  • The Sutta Nipāta (literally, "Suttas falling down") is a Buddhist scripture, a sutta collection in the Khuddaka Nikaya, part of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism. All its suttas, thought to originate from before the Buddha's parinibbana, consist largely of verse, though some also contain some prose. Some scholars believe that it describes the oldest of all Buddhist practices. Others such as Bhikkhu Bodhi and K. R. Norman agree that it contains much early material.
The Chapter on the Way to the Beyond consist largely of questions posed to the Buddha by 16 Brahmin students.
Translated by The Ven. Prof. Hammalawa Saddhatissa Maha Thera (1914-1990).

Incredibly beautiful how Lord Buddha leads us, step by step, out of Samsara with its 'fool's gold’, to go and reach the other Shore. 💖🙏

    Dear Samaneri
Like all seekers we need trust and confidence to stay on the path .This sutta with the myriad of questions that runs through our minds some time or another is so wisely attended by the Buddha's response .
I go over this video many times because the Buddha is pointing the way to the goal of our practice .No more rebirths .
I also appreciate the way you have projected the content with your well modulated voice and breaks....it gives me a chance to stop , sbe still and with awareness contemplate on the nothingness

    Dear Samaneri
As i listened to this passage , my faith and trust in the Noble 8 fold path is even more carved into my mind .There is a path to go beyond, to cross the ocean, to abide in the deathless realm even for a few minutes .
The Wisdom Master had laid the path , only the ones with courage, faith , discernment , willing to true to see our own clinging and attachment and work to cut the roots of defilement will be on the other shore .
Like a flame blown out by the wind
    With metta Sister

    So clear
Reminds me of a verse from the Bible:
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
***Rich with self-importance (attached to a story of me whether miserable or grandiose)
Indeed, only the meek can inherit the world.

Samaneri has introduced her audience to many of Buddhism's greatest literature and philosophy, treasures from practically every Buddhist school of thought in existence. But, as far as I know, she has not mentioned exactly what Buddhist tradition she belongs to. Is it a Theravada school or lineage like the Thai forest tradition, or does she belong to a Tibetan lineage, such as the Nyingma (literally 'old school')? Just curious, that's all. it really doesn't matter.I started decades ago studying Zen when I was a college freshman and as I became a more ardent meditator my curiosity in all things Buddhist increased two fold. I found out in those years that at the very core of all the distinctive Buddhist traditions, be they Theravada or Mahayana, are the same guiding principles, the Four Immeasurables, the Four Factors of Enlightenment, the importance of daily meditation, the importance of compassion, the power of liberation through emptiness, the Four Noble truths. Thus I have heard.

Yes, it is Theravada Forest Tradition Jeremiah - the lineage of Ajahn Chah and Sumedho. I have mentioned this before elsewhere but it would now be lost in the archives.
