Finally catching up on this podcast and a great episode. I really like the idea of Route 66. That idea is on my bucket list too. 😮And something to discuss on next zoom meeting.😊 I am really enjoying these podcasts and I will catch up with past episodes I’ve missed.
There are few to none 100%'s in this business. A street AND dark ride would be an immediate mainstay of EPCOT/Disney. Like Tom, I do not understand Disney's reticence in developing...and building. Single dumbest miss I can think of....
yes the pavilion where soaring and living with the land is needs to be updated so bad. it looks so out of place and like a shopping center 😩 there is nothing disney-esque about it. I honestly wouldnt be sad if Soarin was changed to another ride or if that building is knocked down for something else. Arab nations definitely deserve a pavilion...there is something very very wrong with them profiting of an Arab tale like Aladdin and never representing this culture anywhere. Morocco doesnt count as it's African and not Middle Eastern. I love the Morocco pavilion and I dont know why they havent opened it back up when I went to Epcot this year it felt so dead :( it's arguably the most beautiful pavilion there and looks identical to Morocco irl.
Totally agree! We spent 5 weeks on Route 66 & I've missed being there every day since. We met lifelong friends and saw places that evoked emotions I didn't know I had. The Route changed my life like no other vacation, and I've traveled quite a bit. Route 66 has my 💜 - Highly suggest!!
We were just at Disneyland Paris and there was a man inside the castle dressed as a “Prince” (it was a miserable costume) and was charging $1 for autographs. He saw me taking a picture of him and ran down toward an exit. We also were in the park and someone was trying to sell us merchandise that was clearly not Disney merch. It was almost laughable. The cast members honestly did not care. We told multiple cast members about both experiences and they were like “yea that happens.” We weren’t super impressed with DL Paris besides the castle and the drone show.
To the cultural representation at Epcot. It would be more fitting for Disney to make a Native American pavilion. Specifically a Seminole inspired pavilion.
We have a Wizard of Oz “theme park” in NC called Land of Oz. I’m pretty sure it was abandoned then refurbished for some sort of seasonal festival. I’ve never been.
Here I am watching Tom talk about unbuilt attractions, some of them decades old, but the thing that shook me and made me feel old was that Charlie the Unicorn reference.
There is a Wizard of Oz "theme park" in North Carolina. It used to be open year round, now it is only seasonal for a few weeks. It is based off of the books and not the movie.
I think it's hilarious that Tom knows "Charlie the Unicorn" but doesn't know the song "Big Rock Candy Mountain". (It was a song about/by Hobos rather than children. So the Ives version is for children and doesn't talk about booze and cigarettes.)
Primeval Whirl was a must ride picture for our family for years. We are from Jersey and rode the "Mouse" at Seaside Pier which is the same ride. Yes, cheap but that's what made us laugh and love Disney's nod to roadside, pier rides.
Agree with the backstory of Dinoland, it’s a funky little spot and I’m sad to see it go. However I think the Excavator could be revived in the retheme. Firstly they’d need to drop encanto from the idea, yes it’s South American but the IP doesn’t work with the park. Keep the area broadly South American and Indiana jones/adventurelandy heavy. I think you could really work to add animals in a similar style to the jungle trek with abandoned temples or maybe Indy’s campsite being overrun by native wildlife (especially snakes 👀) etc. the boneyard is easy to retheme to Indy. Everyone knows Dino has the same track but putting in an extra MINECART coaster? What’s more fitting than that? Maybe it’s not the original intent but it’s a way to bring back an older concept in a way fitting to the park.
I think you could use the spot that’s Equitorial Africa for a rotating series of countries with shows, art displays, sample foods etc about that country. Basically somewhere between a food and wine fest booth and a full pavilion
I have a soft spot for DCA 1.0. I miss the kitschiness and the puns everywhere lol. Buena Vista Street is much more "refined" and beautiful, but also more "muted"... I would've liked to have seen the og Car Land that would've actually taken place in California. Radiator Springs is supposedly Arizona (not that cohesive theming matters anymore).
Would love to here a podcast on favourite themed lands. Or design your own castle park using the best lands from round the world and then your best non-castle theme park using lands from round the world (You could even add universal to that).
Eric apologizes after mentioning axel? Did something happen? It’s clear he isn’t on news tonight anymore, but I hope it wasn’t a negative reason he left. He was one of my favorites.
