How? Higgins came to North in his prime, age 26 as a new free agent, and he played for north for 6 seasons, 2 more for Geelong. Luke Parker is already 31, he'll be 32 by the start of next season. Unless you're expecting him to play to age 40 I really don't see the comparison. We'd be recruiting Parker for leadership and perhaps to play a role onfield as a steadying hand for a season or two, we recruited Shaun Higgins to be the star of our midfield when we were trying to contend for a flag.
@@limbus66 yeah you raise some good points Liam. I guess I wasn’t comparing them that deeply. More just adding an established classy midfielder who should improve the team in the short term. But you are correct there are plenty of differences.
Darling vs Pink in'24. JD had more goals and tackles, is an elite trainer and will set standards. Effectively boosts our coaching soft cap with coaching W Dawson, Finbar, Duursma even Bull Perfect for a young bottom 4 side.
I think we need Bergman & Goater to stay injury free get some games in a row together and play off the half back, pocket or wing. The fact they havent been able too thus far has hurt us down back. We also need some experince 25-28yo players with good speed and kicking around the square. I wouldnt put McKercher down back anymore its time for him to play wing use his speed to find space hit up coming out of the back or crumb packs using his burst to break lines through the middle. give him some limited minutes in the centre. Our biggest issue is the amount of time we dont hit targets or turn it over ina 10min radius from just inside the centre square to 50m line. it cost us so many goals on turnover. The build up is generally good but let down that last kick. Parker or Macrae know how to work in those areas. I would also go after Kennedy from carlton.
Social media NM fans want to complain about half of the list, but also complain about any available players in the comp. Then turn around and complain we don't make progression. We have been on the bottom for years, there's 8 other Vic teams in the Melbourne area, we don't have a player car park, low fan base. The only thing we have going is that everybody who plays for North loves coming to work everyday. So let's get realistic with who we can attract and continue to develop our young talented players with veterans who have a wealth of knowledge and experience until we start climbing the ladder. Darling - I like it if it's only a 2 year deal, 3 years and we are kidding ourselves. Parker - Please get this done, 2-3 year deal would be good. Rosas/Owies - Happy with either, gives our younger forwards time to develop. Nick Haynes - Not sure what GWS will do with him, but amazing if we could get him My ideal scenario is that we can recruit 1 veteran for each area of the ground (Forward, Mid, Back) and I would be happy.
If we did get Darling it would actually make me angry because it would be further confirmation that our recruitment is garbage. He is cooked and will only get worse, which is why the Eagles are quite desperate to get rid of him. I'd take Membrey over him any day of the week. He might be 3 cm shorter, but he is 2 years younger and still playing at a very good level. You say you don't want to get hurt, but you want Darling. Help that make sense for me. I'd love to get Parker, but he will be expensive. I'd also take Owies, but that would be confirmation that we should have taken Watson over Duursma in last year's draft after having been linked to him for a long time. That doesn't mean I think Duursma won't make it because he was always going to take more time to come on. Houston would be a great fit for us, but I wouldn't want to give up a probable top 3 pick in 2025 for him because that is overs. Port is reported to want a very good pick in this year's draft for him, so that one won't happen for us.
Would have taken Taberner over Darling until you said his age, thought he was like 27. Part of me wants us to win more games next year so getting Parker/ Darling will be good but now, most of me is wanting us to actually contend for premierships so getting a Riccardi type, some one younger that will be there in 3-5 years is really what we should be getting. But then having a culture of winning is also helpful in the long term. I agree, already over this trade season and it hasn't even started. I think some one said it on the podcast round table, I am really looking forwards to a boring off season
To contend for premierships, we would be better to have a young player coming through. Darling provides that stopgap to train the midfielders how to kick to a second target, while our just drafted tall forward (Whitlock, Armstrong or Faull) develops their leading patterns, confidence and muscle in the twos. Or, if Darling plays in the twos, he will always attract the best defender, enabling the young player to play on a lesser player while he learns. Both ways, this is a two-year project to give a young forward the best platform that we can offer.
Don't be fooled boys, darling is very experienced full forward, 2 years is enough ,experienced, high tackling game and will be exceptional if fitness holds out. I'm 75yo and followed the shinbone supporter since I was 5yo. Luke Parker under Clarko will be a great recruit. Sheezals is a very good half back flanker. Dan Hustan? . Mcray?. Owies. ? Go roo boy's.
Should be asking the crows about josh Rachele. Vic boy, crows fans kinda frustrated with him. We get: Rachele, pick 4, pick 22 Crows get: pick 2, pick 19, Tom Powell, futures?? Use pick 4 on trainor
Are you kidding? You think it's FWD where we have an issue. Our defence is utter garbage. Luke McDonald might be a great bloke but him and the other players down there are not AFL standard for the most part. Comben is getting there. Darling - no thanks. Xerri is excellent.
Darling isnt the answer and he is going to be nothing but a decoy so Suv gets a 1on1 rather then getting double teamed which this season was very hard for him. Yes better options out there but it has to be a contested marking forward not a lead up forward as they need space while contested mark forwards can take you deep and beat you. It allows Suv to use his work rate up and back against his own man. Like when he took weitering up the ground exposing him for his lack of pace and endurance . Problem is theres not many contested forwards available. I would rather Riccardi who would be a 3rd tall option while combin plays his recruited role as CHF. Suv, Riccardi and Combin would change our forward line set up.
he is garbage why do you think they dont want him. all their small forwards 4 in total kicked a combined 35 goals you want that from one player and owies isnt it. Plus he is a wanker that over celebrates a goal when he has done jack shit.
Why would they draft a 33 year old when they got rid of Drew Petrie at 33, wasn't that the reason why they had that big clean out in 2017?, get rid of the older guys, DP, BH, MF, NDS and now they are possibly going to recruit a guy the same age.
I really don't understand this argument I see. This happened 8 YEARS AGO! With a different coaching team and recruitment team and in a completely different phase of development. At the end of 2016 we were an ageing list and just dropped put of competing for a grand final so they wanted to regenerate. We are now the youngest list with about 2 players over 30.. we need some experience while we rise
