The psycho franchise is underrated (that excludes the remake)
A nightmare on elm street with my absolute favorite it’s what got me into horror to begin with.
That's awesome. It's a great film. It was Scream, Jaws and Psycho that did that for me.
@@whatthehorror I saw Psyco and Jaws first. But what really got me in the horror were the nightmare films. And believe it or not I’ve still yet to watch scream. I think that Psyco and Jaws are much better films than any of the nightmare movies, and they’ve certainly aged much better. But I think as a franchise A on nightmare on elm street, is much better. Jaws and Psyco has no reason to be franchises. John carpenters the Thing is another one that got me into horror, and I was definitely way too young to watch it.
I love the categories you chose for the tier list. It's genius. Love you channel.
Surprised I haven't seen a tier list like this before! Been following since the CZs collab, love to see it
Well thank you for the support 👍 I hope you enjoyed the tier list
I love CZ
Final destination is the greatest horror franchise the concept of seeing everyone die and stopping everyone from dying but death comes back for them is amazing
Thank you for putting Paranormal Activity so high up... it does have some really good lore and story... the last movie was definitely weaker because they spent so long messing around with that camera instead of finishing the story arc properly. Toby has different forms so even though he was mainly the shapeless form, I'm convinced he has a more child-friendly form to lure Katie and Kristi, and Hunter and Leila in... then his more traditional, true demon form. Either way, it's definitely a franchise that deserves more love so thank you for showing it some. Also, The Conjuring is such a strong franchise... I absolutely love it... long live the franchise, indeed!!
Oh yay, a fellow fan of Paranormal Activity. That's so cool. I think they don't get enough love.
Jaws is my favorite movie and I agree with you 100% that it doesn't need to be a franchise. Great list and video Sarah!
Thanks so much. Glad to meet another Jaws lover who agrees that it didn't need to be a franchise
I'm surprised to see you put the Tremors franchise on something like this thank you
Representing Tremors over here
I was surprised to not see the Jeepers Creepers franchise on this list! Wonderful video as always and I agree with most of your choices x
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
Lol true horror queen, " put it in the background for comfort watch"😅❤️
Lol, well doesn't everyone do that
Great list :) I agreed with almost everything. I'll need to rewatch Paranormal Activity to remind myself how I feel about it. It's been a long time.
I really like them but if you do re watch be prepared for a lot of the same thing through the films
Interesting, I find that Halloween is like the poster child for strong opener. I think that movie is a perfect one off with an amazing ending, so I don’t like the sequels.
I would also put Friday the 13th in “A Scream” despite it only having two good films: Part 4 and Part 6, but I really like how formulaic the other films are as I know what I’m getting into. I enjoy even just okay entries like part 2, part 7, Jason X and the reboot can be a lot of fun when I am in the mood to watch more than just part 4 and 6.
Very fun! I'd love for you to do more. How about tackling "The Howling" franchise? Maybe "Jeepers Creepers"? "Sinister"?
Some great recs. Probably not Jeepers Creeper though.
Love You Sarah! Oh course, like many others, discovered you through CZ. Awesome channel! Love your irreverent comments of some of the films you talk about (most actually LOL)! They just make me laugh out so hard. I know you love what you do, You're passionate and it shows!!!
I would love to see an updated tier list ranking you complete further franchises. i do have some recommendations for you and they may seem random but here we go: **SAINT MAUD** (2019) **SUSPIRIA** (Italian Giallo re-make-2018), **THE OMEN** (original-1976) and **THE CHANGELING** (1980) Keep on keeping on and looking forward to more exciting and interesting content! Cheers!!!
What do you mean by irreverent comments? I didn't realise my opinions were disrespectful.
