I met Buddy once in a Chicago bar. He sat next to me and ordered. I looked at him and said "You know, I bet alot of people have told you that you are a spitting image of Buddy Guy". He laughed and said "Yeah, I get that alot". Then a couple of girls walked up and ask for his autograph. It then hit me that it was really him! I paid for his drink (no alcohol, just soda) and he thanked me, patted me on the shoulder, and left. A very down to earth, nice guy.
Saw Buddy Guy open up for George Thorogood with my dad in Baltimore. We were disappointed that George didn't open for buddy
Who Cares?
In Spain, I Saw Neil Young open x Sting.
It was better: when Neil finished, i went home.
I never miss a show when he comes to town. He's a great guy.
Buddy likes those ice pick tones live though. Holy smokes, I sat in front of his amp one time at Chastain Amphitheater in Atlanta and this amp tone drills a hole right into your forehead like a laser beam. Treble City, baby. Love Buddy Guy!
I can remember when Buddy would come to town borrow a Strat and play through the opening bands harp players Bassman at 10 which the harp player hated.Just A Strat straight through a Fender Bassman. Those were the days.
pretty simple setup... buddy plays the blues, you don't need circus setup.. Gilbert doesn't do much.. gets coffee, donuts, sets up the rig in about an hour.. walks around with his hands in is pockets the rest of the nite.. great JOB!
Love his simplicity
Buddy Guy is insane at live show
one laid back dude, yeah mmm. yeah
i think ive seen about every rig rundown but as i was looking through the catalouge when i saw this one and dont know how i didnt see it before. i love BG and love this rundown. thanks guys
Yeah, mmhmm, yeah.
I used to have the polka dot Strat and man it played so great.
DuckTalesWooHoo1987 I used to play it a few times in a shop... man i should have bought it
I was at his show in Legends, one cold January night. Through the semi transparent curtain, I could make out two Bassman sized amps, but the lighting was too low to see the names of the amps. When Buddy came on for his sound check, the lights came up enough where I could see the Chicago Bluesbox emblems on the amps.
As many of you know, Buddy rides the bridge pickups on his Strats a lot. During his sound check, his volume was incredibly loud, and the tone was icepick. But for a moment, Buddy switched to the neck pickup, and played a riff. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. The tone was incredible. The next day, I scoured the Chicago Music Exchange and the Music Gallery Inc’s websites. They each had one.
I have owned 3. Sold two, but will never sell this last one. Incredible amps. Buddy deserves such a Signature amp. There’s a terrific story about how Dan Butler sonically reproduced the sound of Buddy’s own 1959 Bassman.
That guitar tech is so relaxed hahaha "Yeeeeeah, man. Mhm yeah." haha
The way this tech speaks sounds exactly like Eric Johnson. Not the sound of his voice, but his speed and mannerisms. These guys have to be from the same place.
By overuse of the word "Tone"?
Must be from here, Texas. We tend to slow things down a bit from Pantera's groove to DJ Screw Chopped & Screwed.
@bmwm3cs that is a Furman voltage regulator, which has a built in power conditioner as well.
whoa, volume blast in the right channel at the end
Great doc
He's holding out.. you can tell. Damn that Buddy Guy!
There you have it tone purists. Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy add to the count of great guitarists that use noiseless single coils 🤘
@taylor410ce ive been watching these vids a long time and this is really refreshing to see, great tone isnt as hard to get as people think
The Bass control is at 3 (a low setting) because it's a BASS amp
Wow that guitar tech is all personality!!!
I prefer the Lace Sensors Buddy Guy years...huge tone
Love that tech's personality! "Uh-huh, yep, uh-huh." lol
wow that was simple! i guess its all in his hands....a lot of tone natzis will be disappointed by that.
I own a fender bassman that buddy guy used live a few years back
Nothing like smoking a big joint...... love this guy.
The question is answered in the video.
Buddy Guy is just using a power conditioner (a must have, expecially with valve amps), a wireless receiver and a signal splitter to use more than one amp at a time.
I wonder how often Buddy had to change tubes? Running Bassman amplifiers full out, basically all the time. I wonder how well the tubes hold up? What a guy man?
Yeah, mhm, yeah...
Damn... I want this guys job... doubt I'd trust him to put laces in my shoes, let alone strings on a living legends guitar... luckily he seems to know an on/off switch... geezus....
My blues junior goes to twelve...
My pro Jr stinks, bass breaker is OK Peavy even good
How can buddy guy bend gauge 11 strings that far?!?
He doesn't. They lie. He uses 9-42
@@Gunnar1794 😁😁😁
Does it have a nice tone?
Absolutely bare bones no messing rig. Just shows that most of the sound is the player, and all this nonsense about the tension of screws on a scratch plate is really just stupid.
Major Biggles thats a live rig tho. i dont buy into most of that nonsense either but when it comes to studio recording a LOT more things start making differences
Dominic Blanchette yeah, of course more things can tend to happen in the studio, but that's not a given.
