This is where I send my clients for muzzle training information 🙌 Thank you for creating such a good tutorial, so good that I decided I didn't need to make my own!
I'm still working on getting my dog fully comfortable with the muzzle but she doesn't seem to dislike it. I'm working really slow because I want it to be a good experience. She is reactive and I did not socialize her properly as it was my first dog. I have not been able to take her on walks and the last few years because she became reactive after being attacked by other dogs twice. This is a good tutorial to help with the adjustment process.
I liked your final point about 'training' other owners who see your dog with the muzzle learning to give you some distance or take some care when approaching.
This vid was so helpfull and a life saver literally. Slowly over a couple of weeks I followed your advice and this enabled my rescue dog Skylar to easily accept a muzzle. Could not have done it without you. Could not recommend this vid more highly. Thank you so much for making and posting it.
I thought it was about time I thank you for this very useful video! I am a Clinical Animal Behaviourist and every one of my clients who needs to muzzle train, gets sent this video to support the work we do together. It is fabulous! Thank you so much!
Thank you for that brilliant tutorial! What a loving way to slowly introduce your dog to a muzzle that could cause great anxiety if it's not introduced properly.
So fantastic, thank you very much. My 11-year-old dog has never worn a muzzle, as he is nice with everyone, be it dog or man (although not with mice and chickens). But as I plan to go to England by ferry, I learned that I am supposed to have him wear a muzzle. And nearly panicked - me, not him, he is still unaware. But this training video really reassured me that with training I can get him to wear a muzzle without being too uncomfortable. Thanks a lot again!!!
I had a look at this, it is really good, confirmed how I was going to do muzzle training, positive training, praise, I like positive training and seeing wiggly tails :D
This is incredible! I will try this to my dog especially that she is very active and just wanted to jump on me if she doesn’t feel comfortable on something that I put on to her. Thank you! ❤️
Im sure this video will come in extremely usefull over the next few months, with a lot us xl bully owners now having to mandatory neuter and muzzle in public
That dog is so well behaved! I rather doubt he actually needs a muzzle. I mean, she was happy to do that demonstration near the end of him going near the man with his dogs without a muzzle, and he just generally seemed like such a friendly, well-behaved sweetheart.
reason my german shepherd needs a muzzle training? potential new law in the netherlands being passed lots of tough laws for dogs who are considered ''high risk''. So my sister with her amstaff and I with my german shepherd started early training just in case...
+Blue Cross I have a westie who is a funny shape. He was attacked by 2 dogs when he was 1 now he is 3 and he since then goes for other dogs Getting a muzzle for him is a nightmare. He is between sizes. The biggest baskerville is too big and smallest is too small. Told you he is a funny shape. His name is Buddy. I hate the fabric muzzles..
My dog's first reaction to wearing the muzzle was to lay down and take a nap. after only 15 minutes of wearing it he's snoring. Now I don't want to take it off him because it will wake him up.
I love your video! But I'm quite skeptical as my 2 year old dog listens to no one and is extremely difficult to train... you've encouraged me though. Will try this tomorrow and see what happens
Fantastic video! Just what I was looking for. My dog can be fear aggressive, if pushed to her limits. But is mostly fearful. I.bought her a muzzle and she has only worn it a few times and keeps trying to rub it off. Just in time to see a training vid. Going to reintroduce the muzzle since it has been awhile since she worn it with these techniques hopefully it works. Thanks
Hello, I just wanted to ask has your dog managed to come over his fear aggression? I'm asking because my dog has developed some serious aggression out of fear of strangers and it's been hard to deal with. All the best
Love your video, but i have one question: the muzzle you're using (looks like the anti scavenge model), is that detachable piece in the front already there or do you have to manually cut that piece out beforehand?
Thanks for posting this, it's really great help. I'm muzzle-training a dog from my local animal shelter at the moment. He is at the stage where he puts his mouth into the muzzle for a few seconds to retrieve food. I'll definitely try peanut butter to entice him to keep his mouth in the muzzle longer.
My dog is very nervous and won't accept treats when she's anxious. I can get the muzzle on her now but she scrabbles to get it off immediately and absolutely refuses to acknowledge treats. Any suggestions will be greatly received. Thank you xxx
Is there anyway to do this without treats? My girl is only 6 months old. We are having to muzzle train because she is so sick. She has had super bad GI issues since we got her 4 months ago and is on prescription food now. She doesn't like the prescription treats... Also she has such bad allergies, we have ended up in the ER after she has had boiled chicken, and even plain beef... Every time we take her into the yard to potty on leash, she comes back in with severe facial swelling and hives.. we don't know how it's happening. We really focus on her to make sure she isnt eating anything off the ground. We have been to the animal ER 4xs in the last couple weeks, the last visit in she was starting to get a restricted airway... I want her to be okay, I want her to be able to wear a muzzle safely so that I can take her outside the house to potty and go on walks. But I don't know how to muzzle train her without the use of jackpot treats 😭 She could honestly care less about the prescription treats that I am able to get with her prescription food plan... And the vet advises for her to not have anything to eat that is not prescription for the next 4-6months
The brand is called ''baskerville'' you can buy it at most pet stores. Where are you from? You can also but it from people who own a business on ebay. I have this one for my german shepherd because of potential breed specific law.
Thank you so much i needed this lesson...going to practice today with my Pete. Just one question: he is a 7 years old american staffordshire terrier. Can i still train him to wear the muzzle? Thank u and keep up the good job!
Its never to late to train a dog i'm training my 6 year old right now for muzzles and leashes he picked up leash training faster but the muzzle is going slowly it'll just take some time
Loved the video! But not all dog aggressive dogs wear muzzles! They can stop the dog eating everything on a walk. I have a very sociable dog who likes to eat everything on a walk (literally anything and this affects his stomach) so he wears a muzzle but everyone thinks he is aggressive when he's not!! So sad to see!
I watched this vid for the same reason. The country I currently live in has so much rubbish in the streets, in the parks and with so much temptation everywhere a muzzle is my last resort. Thanks to this vid I just might get Toby to wear one so thanks for posting - it gives me hope!
Good afternoon, I am the founder of Muzzled Misfits, a muzzle advocacy page. Our goal is to shine a positive light on muzzles, the dogs who wear them and owners who choose to use them regardless of why. We currently share positive stories, success stories, and educational information regarding muzzles. Eventually we hope to have meet ups for muzzled dogs and their owners in the farm of structured walks and supervised socials (for those who are safe to do so), as well as help educate Veterinary and shelter/Rescue staff on proper muzzle sizing, training and uses. We are trying to get more input from Pet Professionals such as Dog Trainers, Veterinary Staff, and so forth. I know you are very busy, but I would absolutely love if you could share your thoughts on muzzles, muzzle training and any other information to be featured on our page! Thank you so much!
I own a Dogo Argentino. Research if you want, to know the breed. Never ever needed a muzzle. Dogs can be trained to voice control. Food reward training is trash training! You need to control dog not them control you. 🥜 Butter is good for meds.
Thank jeebus crust for this. I just got a 4 year old husky/heeler/gsd mix and we weren't told she was dog aggressive. She's fine with our other dogs now, but not with dogs she doesn't know so we got her a muzzle the other day and she just wasn't having any part of it. I'll try this tomorrow!
Fabulous, thank you lovely to see appropriate training training carried out. we recomend all our clients to watch your video - thank you. Dean at CBT Referrals.

