I met Frank in 2005 while I washiking the Appalachian Trail, he is a consummate musician and gentleman. One of my favorite memories from the whole trip was hearing Frank play Ice Cold NuGrape... he is an American treasure, to be sure.
Lovely fretless... and real cool syncopation on Old Hen... gotta learn that one... thanks for sharing! (Oh... and a beautiful backdrop... we hope to movin' back east to Ashville, NC in a year or two.)
What a great sound, and playing. I've always wondered about Frank's right hand, which looks like it attacks the strings at a different angle--the side of his middle finger?--than most of us do--with his forearm almost in line with the strings. Does anybody know if he discusses this anywhere, e.g. in his Homespun DVD? It sure produces a nice sound.
BAck for another visit : Love the drop thumb lead alot .. Great sounding banjo Jeff and wonderful playing as always Frank .. I have been playing a lot of wider necks latley .. I just put a four string nut on my OT 6 GTone to try a 1 &9/16ths nut with Nylgut playing ... I love it a ton .. My friend David Oakes made me two banjos with cut down STratacaster necks both at 1.5 and they are so much fun to play .. How wide is Frank's frettless at the nut ? I also play really tall bridges too... All the best , Guy
Frank, thanks for that instruction. Nice tune to add to my repertoire. Tell Jeff that banjo sounds great with you playing it. Great dance tunes.
