I love your thumbnail 😂😂 The bag looks 100x better, great job 👏 👍 can't wait to watch the other's videos. I have a vintage Madewell tote that was very dry and in much need of conditioning. The best one out there is Jack George's leather Lotion. It works so good! My tote is so much more soft and supple.
Beautifully done, Autumn! I love vintage Dooney, and Bone is my fav color! The DB fob is from the older lines, the duck came a bit later. After watching this, I’m going to need to carry my large Essex this weekend!
The Duck hang tag is the earlier version of DB and it BD initial DB hang tag is the current version. Loved this video and you did a great clean up job.
Kudos to you refreshing the AWL DB bag. It's my humble understanding that the duck logo was introduced specifically for the AWL collection representing the durability when it gets wet, similar to when the ducks get wet and the water just rolls off. Now ... what are your plans with the restored DB???
Great video collab idea! Good to learn about Brasso. I rehabbed a $20 grungy purple Kate spade a little while ago and it came out gleaming. Gave me the restoration bug.
I've heard Dooney AWL does not handle dunking well, so I haven't done it. Great job overalll! There's a good Dooney rehab thread on Purse Forum. The DB logo either means the bag is older, or that the hangtag is not original. In the 80s and maybe 90s, the DB tag was used on pieces that aren't all-weather leather. I find the bridle trim responds well to a few coats of leather CPR followed by a careful application of Blackrock (which should not go on the AWL) I've found that when those post-and-slit thingies are difficult to open, a bit of Leather CPR on a q tip softens the leatger enough to prevent damage.
This was a really fun and interesting video! Makes me want to take better care of my existing bags, and I will keep my eye out at thrift shops and perhaps pick up an old, grungy bag someday!
You did a great job, Autumn. Very cool bag! FYI, attended a wedding in Oregon this past weekend at the Allison Hotel & Spa. Did a cruise all around Lake Oswego on a friend’s boat as well. Beautiful place! 🎉🌟
Try using a bar of Ivory soap, a tooth brush, a bowl of water and lots of rags. Very little soap, dampen, rub, wash off, repeat. Should get it cleaner without ruining it. Just don’t use too much soap or water. Bicks and Cadillac are the best cleaners and conditioners I have found. You did an excellent job!
Hi Autumn the bag looks great with the short time you had to rehab it! I wouldn’t worry too much about the inside of it. I love the collab you guys did! Everyone did so great on their bags! TFS! ❤👜✨
I wish I could like this video more than once.I love, love these types of videos and with your artists' eye and creativity I knew you would do a amazing job- and YOU GOT A DOONEY!!!!!
Autumn, I’m really impressed with your knowledge about bags, as always, and what you did with this bag. That back pocket just about got me and not in a good way! 😂 Nicely done! I’d love to rehab a bag with you sometime.
I have NO IDEA why the back slip pocket on any bag I get is always filthy and FILLED with gunk 🤢!! It's always dirtier than any other pocket! 😆 Very nice and rewarding rehab! Love these Dooney bags, the vachetta piping may need something a little heavier for conditioning to get it closer to the original finish.
Good job Autumn.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’ve always wondered if you can use a stronger cleaner on the leather? I’m thinking like Vim or something similar. Of course it may destroy it!!!!!! I just thought it would brighten it up.
I love these videos Autumn. Was there ever a bag you bought that was so bad it actually make you feel sick & you had to dump it? Any that were meant to be good (and above) condition that were just totally write offs?
Dooney & Burke! I heard from a D&B afficianado that D&B will repair their bags. They're in Norwalk, CT, and every December, they have a major warehouse sale.
That’s a great quality bag! Now you see the beauty of solid brass hardware. I absolutely would not dunk it. I would condition it all with Blackrock, especially the piping. I think I would ultimately paint the piping to conceal the rubs. I have quite a few vintage Dooneys. I bought my first in 1975.
You can get color cream for leather and buff the color back into that cream colored leather. Also glycerin saddle soap cleans much better. Well done though ! I love restoring leather bags ❤
I think you did a great job. I would try Neatsfoot oil on the piping. It may darken the leather, but that's probably fine because of it's age. Also, I'd try dunking the bag. It works as long as it's unlined. Many people do that with Coach. That would probably clean up the interior quite nicely. I have Bickmore suede/nubuck cleaner, but I use that on spots since it's a spray.
You are a brave woman. That was once a beautiful bag, but it is a mess. It looks like it spent a few years in an attic or garage. My whole body is itching watching this video! I've seen people completely dunk Coach bags in soap and water to clean. I wonder if that can be done with Dooney. Oh now you are talking about dunking! Please let us know if you ended up doing that later. It really could come out perfect after that. The brass looks so much better. Back in the day Coach would replace the trim for free. I'm not sure whether Dooney ever offered that. Great video Autumn. Love the concept of saving old quality bags. xoxo