Cars Land like many other Disney attractions (including Big Thunder Mountain and Batuu) are inspired heavily by areas of S Utah, New Mexico, and N Arizona. If the guys want to road trip, Zion to Bryce via Hwy 12 to Moab and looping through Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, and Grand Canyon back to Vegas is one of the best road trips in the world.
A Mary Poppins ride sounds great as long as it is not a spinner ride. Hedge maze would be fun. I like Soarnin, but fix the projections and just go to the actual locations to film. Magic carpet ride in Morocco would be great.
Very few of us that were Disney kids in the 70’s and 80’s were waiting for the TRON arcade in Communicore…..never came! We also were always looking at the park art in our Polynesian room….all the unbuilt hotels themed to all the lands…and so much unbuilt EPCOT…..
I’m STILL SO SAD ABOUT ZERO MARY POPPINS. IDK why they can’t understand the multiple generations that would adore the originally proposed ride. I’d be so grateful if Disney would just ask US what we want, instead of making the decisions for us. Majority Rules!!! Just ask the customers!!! Aaahhhh😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Ngl, the Excavator ride sounded cheesy. And what does it say that Universal closed all of its "Beastly Kingdom" type rides? Maybe Animal Kingdom dodged a bullet? As for Candy Mountain, wasn't it presented to Walt, and all agreed that it looked like a gloppy, unappetizing mess?
My idea for Mary Poppins in the UK could do something similar to the American adventure....have both Julia Andrews an Emily blunt narrate a story an have animatronic sets depicting the story...could have mes. Andrews do peter pan an have Mrs. Blunt do pooh or Alice...an maybe have them singing a few songs in-between an maybe towards the end have a actor dressed as Mary Poppins walk around the crowd..or I'd want a dark ride....wdw in my opinion doesn't have enough fantasy land style dark rides like they do in Disneyland
One evening as the sun went down And the jungle fire was burning Down the track came a hobo hikin' And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning I'm headed for a land that's far away Beside the crystal fountains So come with me, we'll go and see The Big Rock Candy Mountains "In The Big Rock Candy Mountains There's a land that's fair and bright Where the handouts grow on bushes And you sleep out every night Where the boxcars all are empty And the sun shines every day On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees The lemonade springs where the bluebird sings In The Big Rock Candy Mountains "In The Big Rock Candy Mountains All the cops have wooden legs And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs The farmers' trees are full of fruit And the barns are full of hay Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow Where the rain don't fall, the wind don't blow In The Big Rock Candy Mountains "In The Big Rock Candy Mountains You never change your socks And the little streams of alcohol Come a-trickling down the rocks The brakemen have to tip their hats And the railroad bulls are blind There's a lake of stew and of whiskey, too You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe In The Big Rock Candy Mountains "In The Big Rock Candy Mountains The jails are made of tin And you can walk right out again As soon as you are in There ain't no short-handle shovels No axes, saws or picks I'm a-goin' to stay where you sleep all day Where they hung the jerk that invented work In The Big Rock Candy Mountains "I'll see you all this comin' fall In the Big Rock Candy Mountains"
Great job Tom and Bearic! Love this format and content! What if Soarin' was like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind but the movie is random each time instead of the song?
Dino land pretty much sucked. A land designed for tots designed a roller coaster for exceedingly tall humans--I never got to ride it as my daughter could ride EVERY OTHER RIDE in the parks--minus Primevil--WTF were they thinking?
I do see what you are saying about the curvature of the Eiffel Tower. It’s not great. My family all prefer Soaring Around The World. We recently rode the original twice and did not like it as much either time.
None of the Disney villains are evil enough to be a HOA president
More and more podcast please. Truly enjoy these.
Finally catching up on this podcast and a great episode. I really like the idea of Route 66. That idea is on my bucket list too. 😮And something to discuss on next zoom meeting.😊 I am really enjoying these podcasts and I will catch up with past episodes I’ve missed.
Enjoying this new content! thank you
I’m Mary Poppins y’all!
7!?
Yeah, 7.
Love these!
Rode remi one time never again, was not worth the wait in line
THERE'S STORYBOOK BOATS THAT ENDS WITH RETURN TO OZ IN PARIS???
I know, right?? I've always wanted to see the Paris park and this is icing on the cake

