People who dismiss Pharrell as some musician don't get how much impact he had on the fashion industry since the early 2000's
Impact don’t make you a designer. That don’t mean he understands fashion because he hasn’t studied it. It’s a hobby.
@@jayloncollins9681 fr, i wanna know how much HE will actually design himself with this collection etc
You mean those terrible hats?
Why do people think a creative director needs to design, like sit down and sew? Bernard Arnault, LVMH's CEO, has stated that the brand strategy is moving towards a becoming a cultural brand. They hire accordingly to their vision. And they've been doing great.
@@ejenn6639 does he need to design clothes to hold a CD role though? Can he not just curate a team of designers each season to execute his vision? I think it can be a really interesting move if its the latter
I approve this choice. For me Pharrell an unexpected but ideal successor to Virgil. He makes impactful yet elegant moves. Can't wait to see what he does.
Lol
I'm sure it will be good era. This choice is solidifies what Kanye said about LVMH buying the culture. Tiffany making thorns for Kendrick, having Beyonce and Jay Z as ambassador, collabing with Nike for black AF1. Nigo is in Kenzo. They own Fenty. Denim Tears has a collab collection with Dior. It's all calculated business choice.
Kanye was mad he didn’t get the job. Working with famous people is pretty standard.
One mf owns all LVMH too
They should've went with Martine Rose, Idk what they're smoking
what if he pays homage to her and brings her in for a quick collection like KIDSUPER
Idk what you are smoking
What are 10 reasons M. Rose would be your choice and why ?
Long time subscriber and I love the content but even more so the honesty u have. The fact u where able to admit how you didn’t see this coming just gave me even more respect. It’s the little things for me man appreciate the great content as always tho!
Virgil didn’t die unexpectedly. He died from a long battle with cancer, but to the public it was unexpected.
Pharrell is a fashion icon. He started so many trends including the preppy look that entered hip hop in the 2000s before Kanye West did. He switched up to high fashion for red carpets when other rappers wore baggy jeans. Created his own dual street fashion brands Ice cream and BBC plus started so many trends over the years. No to mention his other collaborations with LV including the sunglasses, films etc. Can't find a better choice if you ask me.
This is so true. He just gets it on all sides and nails it every time. Kanye is an icon in his own right but I honestly think him and Pharrell are on two completely different planets when it comes to fashion. Pharrell seems to understand it on a much deeper level.
I was very surprised to hear this news but honestly he’s one of the most creative people of the past 20 years I believe he will really change how we see Louis Vuitton fashion, can’t wait. Didn’t even think about this choice but I love it really really excited
30 years and yeah everything you said 🎉
You took the words right out of my mouth! 👏🏾 I can't wait.
I’m all about this decision. Pharrell is a legend and deserves all the love and praise. Child me is crying. This feels right.
You are confused. His past fashion ventures have been terrible.
Sorry to all the unknown black talent that went to design school for years and have been climbing the fashion career ladder that got passed over for this position, because they were not associated with a black celebrity or a black celebrity themselves.😢
This is a joke to me. The world is so backwards, confused and delusional.
I 100% agree. Someone styles him and they’ve been styling him for years.
You guys are supa clueless. If LV were so biased like yall think then Virgil wouldnt even have gotten the Job in the first place. Pharrel has put in work in many ways, created brands, provwn to be a tastemaker for both urban and highend brands and has the respect, experience and acument to push a bramd to multiple markets at the same time. This brother has been designing glasses, appeared in designer commercials from 20years back, put in work in many different ways in the fashion world. The role of Creative director has evolved with the times... At a time when a director can be working with multiple taylors and technicians to develoo pieces, all that is needed from a director is an astute vision for the brand and the leadership ability to steer a brand to success.. You can have people from designer schools and all that but lack the sheer innate ability to create things and get things moving. LV thought all this out from all angles and saw ot fit to gove him the job. He jist proved his critics wrong a few days ago on his debut showcase. Yall need to do more research before being cry babies out here on them youtube comments.
