  • Leaders from 36 countries recently met at a BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. The theme of the loosely defined geopolitical bloc's conference was "Strengthening multilateralism for Just Global Development and Strategy." Russia, the host, had hoped for a decision on an alternative payment system to the dollar. Summit participants were unable to agree on that point, but they had long discussions on many other subjects. Is BRICS becoming a geopolitical force to count on, or is it merely a talking shop? What can we expect for the future and what are the key priorities for the different member countries? Is there a more coordinated BRICS position on global affairs?