I just went from Dan Donegan's massive rig to this humble one.
nano b Heart of Texas Music does EJ's set up or used to.Buddy and EJ are not near the same.Erics guitar set up is very guarded and secret and COMPLEX.He likes it like that and Buddy will play anything. This was years ago when I was around these guys all the time and like Bob Dylan says"Times are a changin".Amazing that Buddy has a guitar tech these days.
"Buddy likes this one, the tone of it specifically" what, not just the colour of the maple on the fretboard? Wow
I have a Buddy Guy Signature Strat and it fas lace sensor pickups. Does he not use these pickups?????
man i really want those amps!
i just noticed that those are jimmie vaughans guitars in the backround haha. they mustve been on the bill together
@omfg51
He's a guitar tech, not Shakespeare
Damn, 11's? He's got some monster old fingers.
how u keep all that noise down maxed out like that if you dont have a furman injecter?
Does Buddy use any reverb?
Where is the tele deluxe?
@GimmeSomeOno Absolutely, there was TWO huge brown wooden drawers in his rackmount at 5:01 of what looks like some foot pedals (notice a green one, maybe a Tube Screamer?) that he didn't ask to see and Gilbert didn't offer to open. Hmmmmm......
Good to know some people keep it simple
Is he related to Henry Garza from Los Lonely Boys??
This probably sounds really stupid but how necessary are the racks? Why can't I just get my amp to the PA and be ready to go?
so what is the device sitting on top of the amp? did i miss where they discussed that?
Are you talking about the polka dot Dunlop Cry Baby Wah Pedal?
What colour is his main strat?
I wonder if a legend like Mr. Buddy Guy, if he would ever use a Hot Rod Blues Jr. IV?
mhmm mhmm yeh yea
Jimmy Vaughan uses the same amp don't he?... Must be GOOD!!!
5:10 Yo, is that Astroglide in the the bottom right corner?
MrJeezus good eye
I don't even know who this guy is. I just like watching big rundown.
Does Buddy Guy really play 0.11 string gauge (extra light) ???? How can he make a whole concert with all this bend ??Does it mean wounded g strings ?
Yeh, mhm, yeh, mhm, yeh, yeh..
Cream Strat is my dream
jimmie vaughans guitars in the background!
Oh yeah they finally did buddys
He's got the easiest tech job in the business.
tbh i would have expected him to play some original / vintage strat from the early 60's
What tuning
@taylor410ce I've always thought he was minimalistic in his gear. I'm rather happy my pure guess is correct... :p
his guitar teh is high as hell!!
mhmm mhmm yeah yeah
just the basics for the great Buddy Guy.
You like stevie ray vaughn? Guy was his hero..
finally the have the man mr buddy guy woooooo
yeah mhmm yeah
Full as tech.
Bass at 3, mid and treble dimed . . . or rather, 12'd. LOL.
But mine goes to 13.........🤔
No mucking about… guitar, fingers, soul and amp
that furman does not regulate voltage, fyi.
Crazy settings on his amp.
These go to 12!
sorry i dont understand english. What say the man in the video. Buddy played with a mexican guitar 1:11 seconds?
i guess you heard it right man...
Nghhhh, yeah, yeah, here we got a lawnmower blade, nghhhhh, got 2 blades on it, we call it a "slingblade," mhmmm, rrrrrrrrrrrr , , , , ,
Well no wounded g. I've seen ernie blakk slinky 0.11 0.48 but it's huge ! I know Buddy Could play 2 steps bends !! Wow !
3:30 the irony writes itself when a "Bassman" type amp dialed with it's Bass roll down to almost zero :D :D :D
joke aside, i wonder what the result would be, maybe it will work wonder in the context of blues purpose mix?, i need to binge watching Buddy's live performance to find out
You can't get a simpler set-up than that. LOL He has great tone. Now he has his own signature amp.
YA MMM MMM YA , MMM MMMM YA
TONEEE...
Jimmie Vaughns Strats are behind them.
Michael Sean good eye! I missed it. When did they tour together?
I'm not your Buddy, Guy!
I'm not your guy, buddy!
I'm not your Friend, Pal...
I’m not your Pal, Guy
Changes guitar when Buddy is out of tune?!? Buddy is always out of tune and I love him for it!
How can he bend these strings so much with eleven gauge...🤪
Yea..mhmm... yea..
A real man uses NMV bassman circuit, all the way up. Same settings we use on our old JMP's, which are just tweaked bassmans
How about that? I too have a Strat and Bassman amp. So I guess it is in the hands...LOL
"yeah mm mm yeah"
i play a 14-58 plain g its not that hard to do bends.
yeah. Mmm Hmm, mmmHmm. right on Gilbert!
Dude is so high.
SERIOUSLY?...Thats Buddy Guy..You had to have seen that polkadot strat before, thats his signature he's older than dirt..
where is the girl ?? :/
Probably not... Garza is about as common as Smith or Jones in hispanic culture... Heck, my last name is Aguilar & there's like two whole pages of Aguilars in the phone book where i'm from. ;D
and what not..