Some in the industry are saying that the 2023 Louis Vuitton collection fall-winter designer was suggested by Pharrell. Many are saying that because Pharrell is extremely adaptive at working with others whether it's in music or fashion he will probably do this when he's with Louis Vuitton bringing in other individuals to help curate the looks and things of that nature. But that he did bring in the gentleman you mentioned in this episode who designed the fall winter ready-to-wear 2023 men's collection
I actually like the men’s 23-24 collection
Great content
Always a pleasure watching your videos
I was really hoping it would be Pharrell, I can see him continuing to move things forward as Virgil did. Perfect successor IMO
Ok now I’m convinced that title is just a token head figure position, groundbreaking as it was for Virgil, Pharrell getting this role comes across as if they just want a black face in that seat
Exactly. And not someone who is a designer and talented. It’s gross. All the struggling and up and coming black designers in the world and they pick him. I doubt they would ever do this with a white celeb could you imagine the uproar if they put someone like Angelina Jolie at the head of Chanel?
Y’all wild. Can’t please black folk. And creative director is in no way shape or form the “head” of the company
I think people need to remember that "Creative Director" and "Head Designer" are simply two different jobs. Pharrell is the Creative Director at LV now, and he certainly has shown he has the skillset for the role. I actually recently made a video explaining why, but now that it's happened I do think Pharrell was the perfect candidate for the role. Just like you, the news initially shocked me though haha!
Idk about this. I've never liked Pharrell's other brands or his creative choices for certain things. But I'll wait and see what he cooks up before I judge. The potential is definitely there and I'm curious to see what direction menswear takes with him as Creative Director
Who even are you lol
@@palettown5468 damn bro cant share an opinion?
@@johnwright877 he can, but his opinion doesnt mean shit lol, i doubt he even is the target market for lv
Bro ur chattin
@@palettown5468 you sound defensive but for what? there's gonna be ppl who will love what pharrell will do with lv, some will be indifferent, and some will hate it. But whose to say which is right or wrong? Pharrell's creative choices are definitely unique and interesting-some good, some bad. But let's wait see what's gonna happen
another amazing video! thank you bro
thank YOU bro appreciate you
I think the fact that HIPHOP has fundamentally altered fashion in very deep and meaningful ways. Its high time people from the culture get to be directors in an industry that is so visibly influenced by the culture. I also like that the new directors don't come from that world give us new ideas and styles we are not exposed to otherwise. I want to see the emergence of more taste makers from all over to add a freshness that in my humble opinion has been lacking for some time. We are stuck in cycles of recycling styles from eras gone instead of creating new eras to come.
So happy for my guy!!!! Can’t wait
3:27 Oh shhh, I remember this page on his Spaces and Places I've Been book. Pharrell has always been dope!
Wow! I think Pharrell is going to do such an amazing job! 🙌🙌🙌
was waiting for this vid
My prediction, is that Pharrell Is going to be a nice, smooth transition for LV. Virgil was a close friend of his ofc and so i feel hell want to honor him and LV by really giving this his absolute best. To my knowledge hes never been a creative director before? But i do feel hes got some fantastic qualifications for this roll. His body of artistic work, musically and otherwise, and weather its your personal taste or not, is well rounded with many fantastic, truly innovative ideas and applications. Furthermore, hes been a very influential public figure for a long time now too. For those reasons and more, i feel he will find a way to honor/tribute Vrgils vision for LV but also bring his own fun twists on it. Fresh breath of air for the house of LV. I really cannot wait to see all the upcoming season shows now!! This will be interesting for sure.
Perfect choice! Pharrell has a genius sense of fashion style, hence his many fashion brands and collaborations he's already done. Including those with Louis Vuitton. 💯 He's not some musician off the street that they are handing over to LV.
Not to mention that everybody loves him.
great video, cheers fam
I can’t wait to see what Pharrell does with this opportunity and this platform, he made Gstar and every other brand he’s been apart of great I can only see good things coming from this
When it comes to new creative direction, theres a concept i like to think about. If you were to put a former creative director and a potential creative director in a room together to work on a project ( fashion related or not), would they work well together? Its not worth it to consider if this next creative director will make the brand profitable because if the potential creative director is compatible with the former creative director, then that means the potential creative director is compatible with the brand as well; profits will be inevitable.
So with that being said, its no debate that Pharell was a surprising decison, but when you consider how close Pharell and Virgil were to each other, its almost comforting to hear that Pharell will be taking over as he would be a good, if not great, extension of the brand. I genuinely cant wait to see his first collection.
...thanks for coming to my TEDx talk lol.