I worked in a department store back in the late 80s, and the Dooney and Burke representative brought in a bucket full of water and submerged the bag, to show the quality of the bag.
I recognized it as vintage Dooney. If you are looking to freshen up the trim, Angelus makes a leather paint called Vachetta which very closely matches the color on vintage D&B bags.
I think the metal hang tag with the duck on it is an older one as opposed to the metal tag with DB on it. Going on what little l know. I have the Calvary belt bag in white that is a miniature of the two bags you have. I think you did a spectacular job of cleaning up that bag!
You did an awesome job! Hint: Goo Gone will probably get the pen marks out. I’ve used it before and it worked, but that was on fabric. It should work here. I love this style. I want an All Weather Leather bag, I think they are so classic.
The DB fob is older than the duck logo; from what I learned on DB online is that if a bag has a torn tag that it was bought at an outlet and if the tag is missing it means that a db employee most likely bought it; I learned this because I'm a handbag reseller and I sold a few Dooney pieces and I'm also a Dooney collector...
I have some older Dooneys and wish I knew how to fix the corner wear and I still haven’t got the answer. Your rehab bag is from the 80s or 90s with that hangtag. Great job Autumn.
The DB hangtag is older than the duck one. My mom has the older style hangtag on her purse. I think she bought it somewhere around the late 80s/early 90s. I don't know when they changed, but by 1994 they definitely had the duck because I bought a bucket bag at that time.
Autumn, just a tip for future rehabs. Sunshine cleaning cloths work miracles! Instead of Brasso, it does not get stuck in the hardware. Just makes jobs easier. ❣️🌺
💖👑👑💖🎬📽🎥WOW this bag looks Beautiful wow the brasso is amazing it really dose work .great job Autumn its a Beautiful bag .l enjoyed this Video very cool 😊
I know for sure the smaller one with the duck logo fob and made in USA TAG is from the 1990’s. Dooney was my first designer bag I bought around 1994ish. I made around 6 dollars an hour back then so a 200+ bag was a huge deal. I babied that bag and still have it and it looks like new. I ended up buying 2 more around the 1990’s and I still own all three. I don’t carry them anymore and haven’t for 20 or more years but I won’t sell them either. Technically you are never supposed to condition the old Dooney bags but I can see why you did about was used very roughly. I think you did a good job with the restoration, a little more TLC and she would probably look close to new. Maybe a little tan shoe polish on the trim would bring out the color better.
The smaller bag looks like the strap has been cut to make it shorter. The tell tale sign is where the buckle sits on the strap. It's right on your shoulder which isn't normal. They are cute bags though............Tammy
It looks good! You could probably get the ink out with a stain devil ( comes in little yellow bottle). I think it would be worth it to clean that suede up. I really like both bags.
This was really satisfying to watch. That Brasso is a bit of a miracle worker! Shame it would take the 'metal colour' coating off the hardware of some modern luxury bags... Yeah, I said it! 🤣
Vintage dooneys are great bags, i went down that rabbit hole a couple months ago and bought too many lol. Amazing bags tho, solid brass and thick luxe leather. Ok back to watching!
I know from experience, the bigger bag is from around 1980-1990 era. That is why the hang tag is different. The duck hang tag came later. That is still the current tag today. As far as D&B is far better English leather than coach ever thought of being. It’s amazing. It’s why I have so many of them from vintage to present. They are superior to LV in my opinion. You are holding a leather bag that is at least 35-40 yrs old. Look at that leather!! There is a restore leather conditioner that I e seen winnieblv use. Ask her about it. It looked promising.
Hey Autumn, this is completely off topic but do you still have your coach black quilted melody bag? If you’re downsizing I’d love to buy it! Vicky Zogg
I honestly don’t know what some people do to their bags. I’ve never seen a Dooney like that but it could be one of their first bags. I’m not an expert although I’ve been in love with the brand for years. My first thought was it wasn’t authentic but I honestly don’t know that for sure. Ive only seen the duck emblem on the fob. The $34 price is shameful. And whoever sold that at that price should be ashamed. Especially if they sold a fake D&B. I think you did a good job, Autumn.
Autumn, the Cavalry bag should have had a duck fob, not that other DB thing that was hanging from the bag you restored. The Cavalry bag should also have had a red, white, and blue tag like the smaller bag. There should at least be evidence of it having been there and cut off, but I don’t see that. You may have put all that effort into a fake. 😢😮
Love how to make old things new and breathe life to them. Great job 👏🏼
Nice job!! It was fun watching everyone's take on this. :-)
Oh wow. Looks great! Fun video, thank you! ❤❤❤