Thank you for creating such a good tutorial, so good that I decided I didn't need to make my own!

Very nice work in this training session!

Thank you for that brilliant tutorial! What a loving way to slowly introduce your dog to a muzzle that could cause great anxiety if it's not introduced properly.
This is good, because this video shows how to handle a dog shaking their head with their muzzle, trying to get it off! Thanks.

Your dog looks absolutely gorgeous!

Yes nice video indeed it will help a lot of people understand how to use kindness an patience while training dogs to adapt to muzzles.

Doesn’t hurt to muzzle train. Could help vets etc
She used that dog to show us how to muzzle train.
love this nice work lovely dog

@@the_blue_cross hi.. over what time frame was this training. I know dogs differ.. but approx (each stage).would be great..
My dog's first reaction to wearing the muzzle was to lay down and take a nap. after only 15 minutes of wearing it he's snoring.

He still have it on?

Superb video Claire. A great resource for my clients - thanks!
We have rescued a dog a month ago and he was beaten with a muzzle on what can I do to help him cope with the muzzle please
So useful, thank you.
What type of muzzles were used in the video?

I know this was a lot to read. Sorry
I just really want to help my baby.
ABout how long does this process take? I’ve just started training my dog to use a muzzle and it seems success is a long way away!
each dog is different and you need to practice everyday for a while step by step.
We're do u buy them?
Any normal pet store and online
Can you please tell me the exact name of this particular muzzle?
Looks like the standard baskerville basket muscle, there is also baskerville ultra muzzle.
also what is the best size for a pit bull or how do I make sure I order the right size thank you for the video
1000 Angels Feeding Zoe No idea because pitbulls are banned here in the uk.
What breed is he? He looks exactly like my Moomin, that I was told was a boxer-cross but I find it hard to believe.
Hi there! I'm looking for the muzzle in this video because it SNAPS shut instead of buckling like most Baskervilles I've seen. Anyone know?
The brand is called ''baskerville'' you can buy it at most pet stores. Where are you from? You can also but it from people who own a business on ebay. I have this one for my german shepherd because of potential breed specific law.

Tracy X cookie 73 X Yes.

They should do more videos like this but featuring the animals that need rehoming!
great work but that muzzle is too small, doesn't allow him to fully pant
Yes it does.
My dog wears a halti. But I'm getting a pet first aid kit and a muzzle just in case she gets injured.
I own a Dogo Argentino.
Research if you want, to know the breed.
Never ever needed a muzzle.
Dogs can be trained to voice control. Food reward training is trash training! You need to control dog not them control you.
🥜 Butter is good for meds.
This training is reward based training and it really works so not trash training.
