It doesn't matter if you accept returns or not. An informed buyer knows eBay has their back no matter what the sellers policy is

This is true, but I think long term it’s negative not to allow returns.

A lot of eBay buyers are NOT informed, and seeing that a seller accepts returns gives them confidence that you stand behind your products.

Laura , After 20 + years of not allowing returns , I changed my mind and started allowing them , customer paying return cost . If , after reviewing the return , We erred , I'll issue a refund for their return . My sales level has improved about 20 % . ( Sales level still suck , lol , but they are improving )
Also , the eBay buyer , even if they know about your reason , will just feel more confident in the seller that is willing to accept the return . I M O .

I've been doing eBay for 23 years,...usually I have 3,500 items up,...I've never allowed returns, ...I've never promoted a single listing,...and I've never allowed a best offer,....however,...I do "end and sell-similar"....but at slow pace,...I'm very greedy,...I've been crushing at Ebay,...but Ebay definitely sucks and could be MUCH better. I prefer to watch videos about how Ebay should change as opposed to sellers changing. Not much hope for us now,...since Ebay is basically a puppet of the government since 2 years ago.

Oops, I lied,...I actually allow returns for my vinyl records...because I don't have time to test them. 1% returns on vinyl probably.

My how you've grown, congratulations. I don't work at it as hard as you two, but I'm learning more and doing more. Still not seeing much growth. Maybe when I work more, I'll make more lol. I’d say do not allow returns if your a new seller under 100 ish made sales. The scammers attack all the newbies. I got scammed hard in the begging. I would sell certain item. Example .. I would receive back identical looking item but way older and broken.

And we always tell newbie resellers to try to build up their feedback as quickly as possible by 1) selling as many things as they can that might be less value or less return just to get the feedback (you must provide top service / products though) and also to be a buyer as well. It's how you build your biz in the beginning and try to avoid the scammer attract phase. You won't find this phase on other platforms that I know of either. Its unique to ebay since ebay stopped letting sellers rate buyers. We also cannot check their negative feedbacks left for others anymore either (another tell tale sign).. But once you get 100 positive then you can relax a bit and start bringing your prices up a little. Even at 1800 positive I get about 1 attempted scammer a year...better than 1 a month in the early days though.

I started allowing returns on shoes and clothes but not toys. I bought a bunch of lego sets and it's easy for someone to take pieces and make it unnoticeable so I sell them as is with no returns.

Going through and reviewing each aged item individually is a huge waste of time with your inventory level. Set a date threshold and start marking down aged inventory incrementally when you hit your aged triggers. You will move that stale stuff quicker with far less time invested. The ROI on your time ilwould be much higher.

I have about 740 listings or so and my main problem that is holding me back is it is all in one small bedroom along with my desk and my shipping desk. It has overflowed to pretty much all over my house. I don't make enough selling to pay for any type of shed like some have and we don't have a garage or basement or attic. I know I could do so much better if I just had the space!

Do you use the legal flat rate envelopes. I threw all my padded flat rates away after I learned about the legal flat rate envelopes. I also do what I call it the candy cane method. I roll the bottom of the envelope like the bottom 3-4" like a candy cane and then stick my hand in the envelope open it up like a origami piece and I can fit huge items into a envelope that I could not fit into a padded flat rate. Also the legal envelopes and much cheaper than the padded bags. I also put the shipping label across the seal as piece of tape to hold it close and have never had a issue since.

I'll need to review this 'Flippd,' one and see what my searches reveal. Great Video! Loved the verbal slip-ups you left in. Shows you're human (I really hate those YT vids with computer voices). Anyone trying to do a full online business using just a cellphone, will eventually get frustrated and fail. To really excel in online business in 2023, and beyond, you'll need a screen large enough to SEE your full advert. As a seller and buyer, out of focus, poorly lit, or just plain "bland" images and sparse details - NEXT SELLER, PLEASE.

I sell in a different category than you but I've had free returns on ebay for quite awhile, i've sold over 6k items(On Ebay) and never had a return. I've also sold items on AZ and my return rate was less than 2% probably closer to 1%. Again I sell in different categories. If sellers realized how much trs+ could save them in fees i think a lot more sellers would offer free returns. When you're doing volume it helps. I'm sure when someone is selling in clothing or electronics the returns would be higher than the things I'm selling, but I think once you sell enough you can tell who the scammers are.

If they still don't sell donate to charity. Each time an item relists it cost one of the 250 free monthly listings. Might as well list a new item for a possible sale instead of wasting it month after month on an unwanted bogus item.

    • @VEGASGIRL2013

I don't allow returns because I prefer to deal with buyers who know what they want. I want the buyers who are thinking they might return something to skip over my listings. Buyers who are looking for returns are people who are already indecisive and will look for reasons to return. I tested turning on returns and got returns on almost everything I sold for the dumbest buyers remorse reasons like "just dont like it" or "don't like the color" as if they couldn't see that before they bought it. I never have those types of return issues on Poshmark or Mercari because buyers are forced to think about if they really want something before buying it.

    • @down-the-rabbit-hole
      @down-the-rabbit-hole Рік тому

@@la6136 It's not really a matter of a buyer buying because they may want to return something. It's a matter of offering returns because ANYTHING can go wrong. Something could get damaged in shipping. Also, nobody is perfect, so anyone is capable of describing something and having the product not quite as it was described.
Also, unless it's clothes, maybe the item sent stops working a week after they buy it. I mean there are LOTS of reasons someone can return something, as lots of things can go wrong.
Like I said, I offer returns and have had only 1 returned item out of a little over one thousand, and that's hardly an inconvenience to me. The buyers have to pay postage when returning something and postage isn't cheap, so most aren't going to return something anyway.
I mean if your sales are great, then fine.....But I don't think anyone has a right to ever complain about slow sales if they AREN'T offering returns,...

Your mindset is why you are failing. You are not able to, or are not willing to, understand the root cause. Blaming isn’t going to do anything. Have a great day.

I looked up snarky. Critical, yes, in hopes that it helps people. Mocking, no.
