I really miss Osborne lights. Used to work in that area and visited it OFTEN.
That was the best!
Tom, you are100% correct about the Christmas decorations in the parks. We miss beautiful decorations of the past.
We used to receive free roasted chestnuts as we walked into POFQ. 30 years ago. FREE! While be sung to by carolers. It was glorious. It has been a steady decline.
My dad talked about one of the first time his family visited when he was a teen in the 80s. They stayed and the contemporary after thanksgiving and the entire property became Christmas overnight. He talks about how magical it was and I can’t help but be jealous he got to experience that.
I was lucky enough to see one of the last years Osborne was running when I was little but man…
We miss Osborne lights. Much rather have them than Galaxys Edge anyway. We were there for the last lights and it was very special to our family.
I am Jewish and do not celebrate Christmas at all, but the thing I always wanted to do but missed was running the marathon up to the dream lights castle. To me it had nothing to do with Christmas but running down main street to that castle and getting your empty castle picture with that version would have been epic
I feel bad for the audio only listeners of the podcast, because they missed the look Tom gave to the camera at 1:03:32
Tom's face when Eric said, "one of the greatest scientific achievements of all time" 😂😂 I do agree with Tom though that Spaceship Earth certainly was!!!
“I’d rather live in a world without Star Wars galaxies edge, then to have Osborne family Christmas lights for only eight weeks out of the year.” as a massive Star Wars fan I one hundred percent agree.
Yea im definitely going to disagree with that one. That was a wild take.
My family misses the Jolly Holiday dinner show that was held at the Contemporary Convention Center, a great family style dinner with a surrounding Christmas show performance. We first attended in 1992. I miss the Animal Kingdom Christmas Parade and the Grand Floridian Poinsettia Christmas Tree. The Country Bears Christmas Show was great but one of my best memories was when my kids first saw the Castle Lights, that was special. We attended a Very Merry Christmas Party one year and got back to the AKL very, very late only to discover a work crew in hard hats assembling the Christmas Tree, amazing! Loved waking up to a fully decorated resort.😊
No more Osborn or Dream Lights for you but Disney's ABC has aired "The Great Light Fight" successfully for twelve seasons because people LIKE CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAYS!
I totally agree with the MK main street overhead wreaths...were beautiful!
Your 100% right about the Osborne Spectacle of Lights…I still have conversations with people I’ve never met who misses it and upset about it being gone! Many memories made…I just had a conversation with a stranger while waiting at MCO for the transportation bus about it a few weeks ago. Yes, it’s Silver Dollar City….it’s very reminiscent and a lot of the exact same decorations as Osborne. Again, love this podcast…you say a lot of things we as fans say or at least have thought! Keep ‘em coming! Happy New Year to all of WDWNT and followers 😊♥️👍
Everything you are saying is so true!!!
I am surprised they haven't tried to bring Osborne lights to Disney Springs. It would bring people who would spend money. I am so glad we got to see it when we did.
Not enough parking
Our son was a cast member at Hollywood in 2014 and worked the Osbourne lights. When Feliz Navidad came on he would have so much fun. Did the dance every time it came on. When we were visiting him for Christmas and that started, a cast member asked me to join in. It was at the end of the night and Santa Goofy was dancing with them as well and he was grooving, adding a hip hop type vibe to it. My husband got it on video and I will still sit down and watch it. It was so special and some of the most fun we have ever had.
I really love this show you guys! Thanks for working so hard !
roasted chestnuts are soooo *good!* The only time they're not is if the chestnuts themselves are bad or something...🤔
I agree with Tom. I would trade the Osborne lights for Galaxies edge.
YES! The garland & wreath on Main Street!