It just feels like they chose both Virgil and Pharrell because they wanted Kanye but didn’t want to deal with Kanye and so they chose people connected to him or who they felt are similar to him. Obviously I would not do business with Kanye either after everything he’s said and done recently, but still, it’s honestly offensive to me that they’re just throwing a Black rapper and producer in that role because it’s close enough to Kanye and they know it needed to pay homage to Virgil in some capacity or else they would’ve gotten pushback.
Pharrell is definitely a fashion icon, but being fashionable does not equate to being a fashion designer or a creative director of a fashion label. I’m tired of LMVH doing gimmicks instead of hiring real designers who understand the craftsmanship of clothing, especially menswear. Martine Rose or Grace Wales Bonner would’ve done a fabulous job.
this is a brave & wavy opinion.
l.v chose virgil & pharrell (may his soul rest in peace) only because they are within the vicinity of ye.
at this point of scale and without a strong voice (such as ye’s) i cannot imagine any major fashion house coming close to the quality of material and close-to affordable MSRP.
You think he is just fashionable?
He is one of the main precursors of high end street-wear. Co-founded Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. In 2004, collaborated with Louis Vuitton and Nigo under Marc Jacobs, for a sunglass collection under the name Millionaire. Virgil Abloh redesigned the glasses during his time in LV. Collabed with LV again in 2008, doing jewelry. First male to ever appear in a handbag campaign for Chanel. Spearheaded Chanel's first sneaker collab. Created the Chanel capsule collection in collaboration (and friendship) with Karl Lagerfeld. Partnered with Adidas for over a decade. Redesigned the NMD with Adidas. Created a collection for Uniqlo together with Nigo. Co-owner of G-star. Collab with Human Made.
@@aname206 Unfortunately the quality of the clothing from these luxury fashion brands has declined greatly precisely because people like Bernard Arnault (now the richest man on Earth) are mainly concerned with widening profit margins and turning out more product via ready to wear collections to appeal to a broader audience rather than limiting it to a couture clientele. I would be fine with that except that it seems the integrity of the brand has been lost to appeal to the masses and keep up with fast fashion and celebrity endorsements, which will always be a losing battle.
Choosing Pharrell as the creative director of menswear is a bad choice design wise but it’s a smart business move because it will increase the brand’s visibility and open the market to people who would’ve previously been excluded from the brand, but it’s for the purpose of exploiting his fan base. If they had chosen a legit designer like Martine Rose or Grace Wales Bonner, it would’ve been applauded by the fashion world and they would’ve made wonderful work, but it wouldn’t have made a huge splash to the hypebeasts and hip-hop fans Arnault wants to target and exploit for profit. It’s giving culture vulture to me and I’m not buying it.
@@sxt4447 yeah thank you for this bro. I’m sure you’ve heard or read about this book called “Deluxe: How Luxury Lost it’s Luster by Dana Thomas - which depicts why the lack of craftsmanship and focus on scale has destroyed the timeless of the certain fashion houses.
The realized the classism aspect of fashion has been an issue since Yeezus lol.
Creative director : someone who naturally knows wholl get the influence on which designs and make the brand part of the industry culture❤
I cant wait to see what he has in store for us. Great pick by Louis Vuitton
Cannot wait to see what he comes up with.
FABULOUS!! CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE MEN’S SUMMER LINE. Coin is ready🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Rip Virgil you will always be remembered 🙏🏻
I wasnt expecting it either, you had some good guesses tho
Can you make a history video about Roberto Cavali please?
i Get excited when I see your notis
Threaducation with another banger
I totally agree! Whoever doubts his creativity and ability to lead this House should dig deeper into fashion. You missed a lot! Fashion IS _...to many and most it's Art. Pharrell Williams IS an ARTIST. PERIODT. ♥️ the Convo.
" OmG What happened to Virgil " R.I.P Virgil a true Legend...💐💯💐
Wow!Exciting!!!!
"Not Souja Boy" lmao 😆🤣😭
Nice presentation +🎼🎶
I’m definitely surprised but I see the vision and why he was the final decision. I do think Pharrell has the potential to succeed Virgil and keep LV’s current theme and aesthetic while bringing his own ideas and identity to the brand. I’m nervous because I wasn’t the biggest fan of Pharrell’s past projects, but he has the financial and creative backing of a major fashion house which can allow him to bring better ideas into fruition.
Nervous but open minded
He's always been an elegant dresser and a suave personality. He's really amazing.
As someone from Virginia Beach too, it’s so inspiring to see what he’s been able to achieve. It truly makes me feel like big things can happen in small places
He's just picking up where he left off fr. Long Live Virgil.
