In the 1980's I was searching for God. I attended a church of like faith here in NZ, UPC, where I was baptized in Jesus name, Acts 2v38. There is no looking back, but loving Jesus each and everyday, and that God has given me His promise of the HolyGhost to be an overcomer and live in victory. Back in the biblical days, when a gentile wanted to convert to Judaism, that person had to follow the mosaic law, and if he was a male, he had to be circumcised. You had to follow all their customs and laws, and the final step was baptism or as they called it Mikvah, and once they were mikvah they had to take on a Hebrew NAME and that name got you ingrafted into Judaism. I have a question, I have repented and believed and I was baptized years ago in the name of the Lord Jesus as I felt the Lord lead me to and to literally test the waters at a church so different than what I grew up in. I didn’t believe at that time it was needed for the remission of sin so I feel because I didn’t have the faith and do it FOR the remission of sin it didn’t count (without faith it is imposable to please Him). I see now that I didn’t know the full picture. I still don’t know how much a role baptism plays this side of heaven but growing daily. From what I see in the Scriptures right now, faith in the death burial and resurrection of Christ could be applied to your account when you are baptized. It’s not the baptism itself that does it, it’s when you are baptized in obedience that Christ’s righteousness is credited to your account (is this correct?). I also was baptized again in the name of the Lord Jesus a couple weeks ago but I had a little doubt in my heart right before (Ethiopian unique had to believe with ALL his heart prior to being baptized and I feel bc my little bit of doubt I didn’t). Do I need to get baptized again or is my obedience enough? I also have scrupulosity religious OCD so I don’t wanna do it for the wrong reasons. Thanks

Let me begin by saying that I fully respect these men and the education they have received and their years of experience…but this is where I get confused regarding baptism. We’ve established the importance of being baptized in the name. Which I understand and clearly see in scripture. But if His name is actually Yeshua, then that is the name the apostles wouldve been baptizing in. So why are we doing so in the name of Jesus and not Yeshua? If Acts 2:8 is a water baptism formula then it can be added that there are several formulas in the book of Acts. It states that people were batised in the name of the Lord or in the name of the Lord Jesus. Which one is a formula. Acts 2:38 was not preached to Gentiles, it was preached to Jews. Gentiles were brought into the family of God in Acts chapter 10. Everything changes. Jews can't receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit until after water baptism. Gentiles receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit when they believe. God's spirit can't dwell in an unclean temple!! The UPC didn't come on the scene until 1914 or so. Does that mean that for almost 2000 years nobody ever got saved???? We are saved by the finished work of Christ. I will trust his finished work. Saved by GRACE through FAITH.

I was baptised in the Name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit...it is exactly the same as being baptised in the Name of Jesus Christ...only for the fleshly mind will there be a difference. Those in the Holy Spirit knows that there's NO difference!

Quick question in the 19 chapter of acts the baptism of John was it of none effect , that they had to be re-baptize in the name of Jesus Christ.

If you mean Genesis 1:26, that the plurality of Majesty in the English language, Kings or Queens use that kind of language to describe to themselves.

JESUS IS GOD THE FATHER, THE SON OF GOD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT/GHOST! JESUS IS OUR EVERYWHO, WHO CREATED EVERY-THING AND EVERYONE IN HIS INFINITE UNIVERSE THAT HE, JESUS, CREATED, ALL ALONE, BY HIMSELF. I was baptised in the Name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit...it is exactly the same as being baptised in the Name of Jesus Christ...only for the fleshly mind will there be a difference. Those in the Holy Spirit knows that there's NO difference!

Question: What did Jesus command His Disciples to do? To baptize everyone in the 'NAME' of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
What is the 'NAME' of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost? Notice in Matthew 28:19, there is a COMA between the titles Father and Son, and Holy Ghost! Does this indicate three persons in the Godhead? NOT AT ALL! Notice that Jesus commanded them to baptize 'IN THE NAME OF'! The words FATHER, SON, HOLY GHOST, are TITLES! Not names!
Let's say your name is Jim Johnes! You are married, and have children! You work in a Car dealership! You receive a check from your boss. You take it to the bank to cash it in. On that check, where you put your name, you write the words, 'Father, Son, Husband"! Don't you know the clerk is going to look at you a little strange, because you are supposed to write your NAME, NOT your TITLES! You will have to go back to your boss and get another check, because you just voided that one!
On the same principle, Jesus commanded His Disciples to baptize people, 'IN THE NAME OF'! Notice in Matthew 28:19, Jesus said, "NAME", not NAME(S)! This means ONE NAME, THREE TITLES, NOT THREE PERSONS! Thus, the 'NAME' of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is JESUS!
NOW, There are many people in this world, in different countries, with the name Jesus as their first name! Yes, they are SPELLED differently, but the name is still the same! It is pronounced differently, but it is still the name of Jesus!
When you baptize people in ONLY the name of Jesus, I then must ask, 'WHICH JESUS?" Which country does that Jesus live in? If you look in your Bible, Jesus' Disciples baptized in the name of 'THE LORD JESUS'! This signifies that they baptized people in the NAME of Jesus the Christ, Jesus the Lord! If you are baptized, and the baptizer says only the name of JESUS, all you did was get wet! The complete name of Jesus MUST be spoken, just like Peter in Acts 2:38 commanded!
Yes, Peter was there when Jesus gave that great commission! Peter was given the spiritual understanding to know what Jesus was saying! Thus, when the people came to him, after he was done preacher, they asked him, "What must we do"? He commanded them to be baptized IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST! He did NOT only say the name Jesus!
THAT'S THE WAS WE ALL MUST BE BAPTIZED! The way Peter commanded! Peter followed Jesus' instructions! Will YOU?