Loved the ‘Lights of Winter”…Osborne, castle lights….of the World has gone dark…
You guys forgot about the Peace on Earth ending to Illuminations
Was in WDW from 12/16 to 12/21. And I saw ERIC on that Saturday afternoon at the Contemporary Grand Concourse! Anyway, the Very Merry XMas party on 12/19 was wonderful, but we so missed the Dream Lights. Disney STOP BEING SO CHEAP. As Tom mentioned, this is not about change, it's about getting something worse. Overall, great visit, we missed the peak holiday crowd.
Never got to see the Osbourne Lights lit up, but to stand in front of the Castle with the Dreamlights was the definition of Breathtaking. The Christmas Tree trail at Disney Springs is a nice added holiday tradition. It was rather lame the 1st year, but Disney really brought their game up the next year. We saw Billy Ocean for an amazing EAT to the Beat concert and Little Richard as well. He was well into his 70s and needed to be escorted on stage. But when he sat at the piano, he commanded the whole audience to the end. We'd just arrived in Fla and headed straight to the park. I was still in my jeans and near to passing out from the heat, but man oh man, what an experience. Great show guys, Happy New Year. LaurieO
I love all your content, WDW team, but the podcast has quickly become my favorite. Keep up the amazing work!!
WDWNT best channel
Happy Holidays and ty for releasing a new podcast to enjoy! Great topic. Could you ever do a topic about how your park tastes have changed since the old days? I know you've touched on it throughout these podcasts. Wonderful work as always!
Osborne lights was great because it was magical. My kids were in strollers, my dad, my wife and I couldn’t help but be happy. We went so many times in 2015. For a place that tries to be magical, it doesn’t know what magic is
Ive been obsessed with osborne and now lights of winter but the most Christmas thing im liking is the extint matterhorn bobsleds star
I still have my Osborne lights reusable cup & exactly why I won’t do jollywood nights
I miss the Christmas lights on Cinderella castle and the Osborne Family lights. Christmas isn't as good at WDW since.
I always loved watching the Disney Twelve Says Of Christmas Sing-A-Long! Hip Hop Noel and He Delivers were my jams :D Imagine they brought these songs back in a Jollywood Nights Show lol
Fun story on the subject of going to WDW because of what band is playing. What I'm pretty sure was the first time my parents took me to Disneyland coincided with a concert by "Paul Revere and the Raiders" (who had been my Mom's favorite band) on the Rivers of America.
I remember. the County bears christmas around 2006 I loved it. I also remember the lights in Hollywood studios in 2002 being on all the houses ( Golden Girls ect) that you could walk pass.
Merry Christmas to y’all 🎄
New Kids on the Block still go on tour and sell out!
Osborn should have never been deleted. Completely changed the Christmas experience at the parks.
What's odd is that they said we couldn't have the Dream Lights because it was too expensive, but then Disneyland got them. Granted, Sleeping Beauty's castle is smaller than Cinderella's, but is it THAT much smaller that it made a difference? I'm glad I get to see them at all, but... still. Also, the Christmas stage show now will never compare to the Celebrate the Season show in the early 2000's in my opinion.
Disneyland has had them just about as long as we have
I totally agree with you, I really miss the Osborne lights. I don't understand why Disney can ignore the attraction that show had for their guests. Maybe they don't do it because they can't charge extra for it.
As someone who never got to see any of these things you talk about in person it just makes me sad and I wish I'd seen them for sure. Also as a huge star wars fan with as underwhelming as galaxy's edge is I agree without ever seeing Osborn lights.
Give me Dreamlights and Wishes during Christmas. They can have their projection shows the rest of the year.
1:20 I wore my NKOTB Xmas cassette tape out as a kid! Maybe if I still had it, I'd have had more holly and jolly too, but it's been an exhausting month.
Ok 1 more comment (I should really wait until watching the whole podcast 🤪). We had a gingerbread house we bought I’m not even sure how many years ago (I remember paying $50) I believe it was from yacht or beach club. Disney delivered it to our room. We sprayed a clear coat on it when we got home and it preserved it really well for many years. We finally agreed it was time throw it away but got many a years to enjoy it thanks to that clear coat.
