Thanks for the clear, informed advice - it's been very helpful. And special thanks for holding up ROM. I actually found this particular video of yours when searching for your name and ROM, because after seeing it so many times in the background, I had to figure out what it was. I thought it was an early video game, but a '79 comic book is even better.
Hey Rob, I just wanted to let you know I have family members that use the Fidelity card for the rewards and they signed up during the $150 cash back bonus time. So far they have loved the card and it has just added a little more to their Roth IRA without them thinking about it. They have special offers occasionally that seem to be random (potentially based on spending habits) that offer additional paybacks. My parents get an extra $10 back per month by setting up their utilities up on autopay. That is on top of the 2% bonus! After talking with them, they mentioned that sometimes they would just use the cash back to pay towards their other reward cards. With the Fidelity card however, the cash back is invested (minimum of $25 before redeemable) and they sort of forget about it. After looking at their account, the cash back has built them a little extra spending money for retirement that they didn't expect!
I like the long format. Mostly because u do a great job of selecting good questions and topics. I only tune out when u talk about retirement distributions
Hi Rob, I think a really good topic for discussion would be portfolio setup (where to hold the portfolios) and management to minimize taxes and maximize Social Security as we your viewers move toward retirement. Topics such as 401k conversion ladders into Roth IRAs, dividends in taxable and non taxable accounts, controlling income from side hassles or businesses etc to stay under income/tax/SS earnings limits. I think these are areas that are just as, if not more important as the distribution strategy. Maybe have guests to talk about these topics? White board these out?
@robberger. I just watched the Paul Merriman UA-cam video on their new configurator tool you should review that on one of your Q&A‘s. It would be fun to hear our community’s feedback on the tool once you share it out. It looks really interesting I didn’t use his tool his Google sheet tool prior but this tool looks really interesting on how to configure your portfolio.
I would suggest keep the 1.5 hour format AND repurpose any thought leadership into a short vignette or two, doubling your content out there and satisfying those that can’t sit through the fuller format. Hopefully more you tube money for your efforts also.
Thanks for this. I was pretty excited about it, but here's the fine print: "3 Points per dollar accrual rate is a promotional value and expires on 12/31/2022, at which time points will accrue at 2 points per dollar."
@@rob_berger I hear you, but I'm pretty sure they said the same thing last year. I've had the card for a year, and when I first got it I spoke with one of their reps about it being a promo rate and he said something to the effect of it's continuously listed as a promo rate with an expiration date but management just keeps it going at 3% and it seems to be indefinite. Maybe this will be the year that they drop it to 2%, but for now I'm lovin' it.
You wash sale comment require a qualifier. Not all retirement account falls under wash sale rule. Only IRAs, traditional and Roth. Employer sponsored retirement accounts like 401k does not fall under wash sale.
Your approach to building habits in your daily workflow sounds like it is based in positive reinforcement theory. After one performs a desired behavior a stimulus is given reinforcing the previous action. The trick is to make sure whatever the stimulus is given the subject actually ENJOYS it. Also the sooner the stimulus is given the more effective the reinforcement. Maybe you get to check to the stock market right after you finish your workout. You check your UA-cam stats immediately AFTER reading 25 pages. Make sure you actually enjoy the reward or the behavior will decrease. Spanking your kid for acting up doesn’t work if they enjoy being spanked (negative reinforcement theory).
One thing I was confused with the Savebetter NO pelanty is the fact that if you liquidate it, you have to liquidate the entire thing. So for a large amount my guess is that it will be better to buy single smaller amounts so a partial liquidation is possible? Is this correct? I emailed save better a few days ago and waiting for a reply. I think others might be interested in this.
Rob, can you review Vanguard’s new offering and the overall concept of a group of diversified very low cost professionally managed funds that are more volatile but expected to outperform the indexes over a 10 year period of time. I believe this is something just being offered to their personal advisory service clients of which I am one. I can email you the list of funds if needed. Love the content, thanks!
It takes such humility to call out your biggest mistake that way, turned into a learning opportunity. That's why I love Rob!

Very good info but long winded. Any possibility of splitting content by specific topic? Didn't have time to wait for 'biggest investing mistake '.

We keep all emergency cash in Vanguard Money market brokerage easier to track. Plus our IRA & Roths are there.
TSP is in the process of adding mutual fund marketplace, but the fees are kind of high (to me).
The yield on money market fund is net of the expense ratio, so you can effectively ignore the expense ratio when comparing them.
I like this current format
Rob, thats what we call content arbitrage in the business. Do it, even if its 30 secs you can use it in shorts which reaches more people than videos.
Terminal List with Chris Pratt is excellent.

The best flat rate rewards card I've seen is the Visa from US Alliance Financial Credit Union. It pays 3% cash back on everything.

Until they sell it to a certain number they’ve chosen for revenue threshold then prob drop it. Just a guess.
Nice chair

Fidelity rewards visa deposits $300-$450 a year into my Roth instead of all the stupid credit rewards
make a3 videos, making a portfolio with aggressive and getting high returns, mid and lower safer.

Where did you get that notepad?
It's called Field Notes: fieldnotesbrand.com/
Hey @robberger - Ally savings is now up to 1.75, Best Sarah

That's true of all CDs. Think of them as lump sum in and lump sum out.

Can you reply with a link to Vanguard that describes the new offering? I want to make sure I'm looking at the right thing.
I can send the PDF but don’t have your email