I second all of these👆.

Hi Autumn, nice job. I have a D&B bag that is 30 years old. When the edge got a little worn I used a little Vaseline on it. Works great
Autumn, I’m really impressed with your knowledge about bags, as always, and what you did with this bag. That back pocket just about got me and not in a good way! 😂 Nicely done! I’d love to rehab a bag with you sometime.
Wow! Great job! And you picked a super hard bag color. I love love vintage Dooney.
Good job!☺😉🌠🌼🍀
Beautiful job! I would try Crayola crayon on that piping. 🌻

How do I comment without spoilers? Are you taking offers on the shoulder bag? Let a friend know. Just loving it! Sweet work.
💜💜💜💜 Latina 💜💜💜💜
What a fun challenge. You all did so well.
Autumn! That’s a beautiful transformation!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
good evening autumn🌈🌞🦋💚🦋

Great job on this rehab. It is super hard to get a lighter color bag cleaned up as well as you did…..Love both bags!!!
Love this video idea!

WOW it
Turned out amazing ,the saddle bag is gorgeous ,I have the equestrian dooney vintage bag and love it
Thanks for sharing

Great job
You did an amazing job recovering that bag! I like that shape.
That bag was nasty but I was mesmerised watching you work your magic! Great edit it was an easy watch! Now what will you do with it?
You did an awesome job! Hint: Goo Gone will probably get the pen marks out. I’ve used it before and it worked, but that was on fabric. It should work here. I love this style. I want an All Weather Leather bag, I think they are so classic.
DB hang tag is newer and replaced the more expensive, heavier brass duck tag. No idea why the id tag would be missing.
Nice DB bag. The more vintage DB items are my favorite. Love the video, Autumn ❤

What did you use to clean the white outside ? Just water ? I have a D& B in the same color that needs cleaning.

Nice job!
You did a great job Autumn.. you can get some leather dye or even paint too touch up on the bag trim..makeup brushes are good too use as so small.
Love them 😊 if you put them in a sale, I’d be interested 😊
I worked at Dillards in the handbag dept in 95...we sold Dooney, Coach, Oroton...and a few other brand names...
Autumn, just a tip for future rehabs. Sunshine cleaning cloths work miracles! Instead of Brasso, it does not get stuck in the hardware. Just makes jobs easier. ❣️🌺
excellent!
I’ve had ink come out with hairspray, spray and let it sit awhile. Might have to do it a couple of times.
It looks great! I recently got a vintage bag by this same brand and the quality is so good
💖👑👑💖🎬📽🎥WOW this bag looks Beautiful wow the brasso is amazing it really dose work .great job Autumn its a Beautiful bag .l enjoyed this Video very cool 😊
That bag looks great. Looks like a lot of fun and very satisfying! Dooney bags are made to last, for sure.
I love Dooney & Bourke! Really enjoyed seeing you bring new life into this bag.
It’s a Dooney? Ahhh I was right!!!
Looks really good and it’s a cool
Bag!! Great job Autumn!!
Awesome job Autumn! Those are Botha beautiful vintage Dooneys. TFS and good luck! Xoxo 🥰
I think you did an amazing job! Bravo!
You did a great job with that bag. D&B is one of my favorites,
If I remember I’ll write about the Dooney Handbag. Job well done
Fantastic job. Not a magic eraser on the rehab 😂❤site.
Also love the trick idea! ❤

Good job at cleaning the hardware!
Very impressed with the brasso. Very cute bag
Since the suede lining is a very light color, I wonder if you could use hydrogen peroxide to brighten it? 🤔
Great Job Autumn you did a great job!! 🛍️👛🙏🚢
vintage Dooney and yes that is the white from back in the day
That bag looks awesome! You really did a great job!
Those dooney bags are indestructible ! Can’t wait to see how it cleans up
It looks great x
Interesting challenge. 👜
It’s a Dooney, I’ve been looking forward to this challenge watching now. 👛🛍️🙏🚢
Brasso is a miracle worker! It’s saved several of my vintage bags.
I love the vintage Dooneys! Just purchased a vintage doctor bag.
Autumn ❤ it turned out so amazing ❤ I love it
Dooney & Bourke! I know those particular pebbled leather look!! ❤
so nice it look so great love dooney and Bourke bags

This is an absolutely amazing silhouette !
I really hope they bring this one back !
I'd be ordering faster than the speed of lightening !
C’mon Autumn…you don’t have a dremel tool? What’s a house without a dremel tool? Wow, that brasso worked so well. It cleaned up nicely. Good job. 😊

Good job. I would have worn gloves though when touching the yuk and chemicals!
What a great idea for a video, I think the bag turned out pretty good👍🏻😁will you use it🤔
Just an FYI Autumn, nothing cleans brass like Ketchup does! Put it on and just wipe it off! Then wipe with clean wet cloth!
Argh, my OCD!!! 😱
Cute little bag though!
Great contest, I love Doony & Burke. It’s all about the duck