Merry Christmas y’all!! My first trip to DW ever was during the holiday. It will forever be a special time to go🎄 Even though it’s crowded as heck!
As always love the podcast, learn something new all the time. 😊I never go to the parks on the holidays because I have to spend time with family, but I always heard the Osborne lights were fantastic. Being that I’ve been to Galaxy Edge a couple of times I can say I am not that impressed with it. And I’ve been on Rise when the canons worked. Honestly I can skip it. I would like to see the Osborne lights come back & see it. 😊 Thanks Eric & Tom, great show.
Can we lobby to have Osborne Lights set up on the airstrip?
Or in Ft Wilderness?
I wore my “it’s a wrap” shirt last time I was at Disney a few weeks ago
Anybody else remember when the Magic Kingdom would set up its Christmas tree in the Rose Garden near Cinderella Castle until the parade had been filmed, and would then move the tree to Town Square? All in the name of Good Show. Dang, Disney used to be so much better simply because the decision-makers cared about more than quarterly bonuses.
Lol, 1 more comment…I just payed $400 for a New Kids On The Block concert ticket…The Blockheads are a real thing and there is a huge following 😊
Another great episode! And hell yes, Bronx Zoo Lights
They got rid of so much magic in the past 10 years, I can’t find a reason to visit
Ditch the pink on the castle or… bring back the all pink birthday cake castle.
I do love animal kingdom at Christmas
Tom, you need to go to Knott's Merry Farm. It is in my opinion better than Disneyland's Christmas. They have so much entertainment and everything is decorated from restaurants to shops and the entire park is covered in lights. Also, Snoopy on ice is unmatched
Tom hit the nail on the head with Disney. So eager to replace outstanding things with cheaper inferior entertainment.
Wait….is Tom a WWE/wrestling fan? Hearing CM Punk discussion on a WDWNT show was unexpected but very welcome for me 😅
I visited WDW for both Halloween and Christmas this year and came to the realization that Halloween events are that much more fun, that the Christmas events and regular features just aren’t near the amount of effort, and like said here, they decided they can cut a lot of features like the lighting leading up to Epcot, etc. and I can tell you as someone who fully experienced all parks during both trips, I would return for Halloween once again but until more efforts are added into special occasions, lighting, etc. for Christmas season I don’t intend to come back anytime soon. Oh and did I mention it’s also cheaper and less packed when you go during Halloween season especially if you go in September. It’s just an overall win to go in Halloween season, especially if you’re also a fan of the neighboring Universal Horror Nights. My guess is there won’t be a notable change in entertainment experiences going forward for them until attendance numbers are affected when Halloween season has not only surpassed Holiday season in attendance which I believe will eventually happen, but it actively causes a decline in attendance during the Winter season. At this point, like many other Disney experiences nowadays, is predicating on the naive foreign travelers to still generate interest, and the willingness of seasoned parkgoers to forgo less for more.
I feel completely cheated on when Disney removed the Osborne family festival of lights. Disney decided to love somebody else and left me and so many others behind. What would it take to get an attraction like that back again?
The idea that you should have to choose between Galaxy’s Edge or the family lights is nonsense. It’s like if, in order to make Pandora, they need to take out all the elephants in Animal Kingdom to save on costs. You can’t cut costs and reduce value and then also continue to charge customers more every year, and expect to remain the theme park Capitol of the world.
Jollywood Nights was the best opportunity for them to bring the Osborne Lights back. It should be free, but if they needed a specific return on investment, that was the way to fund it.
1900 Park Fare Character Dining and High Tea at the Grand also AWOL.
I don’t see a code to enter at Park Candy-also one of you needs to rock a skirt from them-I too Erik miss the lights over Main St and castle lights. What a mess candlelight is now-even with the advanced seating with the dine package the lines were starting super early.
