Holy shit! Amazing.
OH hi there Mr tropes - amazing indeed
Agreed! This was a superb conversation- Kayfabe crew does it again!
My absolute hero. Groo is the one comic consistent in my life from childhood, the best pre-bedtime reading to give you good dreams. Met him twice at cons, the main artist I sought out, the one I was able his work on to pass on to my kids and they actually like. Sergio is the greatest.
What an amazing, heart-warming interview. This made my day. So many fantastic stories, but my favorite moment was Jim and Ed saying "Joe Kubert" in unison.
Someone needs to do the Ed/Jimmy in Union super cut
I wish this interview was 12 hours long. Thank you Ed, Jim and Sergio.
Man, Sergio is an absolute treasure. Thank you guys for landing the interview and please pass along the thanks of the fans to him for taking the time to sit down for this interview with you. The guy is 84 and is still full of passion and joy for cartooning. Incredible.
Sergio is an absolute delight of a human being and I could listen to him for hours. The second I saw Groo was the second I fell back in love with comics again after thinking that Superheroes were stupid (I then got into comix proper with Crumb and Shelton). And he was one of the BIGGEST influences on one of my favourite Mangaka with Monkey Punch. Jim, Ed? Thank you so much for this.
Such a modest, unassuming guy. Man Sergio we could watch you for hours' more time. Sergio Aragones has been a hero of mine since I was a kid in the 70's & I still buy everything I can get my hands on w/his art work in it. The man is a Giant of Cartooning in my book. Long may you live, Sergio.
Who's better than Sergio? Nobody, that's who!
Dude, your interview with Evanier was top notch. Would love to have you also interview Sergio.
I have to fight back tears listening to Sergio talking. I’ve never heard such pure joy in my life.
Sergio is looking great! I love Groo, and my kids love Groo too.
I wish that he would animate the comics. His stories and characters are comedy gold!
What an incredible interview to get! Not just a singular illustrator and charming storyteller (Look at the Groo volume where two towns escalate to a war over the industrial revolution- structurally incredible) but also an incredibly influential link in the evolutionary chain of the medium. Truly special, thanks dudes.
You guys ....I don't know how you do it........you constantly open doors back up to memories of my childhood. Thank you. Groo and Jodorowsky..........I love being a nerd.
One of my favorite interviews ever! Sergio is such a great and spirited man, awesome makes me want to keep drawing and shoot to be like him one day!
Thank you guys. Sergio just added 10 years to my life force.
Fujio, Jodorowsky, Gaines... incredible interview. Sergio is such an amazing storyteller.
This is my favorite shoot interview so far he was the first cartoonist i knew by name, because he was latin and his name was the only one i could pronounce from mad magazine. what a great guy!
Ed, Jim, la están reventando con todas estas entrevistas ("you're killing it with all these interviews"). The great Sergio Aragonés! Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.
I've been staring at this man's work since I was 12. I'm from the Philippines so we didn't know about Mad magazine that much but I used to dig thru magazine bins at book sales because I loved reading his tiny comics that littered the gutters between the frames of the whole magazine. Spies vs Sabs page spreads were a feast to look at. I wish I had more of his work. I'm a cartoonist now as well partly thanks to Sergio Aragones.
What a class act! When I was a little kid , Sergio signed my program for comic con and drew me a cartoon. He’s a very nice guy. I also had lunch with Jack Kirby and had my Superman re-print signed by Joe Shuster. What a weekend that was!
Digging it, digging it. Last week an animation legend, today Aragones. Good God, as always you guys are knocking it out of the park. I got a supreme feeling that Stan Sakai will be showing up one day, and who knows maybe Frank Miller will be the first shoot of 2022.
Sergio is such a genuine article. I've been collecting Groo since I was 10. 30 years ago. It is such a joy discovering even more works of Sergio and collecting. Such a big fan. Thank you for making this video!
Sweet, I used to buy mad magazine specifically for the Sergio art. Then I found Groo and a superhero comic he made for a short time as well.
Mighty Magnor! Love that series
Your vid’s make my day!
Edit: I happened to watch the Geof Darrow video the other day, both him and Sergio seem like genuine, decent human beings.
This was the best shoot to date! Thank you so much Jim and Ed, and thank you Sergio!
El maestro!! Amazing cartoonist, one of my two favourites of all time. I was lucky enough to not only meet him a few years ago but also get to work with him. An incredible honour!
That was so heartwarming and amazing. Pays Mad 20% for their name is incredible!
This interview had me teary-eyed 5 minutes in (Mad Mexico trip) and that wasn't even the best story Sergio shared with team Cartoonist Kayfabe. Thank you! 🙏
that commission of Groo in the garden of earthly delights was insane beautiful i wonder how much is the commissioner paying for that piece ??? 1:41:33
You guys are truly doing the work of artistic gods & I don't have the words to thank you enough for what you do. Your channel is exactly what I needed to find recently & it's only inspired me even more to put the pen to paper each day. Can't thank you guys enough for creating this platform; so much knowledge in every episode.
