  • In the second half of the nineteenth century photography developed rapidly with a proliferation of photographic shops and then in the 1880s with the invention of the Kodak camera.
    This talk covers the rapid growth of portrait photography, the international popularity of the carte-de-visite which became known as cardomania, armchair tourism, the recording of historic events and sights, war photography, the recording of everyday life and finally the fine art photography movement at the end of the nineteenth century known as Pictorialism.