@@whatthehorror Hi Sarah! Ohhh No! "Irreverent" is not the word; trying to use Big words I don't always remember the definition of. I should have just said Funny & Deadpan. Love your sense of humor and don't find you in any way, shape, or form disrespectful!! Didn't mean to come off like this. Sincerest Apologies
@@Doinkman79 no offence taken. Just wanted to check. Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Never seen a tier list for franchises before, genius idea, love it. I would add phantasm, the howling and romeros walking dead films to my list. Please watch army of darkness ASAP. Its incredibly short, there's zero horror and its not just the funniest horror film I've ever seen, it's one of the funniest of any genre. Bruce Campbell has never been better, there's over a dozen iconic quotes. His 'this is my boomstick' rant is comedy gold. Random question - do you see any new successful films turning into franchises, things like smile and barbarian? Looking forward to your next episode, thanks for making these videos for us all
Aw thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I will defo be checking out army of darkness. I personally don't think smile needs to be a franchise but I wouldn't be shocked if they made it one.
It's been a minute since I had a chance to sit down and watch UA-cam, total coincidence you uploaded this 😊 I'm also high so I hope this makes sense, but I love hearing about franchises versus the first movie. I LOVE "Jaws" and I forget the others exist.
I completely agree that Friday the 13th/Halloween movies don't have strong enough characters for me to care about them, which makes it disappear into mediocrity for me. Not that the movies are bad, but the franchises are more about the first movie than continuing the story.
Hope you've enjoyed the video. There are so many films where people love the 1st one but forget its part of a franchise. Jaws just didn't need to be one.
That was a great video Sarah. I was a little surprised to hear you haven't seen the Hellraiser films. I've only seen the first 3 though. We all have films and Franchises we haven't seen. I've still only seen the first Halloween.
What about the Species Franchise and One Missed Call Franchise?
Talking of Hellraiser. Part 2 was filmed at Pinewood Studios and I've just incorporated it into an interactive tour of Pinewood Studios on my channel. I put together a list of films that show off the grounds of the studios and not just the sets inside sound stages.
I look forward to your next franchise ranking video.
P.S. what about the Dead franchise. Night Of The Living Dead, Day Of The Dead and so on. Also the Zombie franchise. That could get confusing 😆
Trevor
I think I'm defo going to make my way through other franchises and then do another tier ranking because I keep remembering more that I forgot to add.
You see I can't believe you've only seen the 1st Halloween, but like you said we all have that franchise that we haven't seen or completed. I am a bit of a completionist though, which means I end up watching so many bad films.
@@whatthehorror my thing with being a bit of a completionist is I'm waiting for franchises like The Conjuring universe to stop making films so I can start watching them 😆
There's also the Robert The Doll franchise.
I watched Rob Zombie Halloween and I much prefer it over the John Carpenter one.
Trevor
1. Phantasm (two great movies, one very good movie, one good movie, one mediocre movie)
2. Hannibal Lecter (two great movies, one good movie, one average movie, one mediocre movie)
3. Alien (two great movies, two good movies, two average movies, two bad movies)
4. A Nightmare On Elm Street (three great movies, two good movies, two mediocre movies, two bad movies)
5. Jeepers Creepers (one great movie, one good movie, one bad movie)
6. Psycho (one great movie, two good movies, one mediocre movie)
7. Halloween (one great movie, five good movies, two mediocre movies, three bad movies)
8. Child's Play (two great movies, two good movies, one mediocre movie, two bad movies)
9. The Exorcist (two great movies, two mediocre movies, one bad movie)
10. Friday The 13th (three great movies, three good movies, three mediocre movies, three bad movies)
11. Hellraiser (two great movies, two good movies, five mediocre movies, two bad movies)
12. Pumpkinhead (one great movie, one mediocre movie, one bad movie)
Also completely agree with your comments re the writing in saw - its absolute genius the way things keep getting revealed in later movies, like the reason for amanda turning on john in part 3. The long term plan the writers had was incredible considering the franchise could have been cancelled at any time if one had bombed
Exactly, big gamble to take if the films didn't do well and they couldn't complete the story but I love it
Thanks for the great video. I think I may suffer from the sunk cost fallacy in regard to horror franchises as I do not think any should be placed on the Time of Death tier. Like you, I do not care very much about most Wrong Turn films, but that 2021 remake was really good for a new direction. All franchises have a time of quality and a time of meh. So when a new Puppet Master movie comes out - I'll see it (and yes, I have seen them all)! A new Leprechaun movie, let's go! A new Exorcist movie, let's go! I would very much like to hear What The Horror's future franchise rankings for The Stepfather, Slumber Party Massacre, Prom Night, Romero's zombie films, Candyman and Phantasm.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I do agree that it's nice to try and find a good point to a film or franchise. I mean people have spent time crafting it. But it's a tier list after all and I can't put them all at the top lol
Just came across your channel. Really enjoyed the video. Hellraiser would be very hard to place for me. Absolutely loved the first 2 and then it went a pretty poor. It’s tough to try to think of the franchise as a whole and not just the movie or movies you love.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it's tough to separate the movie you love with a weak franchise overall. Like I said some of my fave films ever were lower down the ranking.