For some reason, he was on my mind...
Born in 1970, I grew up with Mad Magazine and the books they published.
Sergio was always one of my favorite.
Glad to see this interview, really warmed my heart.
I really hope to "age well" with such a happy spirit.
He's a real sweet soul.
Groo was the first comic I ever bought.
thanks for this 👏
What an amazing life story Sergio has. From starting at Mad Magazine to breaking in at DC and then Groo…
He is a living legend and I’m thankful you guys did this interview!
I met Mr. Aragonés at a convention a few years back. It was purely by happenstance... I didn't know he was there... just happened to be walking by his table. I immediately turned into a 12 year old fanboy. I hadn't read MAD magazine in probably 30 or 40 years, yet this gentlemen was such an influential part of my childhood. I spoke with him briefly and he was as charming and warm a character as he he is in this interview. I am not easily impressed by celebrities, but I was thrilled to meet him.
Great interview.
Not only did he absolutely steal my heart. Then that Bosch-inspired piece is the cherry on top!
My favorite interview you guys have done so far. What a dear kindred spirit. Would love to hear more of his stories. Thank you so much for providing this incredibly informative and entertaining video.
Oh man I can’t wait to watch this in full later. Aragones is awesome awesome. You can feel his fun and buoyant energy in the drawings too.
Two of the best hours I have ever spent…thanks guys….a true giant and such a gent !!!!!!!!
Amazing interview! Bravo! When Ed says he thought those toys were a Spawn collection, I lost it.
Aragones is awesome! I love his cartoons and it's a pleasure to hear him tell stories.
Thank you gentlemen. This interview was an absolutely wonderful gift.
You gotta have Sergio back on and expand on that aquatic ballet phase
He has a legendary story about performing with them, in a pool, in a gorilla suit. He's drawn it as a comic in a book called Streetwise (that also has that pencilled story Jack Kirby did about his childhood, with that double-page spread street scene).
Read a few collections of his silent strips, and this heart-felt, deep conversation with talented, hard-working, cultured, and most of all humble living legend made me crave for more. Loved the idea of graphic memoirs by Sergio Aragones!
This was amazing, guys. I could hear Sergio speak for hours. And on a personal note, so happy to hear so many argentinian artists pop-up!
Wow! I have been following your great Cartoonist Kayfabe shows for 3 years now... and this interview was so EPIC that I couldn't resist making my first comment to you all... Keep up the good work!! and super THANKS!
The first 30 min of this interview is PURE gold. Makes me wonder if there will be any stories like this in the future generations, or what it will sound like.
I don’t know why i wanted to cry like a 1000 times during the interview, man thanks Ed thanks Jim, this touched me so deeply. Mucho amor amigos del arte, mi papá y mi hermano me enseñaron a Sergio Aragonés cuando era niño, este hombre es un tesoro
Picturing Sergio, in a Paris hotel room, with his table and chair on the bed is too great!
Sergio Aragones is a legend among legends. This may be the greatest shoot interview in the history of the channel.
Sergio
I have done my best to collect all of your collected works. One of them came from Amazon used books. Inside was an original drawing you did of yourself and Asked E Neuman. And you signed it. It was done on a clipping from a newspaper announcing your appearance at a book signing in San Francisco in the 1980's. I cherish it. I almost fell over when I found it. I think the book seller missed it. I'm a cartoonist and you're one of my main influencers. Such a pleasure watching this video. Stay well and safe and the same to your family. Thank you for all the joy you bring. Please do another interview. I could have listened for hours more.
1:09:52 they werent kidding about his speed. He just draws an awesome lil, mondo-styled dog in like ten seconds lmao
Has to be one of the best interviews you gents have done, purely for Sergio’s amazing stories and warm nature. What a cartooning legend. Well done 🍻
GREAT INTERVIEW ED! Cant wait to have you back on my channel to talk "Hip-Hop & Comics"!
It's the third time I watch this. Such a lovely man. I've been a Fan since the early 90's. Everybody would like to have Sergio as a friend. Me cae rebien esté señor. Una perla. Salutations depuis Montréal cher monsieur Aragones. Ce Monde est un monde meilleur avec vous en lui. Keep up the good work guy's!
The legend! We don’t see him much on media so thank you guys
Man, this was a blessing!! Sergio is such an amazing person and artist. Must be a blast to sit and chat with him any time. Just makes you wanna hug the guy. Small correction… Ziraldo (cartoonist he mentioned) is Brazilian and not Argentinian. All good. Definitely need a part 2, 3 and 4 of this.
Awesome interview. He's just as colorful and charming as you grow up picturing as a kid then as an adult hoping but accepting probably isn't that way. Great to see young Ivan had it right. and great job letting him talk and spin his yarns without stepping on them or forcing the interview in some specific direction at the cost of getting the full Aragones joy.
