This (in my opinion) is your best work Mike. No hesitating, straight in with all the background problems and knock them down one at a time. Great filming and narration, no prevarication or deviation, concise and to the point. A masterpiece, well done, ATB, Andy.
Some proper modelling! I have a set that was parked in 1995 and has lived in a box ever since. I will get to it one day. All I will say about this belle is this... Your dad would be proud of that one.
Mike, just picked up on this most enjoyable video which brings back fond memories of my Wrenn 5 BEL set - tried hard to find a Wrenn 3051 set but this was produced in much fewer numbers and proved elusive! _There were mixed formations of Umber /Cream running with Blue /Grey 5 BEL units in early 1969._ The reference to suppliers were most useful (South Eastern Finecast also makes /made flushglazing for these units). Worthy of note is the 5 BEL trailer coaches did not have trussing which can easily be trimmed from the Wrenn coaches - Colin
Superb work Mike and very well explained. It's nice to get to the bottom of a problem with old models and work out ways to fix it. Great video, cheers Rob.
Heavy stuff with the demagnetisation Mike, lovely job all round hope you get the blue sets up to standard. I’ve never seen the real versions, this is what I like best on the channel, so many different trains and locos, thanks, Darren
Very interesting and a great job. I had issues with the same unit as far as connectivity was concerned. I ended up converting to radio control (it's on my channel for anyone interested). It now runs faultlessly.
Thanks for this, I have just bought a blue grey Wrenn Brighton Belle, I've always loved their version, but I have opted for two none powered driving trailers, and I am considering using an old Dublo Pullman chassis and fitting a power bogie to that to power the train.
Highly unlikely that I will ever be lucky enough to own one, not envious at all! but I found this video a great watch. Well paced, informative, background music at a good level. Never doubted the running session for a moment. Glad to see you’re keeping positive. Keep up the great work Mike. cheers
A fascinating watch, even though most of what you did was out of my comfort zone. At 8min 50sec you gave me a possible solution to a problem I have on my blue LMS Coronation loco: in my case the plastic collar into which the fixing ferrule that connects the chassis to the body sits has completely disintegrated (probably due to over-tighening at some point - not by me I hasten to add!) and the ferrule is stuck to the bolt. But watching your video has given me the confidence to be a little more "persuasive" in loosening the bolt and to find a suitably sized replacement collar 🙃
Bought one of these as a non runner over 20 years ago, think I paid about a tenner then. Been in a box eversince, along with everything else I've bought ready for the day when I can get a layout going. That looks to be soon now so I'll need to get it running. Also picked up a running hornby one a couple of years ago for just over fifty quid, just need the three coaches for each to make up the sets now😋

hi there, great video, great to see a wrenn brighton belle again, at present i have a hornby 2 car set as a reminder of the 60s when it usedto tear through three bridges station, the bogies were a rough ride, but now where is the real one ? the mystry deepens
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited hi there, yes. it was meant to be back in 2014, i understand 2 driving ends are at locomotive services ltd.since covid its gone off the boil
Once again, sound workmanship produced excellent results. A well-presented and interesting video. The 5BEL units were very handsome. I wonder what they were like to drive with the Westinghouse brake.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Roderic. I only worked a few units on proper Westinghouse, very good brake but it certainly focused you knowing that you had no back up once all used lol
It is much simpler to take current from the TOP of the bogie fitting column - no need to cut anything anywhere. ie the current is taken from the top instead of the bottom.
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited instead of taking the power directly from the bogie, I unscrewed the brass stansion from the roof and attached the power cable tag there. I did utilise a light spring to make contact between the bogie fixing screw and the stansion. Hope this makes sense?
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited I could not find any info. on they way they were built, so it would appear that I've put it back together the right way. Thank you

I completely agree Andy.
Thanks Michael
Brilliant clever restoration, great to see such good performance too! Excellent! 👍