I really think you nailed this! You placed three of my fav franchises in long live the franchise. Saw, Childs play & of course Scream! Couldn't agree with you more with regards to IKWYDLS! First one is one of my all time favs. The sequel is very watchable but the third is 💩 No Grudge? No Hannibal/Silence of the Lambs? 👏 on the video 😎
Yeah amazing first movie in IKWYDLS but terrible franchise. Glad to see some fellow love for Saw, scream and childs play!
The third Psycho movie was directed by Anthony Perkins, the fourth was directed by Mick Garris.
Nightmare on Elm Street is my top favourite franchise. Even though it has some weak films in it. I grew up watching horror with my Mam at a young age and the first Nightmare film is my earliest memory of a horror film. That and I find the concept of nightmares and dreams fascinating. Probably say Scream is my second favourite, in my opinion it doesn't have any weak films in the franchise.
100% agree that scream has no 'bad' entries. That's often why are favourites are our favourites because we have memories attached to them.
In hindsight, putting Saw in long live, the franchise was a good choice as I thought Saw X was one of, if not the best film in the franchise
Great video! I really enjoy your explanations about your selections... I just don't agree with: The Blair Witch Project in the Meh category, for me it should be in Scream.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊

Oh wow what an awesome experience
@@whatthehorror I owe my early exposure to horror movies to him. Another good time was Parasite in 3-D (1982). Bad movie, good company.
Have you reviewed the Masters of Horror series? If not it’s worth watching.
Great list Sarah we have very similar tastes in horror movie and like I've said on one of your other videos love jaws my favourite movie of all time hands down I did like the second one but I do agree didn't need to become a franchise at all and I love the scream franchise one of my favourite slasher franchises also love all alien movies even third one don't really understand why it gets as much hate as it does to be honest it's still a fun time ☺️ absolutely love Halloween that is my favourite slasher franchise always has been from when I was a kid and actually enjoy the one everyone hate Halloween resurrection it's not great by any means but I still have fun with it but the rest of the franchise I really love ☺️ glad to see another person who has love for the psycho franchise I love them all apart from remake I hate that movie total waste of time in my opinion 🤣 keep up the good work Sarah look forward to watching what you do next ☺️
Aw thank you so much! It really does sound like we have similar taste in horror. When I was placing Psycho I forgot to mention the TV series as well. Such a big franchise.
@@whatthehorror bates motel is an awesome TV series love it I have to rewatch that soon as it's been a while but was quite surprised I liked it so much as I ain't big on remakes or movies being made into series really I remember going to see the pet semetary remake in cinema was excited about it as love the original so much and have never been so angry with a movie in my life that remake was awful hated that much I've never watched it again 🤣 there not many remakes I do like to be honest with you lol my 2 must see movies this year are scream 6 and evil dead rise
Army of darkness is my favorite movie of all time, please watch!! And great list, very respectable taste. Cheers!
Thank you so much! I will defo be watching army of darkness at some point! 👍
Def gotta watch the whole exorcist franchise
Heres my sunday additional tier list
Long live- universal monsters, sinister, romeros living dead
A scream- fright night, the howling, the omen, phantasm, hellraiser, hannibal, happy death day, terrifier
Strong opener- dusk till dawn, blade, underworld, candyman, exorcist, jeepers creepers, urban legend, amityville, poltergeist, Lake placid, deep Blue Sea
Meh- Road kill
Time of death- resident evil
Great list! Sinister is Def " long live"
Cheers, I love sinister, there's rumours of a crossover movie with insidious
Absolutely agree about Nightmares on Elm Street. I watched the remake and you are missing nothing at all.