Wished it was Martine Rose but i love Pharrell so its a win regardless
AWESOME 👌
Big newssss 🙌🏻
I think just time will show how relevant will the collections be. On thing is you have collaborations and fine taste. Another is, you really bear it career wise, having knowledge of the technique, been responsible for a strong department. He is a good pick because of his grip of fashion trends but there are out many good awarded choices… I think he got picked due to his namesake as strong as Virgil became.
Yesss Pharrell 👏 congrats! 🥳 VA beach all day!! I remember he use to ride around in his Phantom with his stuff animals in the back window... nothing but, nice things to say about him and he deserves everything good including his direction for LV.
Great choice 👌 ❤
Not surprised at all. I don't know anything about fashion but Pharrell is fresh as hell. I remember watching Drop it like it's Hot on MTV at like 12 and learned that he had a shoe brand called "Ice Cream" and I wanted a pair so bad haha. He'll kick ass at that job.
So proud of Pharrell, he's the one to watch!❤️
I am so excited that he’s the new creative director. Marc Jacobs did AMAZING things, and now I’m interested again.
Congratulations 🎉
Virgil was a designer. He could sketch and sew clothes. He was professionally trained. So many deserving designers out there and I love Pharell but I’m bummed that the next “Virgil” wont get a chance.
im sure they'll get their chances somewhere somehow
Pharrell is the pioneer of modern-day street style. His impact is undeniable.
He inspired Virgil and Ye, he is actually THE GOAT
Don’t sleep on Pharrell, this brother contributed to hip hop like little Richard did to Rock&roll
Can't wait to see what he brings to the House of LV.
Pharrell also comes with more clout than anyone on this list, and with the trend on commerce leading towards influencer lead brands; Pharrell is the safest bet out there. He has this clout on both sides too! Deep ties with Adidas so Adidas x LV collars are gonna be insane. I said it!
Dude Pharrell is one of the goat when it come to music and fashion. I'm glad he took over because everything he touch seem to turn to gold honestly.
He's gonna be _brilliant_ . It's Pharrell. He's gonna kill it.
Congratulations
Pharrell made the Adidas tennis HU’s man’s beyond talented
The Little Prince ✨ It makes sense.
Best pick possible imo
Oh wow, I am more into music and streetwear then in high fashion I must admit. But I think this is really an interesting and brave choice. I think he could make something really interesting out of it. And I am very curious 😊
Yay! Good girl, u know I want it
Unexpected but not a surprise
Should’ve been Martine Rose
I knew my guy was coming through with a video
I still can't get over yet with Haider Ackerman Gaultier show. He brought back real fashion. Understated, expensive looking. 😘
I would love to see what Pharrell can do to LV .
He is perfect and talented 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 plus he seems to be a good human being
What song was the piano playing on the background
Nevermind Bria’s interlude
It broke my heart when I heard colm dillane didn’t get the spot
Im excited for what he will do 🙀
For LV, it's as long as you can move handbag sales for them.
Perfect choice.
As much as Pharrell has been around Nigo and the fashion circuit it makes sense.
Nah didn’t Pharrell’s Fashion lines fail? Yeah he had some collabs but I don’t think any of his clothing are worn by anyone. Also doesn’t have a stylist and been had one from jump? I’m confusion. What about people who went to school for fashion? Welp as long as you’re famous right?
Pharrell was a great business decision in regards to branding❤
he will nail this shit i am sure
Should be interesting
I love Pharrell
i know what to expect. pharrell will release pieces that are colourful
Bro is strolling around casually as if he doesn’t have an assortment of goblins on his head 😂 WTAF
Congrats to Pharrell.
🔥🔥🔥
Hoping Pharrell Great Success in his new role .
Insane
Wonder if LV is adding cowboy hats
It’s a surprise, but it makes sense.
Although this choice was a surprise, I'm very interested to see what his debut collection will look like.
This is an unpleasant suprise.
I've never liked Pharrell's other brands or his creative choices but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he is successful. He is not a designer with the technical skills and stamina to design and pull together a major collection that LV Men's requires. However, LV needs someone to take up the creative genius of VA to remain relevant in today's competitive fashion world.
I think study is definitely far from theory
Pharrell is perfect as a designer.
I think that they wanted a comparable to Olivier Rousteing.
Pharrell 🧡
