I’m a moto guy but if you want this to be something you need a hill. Like a ski slope would be pretty sick with some legit obstacles. This is a drag race on snow.

I thought you'd normally hold the flag up high and drop it or wave it down to start the race too
The reason for this is that they cant tell how the bike is going to take of.. Would not be the man laying in the snow with one of those tiers on me ;P And you need to have this in your mind, it is a new event in X-Games, so they didnt have the time to prepare it well enough :)

You do know when Harley first started they're the ones that invented hill climbs and dirt track racing
Games was never the same after they left staples center and after Travis Pastrana stopped doing best trick. I don’t even watch it anymore which sucks because it was big part of my childhood

The frame isn’t modified, they just take out the dirt bike motor and cram in a slightly less shitty version of a Harley v-twin. Basically they used dirt bike frames but Harley engines because Harley paid to have the sport put in the x games. Pretty sure if somebody showed up with maico 750 they would have smoked the Harley engine bikes.
I think your right let them have unlimited class and let some of the guys with 4 cylinders and nitro go up a steeper hill.
The frames are actually modified quite a bit, but they try to make them look as "stock" as possible.
Nitro wouldn't even run unless preheated big time in those temperatures

Elevated Action Sports, I would've actually had a little bit of respect for Harley if they would've at least let ESPN acknowledge the KTM Duke powered bikes, if only for a split second. Oh the almighty dollar...sucks a giant wang sometimes

What’s the point of the Harley Davidson engine in the bike besides the sponsorship? Why not have modified banshees, cr500’s, big bore machines etc

I’m a motohead and love everything 2 wheels. But this was stupid. Honestly could have been performed via remote control bikes and would have had the same affect. Disappointed.
I understand that this is event was done because of the Harley deal, and props to the riders for showing their stuff, but this was a pretty bland event. We already have snow bike and snowmobile racing, and now this is taking up space vs something really fun to watch like border cross.

Cool idea , the snow was to deep, need a solid ice hill, a couple jumps are then possible.
The fact that this is part of X-Games but things like Inline Vert are not just absolutely blows my mind.

My friend had a CR500. It was insanely fast. Out on the dirt flats by the Great Salt Lake was a great place to open it up!

Well you're PRETTY WRONG. I was being VERY kind. The famouse CR500 made only 55hp! The KX500 was the highest hp producing dirtbike ever in production and it made 63hp stock, modified it supposedly made 65hp. Furthermore the HD motors on nitro make above 200whp, I was being conservative. So there ya go, facts on the matter. Wow wasn't expecting to see someone from my hometown at xgames that's pretty cool. There's only like 10 of us in Montana so I probably know the guy...
The only race a Harley can win. One that is one of the silliest imaginable, and against itself!
Obviously completely oblivious of the enormous amount or racing bikes that are built around Harley engines that absolutely dominate the drag racing and hill climb world I guess. I remember when I was a teenager and I though that harleys were dumb and slow. Then I visited a drag racing event for about 10 seconds and learned that they’re extremely popular in serious racing.

More then double the hp, you're very wrong. they're 200hp at the rear wheel or more. Thats much more than 4x 53hp CR500 motocross engines at the wheel have.

Do they really deserve the same medals? It's a respectable sport but they are not nearly risking their lives like most are. Let alone there wasn't even a qualifier, these guys showed up for 30minutes and are walking off with medals. Maybe if there was 20 riders, qualifiers, and it was steeper it would have a better approval in my opinion.
Alex K it is an event so to say they don’t deserve metals is irrational. Of course a medal in snow climb is not as prestigious as a half pipe or whatever
We have to agree! This event was put together in less than a month.. there are many athletes that were capable of racing it, but given the time period and newness of the event, we understand why they just invited 8 for the TV space available.
This was disgraceful to the hill climbing community!!!

@ 2:19 ... as soon as I seen the difference in snow depth from their staging points I knew lauders was going to lose. It seemed as if one was launching in sand and the other on asphalt.
Hill climbing is cool, not really fair to call an entire community or sport lame because of XGames poor implementation. I know they wanted to get that paycheck from Harley Davidson, but a best 2 out of 3 at the very least would have been better.

That's what I meant when I said "XGames poor implementation." This is an incredibly poor and lazy implementation of the premise of hill climbing, and makes hill climbing as a whole look bad.

We have to agree. Covering this sport all the time, this exhibition definitely didn't give the sport much justice.. but it did give the athletes and bikes the best exposure we've gotten in decades!!

Andrew Snyder yea a lot of athletes work their asses off. Train, compete, and earn an invitation. Then they have to qualify and then score better than 8+ opponents. This is a respectable event but it doesn't deserve the same metals.

This event is dumb, boring and requires little skill but thinking that a 500cc 2 stroke engine could compete with a 2000cc + 4 stroke racing engine is just next level......ummm silliness just to be polite.