I rank Friday the 13th one tier higher because the first two were good.
I’m surprised they haven’t done a Conjuring movie that covers the Amityville Horror
Yeah, but I suppose there have been other films about that case. And they did touch on it in conjuring 2
Alien Covenant rules. Great cast, hot gay bear couple, tough final girl, terrifying cyborg twins.... rules.
Jigsaw is a fun watch in my opinion. You should reconsider watching it. I like it better than Spiral.
Completely agree with you on the conjuring franchise. Patrick & Vera are unable to do anything wrong
Haha agreed. Especially Patrick Wilson :-)
I'm not going to say you're wrong, and will fully admit my bias, but I'd say give army of darkness, the ash vs evil dead, and if the new movie turns out well that evil dead should be viva la franchise.
I'll be checking out army of darkness at some point 👍
Evil dead is best tier bruh
Tremors!!!!!!!!! I love those movies, esp Burt Gummer!
Finally someone who has great taste
You're totally right about Friday the thirteenth movies
Wasn't there a psycho TV series?
Oh yeah, you're right. Bates Motel I forgot about that
good list. although i'd knock scream down. each iteration makes less and less sense to have the same MO and victim (in first 3). same happened with show. 2 seasons in and it was just senseless. the third season could've been better as a reboot but they half assed it.
It is repetitive in MO but I still love them.
Let's play a drinking game...Drink whenever she says franchise. *A few minutes later...* So, how'd everyone....Oh god you're all dead aren't you...
That sounds far too dangerous
I can’t believe that you put witch Blair so low consider that it was first of its kind, take a look at some videos made by Collative Learning on UA-cam about this film and you will see The Blair witch project in a whole different way. But I understand you are reviewing as franchise the 2nd and 3rd one do suck.
That's why it's lower, it's not a good franchise as a whole.
@@whatthehorror yeap I understand now
Final destination would be meh for me. After the second one, they lost me.
Saw,Halloween and Final Destination have only 1 good movie in them so for me they are very boring and stupid franchises. Friday the 13th is way better franchise than all the other 3 combined. And i will put Psycho, Evil Dead and Friday the 13th franchises as Long Live the Franchise.Insidious,Saw and the Conjuring franchises as Strong opener
Nothing is worse than jeepers creepers 3 and reborn
Time has changed a lot of my opinions on horror films. So, obviously I disagree with Most of your opinions so far (especially the claim that the _Evil Dead_ and _Friday the 13th_ reboots are good) but it took me so long to where I love even ridiculous movies like _Freddy's Dead_ and _Curse of Michael Myers_ when they really are not good. Mostly.
The Friday the 13th reboot is better than most of the Friday the 13th series tho. If I was to put the series into a tier list, part 4 would be S, part 6 would be A, and the reboot would be in the B Tier with part 2 and part 7. I think it’s a very solid film in the series even if it’s not the best.
Evil Dead was a brilliant remake. You can’t capture the brilliance of the original trilogy, and I think using the same premise of the original with an all different cast makes it feel like a remake, but completely fresh. Obviously Ash Williams is a big draw for the series, but I think going in a different direction makes the remake not just a simple cash grab, but a movie that adds to the series. Imagine if we got an Omen Style remake that is literally just taking the scenes of the original and recreating it? That would suck. Now that doesn’t mean you have to like the remake, but at least give it some credit where it’s due
@@thomasffrench3639 No. These remakes completely sucked. Some of the worst horror films I've ever seen, and I've been doing this for over 32 years... I know a lot of children think they're good films but they are wrong.
@@pogoyaga well then why do you like the garbage if Freddy’s Dead or Curse of Michael Myers when they’re boring as shit?
@@pogoyaga also no one cares you been doing this for 32 years
@@thomasffrench3639 See, you are an ignorant person with no taste in good movies. So... nothing you say matters.
Meh
Awful
No one said you had to watch.
Thanks
