    Rainbow mealworms have such good quality feeders, and they have a pretty big variety. I ordered crickets from there (and crickets are pretty notorious for dying) and a few weeks later, not a single one is dead. They are also pretty notorious for stinking, but these ones smell like nothing. I ordered nightcrawlers from Josh’s frogs and they all arrived dead and stunk so bad.

      Im living in Ireland and I think they might be illegal here too because no shops offer them its extremely hard to get them but I managed to get hold of 20-30 of them and breed them on my own. They are super easy to breed and keep, also in countries like Canada if you have some escapees they wont infest the house because they breed at temps over 90 degrees. So even if you want to stop them from breeding because you have enough its as easy as unplugging heat mat.

    Hello Jessica, excellent as always. I love giving a crunchy cricket one at at time. I look it as giving an enrichment exercise for them. So cute those tails start twitching and they start staring. Than pounce like a cat. You know they have had their full when their tails stop twitching and they walk off like they did something amazing!
    I will never tell them the truth. I'm not sure if they would have as much fun if I gave them to them all the time.

    Hi jessica, I have another question for you, I have a juvenile leopard gecko and have had her for about a month and have fed her everyday with about 5-7 mealworms
    Usually she stays in front of the enclosure and seems to be “begging” for more.. I don’t want to over feed her but as she’s a juvenile and growing I want to make sure she is getting all the nutrition she needs! Of course every gecko is different, but should I continue to feed until she in uninterested or should I still keep it within the 5-7 mealworm range?

    Mealworms and superworms can eat their way out. If your reptile isn’t chewing it’s food much, you should crush the head of the insect. The local pet store near me had a very rare occasion where a superworm ate its way through a giant day gecko. It’s very rare so don’t be scared.

    I’m over here worrying about my gecko not eating don’t know what’s wrong with her. I took her to the vet twice vet told me she has and overproduction of bacteria in her poop not sure what that means exactly but I was given some antibiotics and she took them. She still won’t eat and is losing weight not sure if she is ovulating but I’m trying my hardest to get her well she drank water and eats calcium. She just is acting lethargic and unhappy her warm hide heat mat is set to 93 with a thermo and she has a moist hide and cool hide. I also use UVB for 10 hours a day from dawn to dusk so 7am to 7pm and she has a calcium without d3 dish. I use reptile carpet anyone know what could be going on? She hasn’t eaten in 3 weeks she had trouble moving her hind legs but that stopped not she just seems tired all the time and won’t eat and sleeps a lot. Vet on the second visit gave me liquid calcium.

    Coming back to watch this for like the 10th time because you can never have too much knowledge when it comes to caring for your pets!!!! My leo Sakura is somewhere around 6-8 months old?? That’s my best guess at least considering no one knows when she was born and I wasn’t told how old she was when she was given to me. She may also be stunted (idk much about that so maybe she’s just petite lol) because she was fed like every 3 days as a hatchling (which is bad, right? reasoning was simply just neglect as far as I know). As soon as I got her (February), I started feeding her in between 4-6 (depending on how many she would eat) mealworms every day. She has been fed that way ever since just a couple weeks ago, when I switched to the same amount every other day. My question: is that enough for a juvenile? Is every other day often enough or should she still be being fed every day? Is 4-6 average sized mealworms enough? I just got my dubias in the mail today so the same questions apply. Sometimes she won’t eat all that I offer, sometimes she acts like she’s starving and would be willing to eat 10+. How do I keep it consistent and healthy for her? **Anyone feel free to answer, I just need some advice! And thanks Jessica for all your helpful videos!! I always turn back to these when I have a question as I’m still learning how to care for my first and only reptile baby in the best way possible. :)

    I adopted sister geckos. They were in a very dirty cage that had eco earth laid upon old calcium sand upon papertowels. Their water bowl was covered in eco earth and so was their food bowl.. soo they had I’m assuming worms in there that turned into Beatles or maybe they put them in from outside, who knows. Either way they didnt have a feeding schedule and I’m wondering to put them on a feeding schedule.. because in all honesty I was feeding them to much after all my video watching 0.0 .. is it going to impact them in a bad way to put them on more of a restricted diet suddenly? Super worms and wax worms should only be a treat because of their high fat. Offer them once a week.
      Leave wax worms in the fridge to slow down the pupating process into wax moths.
      ALWAYS hit load the geckos bugs
      (No foods high in acid) use things like carrots, cucumbers, zucchini’s, apples, etc, just no oranges, lemon, lime, kiwi, mango, and other things high in acid

      If you only have big bugs, cut them in half and if they stop moving and your gecko doesn’t notice it, simulate movement by using tongs or pliers or whatever to move them and your gecko should come eat it.
      Also you should dust the bugs in calcium one day and vitamins and minerals another

    I have a pretty young new leopard gecko about 6 inch long. I am so unsure of how much to feed. I was giving 4 meal worms at night but my little baby seems so hungry am I starving it? I looked online for juvenile feeding but I really couldn't find anything

      4 mealworms isn't bad, but you could also offer a few more. :) how often are you offering food?

      Jessicas Animal Friends thank you for replying! I'm only feeding once a day I feel like he or she.. (sorry I haven't figured out the sex yet)... needs to eat twice a day. My Leo has a tiny plump belly and a good size tail in my opinion but I'm a new owner so I could be wrong

      Adult leopard geckos should only be fed twice a week. You can get superworms from Josh’s frogs (and you can use code JESSICA15 to save 15% off your first- time purchase)

    My hornworms are huge and I’m worried about feeding them to my gecko. He’s a large adult male, but they still seem like they’d be too big to feed. How large are the worms that you feed your geckos?

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  6 років тому

      Make sure the hornworm isn’t wider than the space between your gecko’s eyes. You can also find a video where I feed my geckos hornworms in the Monday Munchies playlist for comparison:)

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  5 років тому

      I switch it up usually. I feed superworms most. Hornworms 1-2 times a month. Dubias 1-2 times a month. Wax worms once a month. Mealworms least often, except for Merlin who refuses anything but mealies and hornworms and waxworms

    Hey I’m a little bit worried about my African fat tail. She has some discoloring on her forehead where the brown on her forehead is getting lighter. I can’t find anything on the internet that says this is bad, but I’ve heard that is could be because of shedding but I really don’t know.

    So Harriet my leo, is being sooo picky. She will eat a few meal worms, wants nothing to do with crickets or superworms. Loves wax worms but i obviously cannot feed her just that. Ive tried cutting supers in half to trick her. Ive mixed meal worms and 1 wax worm hoping she would just grab at anything. Her tail is shrinking and im worried. Any suggestions or advice would be amazing.