The Black Hawk artist he's probably talking about is Reed Crandall.
Such a great interview and what a great creator! This channel just keeps getting better, the stories that are being told in these shoot interviews are priceless.
AWESOME!!!!!!! My favorite interview! They are all great, but this one is so great! You guys just keep getting better!
This is the first time in my life that I’ve seen and heard Sergio talk and I wasn’t disappointed. Thanks guys.
I absolutely adore that man! Been a fan of Groo for decades now. Really warms my heart only knowing Sergio's still hard working at it. Usted es una grande inspiración señor! Un abrazo depuis Montréal.
Okay I just finished this, I gotta say this is now probably my favorite shoot interview you guys have ever done. Love Sergio! I can listen to him tell stories all day! I need to hunt down the comics where he draws some of these stories. I hope he does an autobiographical comic one day of his whole life.
What a wonderful man. I love Sergio. Thanks guys for such a treat.
Probably my favorite interview so far. What an amazing artist with such fantastic stories. Definitely looking forward to a part 2.
Had the real pleasure of meeting him at a small convention years ago. Spent 30 mins in awe looking at his original pages. All the while he spent time chatting with my daughter and I who was 12. He was a such a delight gifted a Rufferto magnetic . Which still lives on my fridge door. Love the Kayfabe spotlight on him. The man is a legend!
Hell yes! Bangers! Every episode, Bangers!
Loved this one. Legendary man, amazing stories.
This was fantastic. I love these interviews. Hope you guys are able to have him on again soon.
He was always my favorite artist at Mad and such a sweet man. Thank you so much for this.
I love how Sergio mentions all the amazing cartoonists from Argentina and how they were his biggest influences! Please review more Latin American cartoonist, you guys won’t retreat it! 💪🇲🇽🇦🇷
Wonderful stories. Thank you for sharing this. Those margin cartoons still mean so much to me. What an icon and an innovator. Day dreaming about being a pirate on his boat. So good. Great studio. The Popeye shirt. Little carvings. Wow! Thank You.
1:30:03 all great artists from Argentina - but Ziraldo is from Brazil ;)
This interveiw was pure distilled human spirit. Thanks so much for this.
I have never really been too big on feeling I need to meet creators whose work I enjoy. But after reading Groo for decades, I wanted to go talk to Sergio at a Con. He WAS THE SINGLE NICEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET IN MY LIFE and he had all the time in the the world for me. All those crazy funny Groo comics I had read, and he himself was like a character that had jumped right off the page. One of the best memories of my life. Sergio is a treasure.
Sergio was one of the guests at a Creation Events comic convention in the early 80's and I've always remembered how nice he was. Shows back then weren't like they are now so at times he was just walking around and you could walk up to him, get his autograph and he'd chat with you, ask your name, etc.. Knew him from Mad and I think Groo had just came out but he was also doing drawings on the TV show Real People (?) where they would be going to commercial break around that time.
Man, what a treasure it is to get this guy on tape. I could have listened to two hours more. Legend.
Oh man that was phenomenal! What a great interview! Thanx so much for this!
Im from Argentina and Sergio being influenced by Oski, Mordillo, Breccia and Quino made me proud, excellent interview Ed!
Thank you so much for this.
Fantastic, this is pure gold.
Truly one of the sweetest, most beautiful interview you guys have had. Sergio is such a talent, such a gifted cartoonist and a very entertaining interview. I hope he enjoyed himself here so that he may drop in again. So much to learn from him.
Thanks guys and also thanks to uncle Geoff for making this possible. I love seeing this channel grow and expand its network and I hope it takes over the world soon!
Sergio just makes me happy. What a legend. ❤️
Great interview ty for this
This was so good. Thanks guys!
I'm listening to this interview while packing orders. It will be re-visited once I can sit down and really absorb all this wisdom. The man is a true inspiration.
You’re a legend Sergio! Thank you.
Great job guys! I've heard Sergio interviewed several times at cons - did it myself in Helsinki - and this is the best interview I've heard from him!
wow! Thanks for such a great interview.
Jim & Ed - 🎉 continue to drop the best interviews with the biggest stars… I’d love to see Philippe Druillet Lone Sloane being covered by you guys.
Thank you very much for this interview (great that you just let him talk when he winds up!)! I am not much of a comic reader, but Groo is just perfect (the only comic that even comes near to my favourite Alan Ford by Magnus and Bunker). All the best!
One of my absolute favorites of all time!!! Thanks guys!
Great interview. Thanks 🙏
master class, thank you dudes
This is so wonderful :) Thank you!
This was wonderful
This might be my favorite interview so far. It’s at least tied with the Geof Darrow one, which was my favorite until now. Great work guys
Amazing interview, amazing man. Class.
What a treasure! Thank you for this interview.
A true living LEGEND
Damn I'm about to go into work, this is definitely getting watched when I'm out
So great! Loved all the stories, Sergio is amazing. Congrats guys!
