no one forced Frank to headline coachella. He should have just not signed that contract if he didn't want to perform. Getting paid millions to perform at coachella is a privilege, not a right. The least he could have done was show up on time
he was going to perform in 2020 and release a project but due to circumstances Covid hit and his brother died, he still has to fulfil the contract cause that’s just business.
@@wheezer860 wrong. Rage Against the Machine was also on the 2020 lineup. He had the option. If he didn't want to perform, he should have just said so instead of going up there an hour late and then having some DJ do half his set within that hour. Kanye also pulled out and they found a replacement.
Of course you can empathize with him, he must've had good reasons to do this performance the way he did, but man, whether you want or not, the truth is frank was up there doing his job, and man, if I get at my job and do it that poorly, I'd just be fired
This is incredibly well put! I think this is the ultimate distinction that a lot of people have issues seeing. Frank can’t be fired, he never will be; he clearly knows this and acts accordingly, even if it is at the dismay of his audience
This is interesting because so many gen Z young people literally brag about doing the bare minimum at work on TikTok. I do find it a bit hypocritical that they are so upset when they get the bare minimum from someone else providing a service/experience.
He did not take a huge time to speak to the audience, that’s flat out not factual, he straight up talked 2-3 times at most, and all he said was the thing bout his brother and that he has an album but won’t drop it now. Frank straight up disrespected his fans and people who waited so long to see him, I find it hard to empathize with someone who’s been supported heavily without putting out music for so long, nobody saying he needa drop or nothing but at least bro give your fans a decent show and don’t stream it if u want but just make sure the people who went for u get their moneys worth. I love frank but I would never support anything he puts out other than his music, since everything else he has released down to the vinyls it’s a shit show to even get it delivered. Great vid tho.
You provide a service (peformance) to your fans that paid o lot , you told them not to stream , you cancelled stage wasting man hours , if you didnt feel it cancel it but of course the bag was good soo...
he made a performance. he doesnt need to allow streaming to anybody. he paid the people. he felt the performance cuz he said how much coachella was important.
I love frank, pink matter is my fav song of all time. This is indefensible tho. The artist owes the ppl that paid to see him a good preformance. He got there an hour late Barely talk to the crowd Said that there's no album any time soon Played weird remixes instead of the originals Let a random kid sing a song Let a random ass Dj have a set in the middle of it (this is where we saw a security guard twerk for 15 min) Didn't sing nights or nikes he just danced around And cut the set short due to curfew These things are just unacceptable. If he wasn't ready don't preform. He said this was to honor his lil bro, this was a horrible way to honor him.
Bruh, we known new music was on the way. I mean he confirmed it fair enough that’s more than you could ever ask for as a Frank fan. But still, the it’s not about him being some “puppet,” or whatever. It’s about the fact that when you sign up for things and you say “yes” you have an obligation. Now, if you want to back out of that obligation that can happen, but you need to be clear about what you want. That’s called being an adult. We say yes or no to things, and we deal with the obligations that come along. Shit happens, yes of course. Frank injures himself, he’s also dealing with the stuff around his late brother and Coachella being one of those places they spent lots of good times together. (Again, makes me wonder why he said yes in the first place if he’s not emotionally ready to face that). But, that aside he realizes maybe that he can’t handle the 2nd weekend emotionally and it’s just too much. Just fucking say something then. Don’t give some bullshit excuse about your ankle. That’s just a slap in the damn face. Yes, capitalism dehumanizes people and turns them into products. Yes that’s inherently bad, yes that’s not great for artistry. Yes I do believe that Frank is combating that in the way he goes around his artistry and I applaud him for that. But he has to bear some responsibility for his actions. The fans are paying money and that’s literally how he lives. Whatever happens happens, but when he doesn’t give a shit enough to acknowledge the fact that people came there for him and he didn’t follow through on his obligations, that’s a big issue and it’s on him. It’s not on anyone else. It’s not on his ankle. It’s him. He’s the one that needs to own up to it, and at the very least he more communicative about where he’s at. That’s part of the responsibility that falls on him if he wants to ever sign up and do the performing side as an artist. Period.
I don't know what people expected or thought they were entitled to. As a casual Frank Ocean listener, the performance i saw on YT looked fine, more like an art performance than your regular concert, but again, what do you expect ? He's Frank Ocean afterall, and has always been on the more artsy side of things. Given his injuries, he should rather be applauded for pulling through. People complaining about an ice skate ring they didn't get to see when that's something they didn't even know was to be a part of the planned performance is beyond ridiculous. People and their entitlements in 2023 SMH
Imagine thinking it's entitled to pay good money and want a decent show. This fucker could piss into the crowd and you'd call it some artistic expression
I am like who are these new fans who expected him to not do weird shit during a performance? I think they all came from tiktok & have no idea who they showed up to see.
@@yslgyal4873 100% agree. Music and performance is art afterall, and artists are not service providers. It's funny how so many people not only feel entitled to whatever their idea of "entertainment" is, but also seem totally unable to get their head around anything as soon as it differs a bit from your typical "throw your hands in the air" party style performance.
He was super happy toward the end of the show - not sure why people are saying he didn’t want to be there. He looked nervous in the beginning. People are reading it wrong because they’re disappointed that he isn’t performing like a pop act would.
I saw Frank Ocean’s Coachella performance. Most media coverage about it isn’t accurate and lacks empathy. I won’t explain the full story because that would be exhausting. GQ wrote a solid article about it. It’s also sad to see how closed minded and one-dimensional people can be. The performance was beautiful and high level art.
No excuses. He gets paid too much for such a disappointment. If a person did their daily job that bad they’d be fired lol. Sorry. People paid to see a show that wasn’t delivered. End of story