The new couches at the GF-and coffee table-they’ve be chapecked-someone caught a sale at Home Goods.
You can enter your discount code in the checkout section on the right.
Eat the chocolate E.T.!!! 👽😂🍫
My name is Craig Dennis did you have a nice Christmas 👍👍👍👍👍👍
So does Disney own rights to The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights show if it’s been gone for so many years? Or does the Osborne family own the rights to it? Universal has the buildings to do the show there if that was possible, if Disney has no interest in bringing it back.
Instead of minnie's wonderful Christmas time fireworks I would have absolutely loved if they brought holiday wishes back with projections
See I actually like the new show better 😶
@@WDWNT that's valid
No mention of the contemporary wreath
I forgot, but also great
I prefer the location of Candlelight Processional at Disneyland, but it's basically impossible to get into since it's primarily for "VIP."
Also why would anyone complain about it being Christian? Christmas is literally a Christian holiday...it's even in the name lol🤯🤣
Can't Disney use their projection technology to simulate the castle lights?
Tom, why does Disney continue to change things we love and replace them with inferior offerings? It's almost as if they are trying to sabotage itself. Isn't that the basis of the proxy war thing?
Lil production would have gone a long way with this episode
How so?
@@WDWNT great episode, but pics and or B roll of the things you’re talking about would have added. I stopped and searched out a couple other videos so I had some visuals. Thanks for the content 🙏🏻
Quick question for Tom - Was there any residual income from Osborne lights during the rest of year? I personally love Galaxies Edge and have watched the Osborne lights and still prefer Galaxies Edge. Sorry to be different. Sometimes the changes have been to open things up to new guests and new revenue. I understand the love for things from the past. Just do not understand all the hate toward changing to accommodate new guests. I feel that if all the old school Disney fans wanting to keep things from past would pay the freight then they may keep what they want. i always find the same old school WDW fans always complain about pricing increases. Appears the newer guests feel the park value is worth it. As always great show Eric and Tom!
They only took away half the street really, so we have to wonder if they couldn’t just slid the land over a little and sacrificed a smidge of Toy Story Land (or built it out towards Animation Courtyard). I think “everything old is good and everything new is bad” is a simplistic and closed-minded view of what we’re trying to say most of the time. We’re presenting a litany of reasons more often than not. While I’m glad you enjoy SWGE, the fact is that Galaxy’s Edge hasn’t drawn the crowds expected and doesn’t test as highly with guests as Osborne did.
@@WDWNT That’s a valid point to consider. At same time not drawing crowds as expected is a bit misguided. Testing highly with guests is relative to when and who was questioned. I have never received any questionnaire about Osborne lights. I receive Disney questionnaires all the time. But I know many of my friends and family have gone to WDW just for Galaxies Edge. So again not sure if this is simplistic but enough people love Galaxies Edge to have as a current offering. Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one.
🎙️❤️💚🤍
Why is Tom so much harder to hear than Eric? Can Tom speak up?
I will eat that 20 year old chocolate on camera
Tom, I think you're in the minority on this occasion. Although the Osborne family's Christmas lights were beautiful, Galaxy's Edge is much better
I disagree. Christmas at Hollywood isn't as good there.
Definitely in the minority. Galaxies Edge is way better than the lights come on Tom😂
Sorry, I’ve been to Cars Land and Mysterious Island, I can’t care about a Star Wars land that wasn’t what I wanted
@@WDWNT fair, but Rise is one of the best rides disney has ever made
Strongly disagree. GE WAY OVERHYPED!
I'm probably the odd one out but as a seasonal guest I didn't like Osborne and wanted it gone. I just wanted to go to the park and see New York street/residential street as it was supposed to be shown, not with a bunch of crap vomited on top of it. They also looked terrible in the daytime.
Can we agree that you have no idea what "4 way stretch" means, and it's just some marketing BS you're clearly being paid to say. It sounds false and forced, and just makes me distrust everything you say about them.
