them to other cartoonists and zines, and selling them through the mail. I somehow missed this latest release by Adrian and have now ordered a copy!
This was fun- felt like I was eavesdropping a cartoonist conversation instead of just watching an interview. Great work to you all!
His new book is amazing, this interview was amazing, as always, thanks again Jim and Ed!!
Adrian's entire Zoom aesthetics is a panel of one of his comics. Wild.
Great talk, glad to catch up with this one a year later. Adrian is a talent, but also a man with the focus and diligence to bring it all home.
Thank you for asking Adrian about his work in publishing and lettering Yoshihiro Tatsumi's comics.
Scenes from an Impending Marriage is a true story about my aunt and him getting together.
Great interview. Continuing the run of great guest and wonderful conversation. Thanks guys, I thoroughly enjoyed.
My favourite interview so far! Well done and thanks!
Thanks for this. I just blasted through his book...it's great! Funny and also very moving. The comics world is not much different from the nasty "real" world at times. Those who can do grind it out, those that can't accuse them of being derivative. Anyway keep up the great shows. Time to interview Julie Doucet and check out the other type of art she now produces. Or at least review the Plotte double volume. I know it's a lot of work but your show is the best!
Oh, right on time! Just read his book! ✨
Another superb interview, and another motivation to reread Tomine’s work. Thank you!
Excellent. And thank you for saying his name out loud! Every time he spelled out someone mispronouncing his name in the book, I was eagerly awaiting the phonetic spelling of the correct pronunciation, and when it didn't happen by the end of it I was ready to just never say his name out loud!
You guys have been killing with these shoot interviews recently :D
Seeks like an amazing dude! Very cool, very nice! His art isnt really my sort of thing, but maybe I'll try one his books out at the library
Man I was about to suggest Adrian Tomine esp with his new book out. Thanks for doing this one!
This was such a great interview! Thank you both for helping make the vast world of comics a more inviting and accessible place. I would love to see an interview with Nick Drnaso, or John Porcellino in the future if you're ever able to!