Please do talk about the planned theme monorail resorts that also never happened! The Mediterranean, The Persian, Asian, etc. 🙏
Yes! Do a unbuilt resort video and monorail expansions!
Route 66 is an absolute treasure and not boring if you like the history of it. Lots of good people out there

The fact that we could have an Oz land at Disneyland instead of Galaxy's Edge gives me many mixed feelings... By Tony Baxter? Man... like... Man.
Can you imagine the gift shop attached to a Mel Brooks ride? Lunchboxes and t shirts and flamethrowers...
To the cultural representation at Epcot. It would be more fitting for Disney to make a Native American pavilion. Specifically a Seminole inspired pavilion.

Tom! I am from Morocco and I would love to see morocco pavilion going and Sinbad instead. I love Sinbad! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ my childhood hero
Everytime I hear someone say Lawrence Kansas I think "Dean, take your brother outside as fast as you can and don't look back."
IYKYK

When I went to Disneyland, "Blazing saddles'" was being played in the Frontierland loop
Yeah it’s gone now
I think it's hilarious that Tom knows "Charlie the Unicorn" but doesn't know the song "Big Rock Candy Mountain".
(It was a song about/by Hobos rather than children. So the Ives version is for children and doesn't talk about booze and cigarettes.)
Would love an episode of Tom just talking about Japan

That Bald Mountain ride sounds like Kingdom Hearts 1 hahahaha.
I'd pay good money to see a KH1 dark ride happen.
I just saw my likes folder on UA-cam and this was the 5000th video I’ve liked. You guys have great videos keep em coming

Would have loved a MP ride where the horses left the track and were lifted from above like you were flying
Big Rock Candy Mountain came out in 1928 and is about a hobo's view of the world. It's not the best song for kids.
Eric apologizes after mentioning axel? Did something happen? It’s clear he isn’t on news tonight anymore, but I hope it wasn’t a negative reason he left. He was one of my favorites.

I'm a Kansan who definitely rolled my eyes at Tom's Oz comments.

Insert hilarious “Can’t wait until they talk about the marionette show!” Here.
I had no idea there was a story about G Force Records and the HTH. Wow.
Get a bus and raffle off tickets to join you on that Route 66 trip. :D
Very few of us that were Disney kids in the 70’s and 80’s were waiting for the TRON arcade in Communicore…..never came! We also were always looking at the park art in our Polynesian room….all the unbuilt hotels themed to all the lands…and so much unbuilt EPCOT…..
but if four people, can you believe it FOUR people walked in, sang the praises of Soarin' and walked out friends....
they might think it's a movement
Please talk about the peoplemovers we never got at Epcot
I’m STILL SO SAD ABOUT ZERO MARY POPPINS. IDK why they can’t understand the multiple generations that would adore the originally proposed ride. BTW i was referencing Mary Poppins in my previous post...the villian land is a good idea, but difficult to pull off--on the scale a 70%
The Kingdom Keepers book series had the villains working together to destroy Disney.
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hikin'
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Beside the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains
"In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
There's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
"In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall, the wind don't blow
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
"In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey, too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
"In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
The jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again
As soon as you are in
There ain't no short-handle shovels
No axes, saws or picks
I'm a-goin' to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
"I'll see you all this comin' fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains"
Mary Poppins! My favorite movie. A huge missed opportunity in my opinion.
Please everybody stop at guest relations about "Old Sorin'" so I can see it when I go in January.
What ship you goin on Tom?
Magic
"It costs how much to go to the Mel Brooks Theme Park?"
"Somebody go back and get a s*** load of dimes!"
Great job Tom and Bearic! Love this format and content!
What if Soarin' was like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind but the movie is random each time instead of the song?
First time I went to Cars Land it absolutely blew me away. It really felt immersive. I hope that’s how the Encanto space feels.
Getting the villains all together is the same story of kingdom hearts
We are going to Disney in the middle and January and hoping they don’t get rid of the original Soarin at the end of the year. We miss it so much!
Same
South America is another continent that has no representation in Ak or epcot
Pleasure Island stories please!!!
Tom has the best takes every time I swear
OMG YES BACKSTORY EPISODE PLEASE
Im curious, is Back to the Future Live ever coming back?
It may but we’re focusing on other programming now
Dino land pretty much sucked. A land designed for tots designed a roller coaster for exceedingly tall humans--I never got to ride it as my daughter could ride EVERY OTHER RIDE in the parks--minus Primevil--WTF were they thinking?
That land isn’t made for children
that area is and will be the most skippable of DAK. it looked so cheap too 😭 it wasn’t even cool or enticing when I was a kid lol
Radiator springs (or the location that inspired it rather) is located in AZ
Look at the maps in the movie, it’s Barstow area
I do see what you are saying about the curvature of the Eiffel Tower. It’s not great. My family all prefer Soaring Around The World. We recently rode the original twice and did not like it as much either time.
Thankgod there getting rid of Dino land. Remove the jungle cruise and carousel of progress also. Bring in new and get rid of the pointless old.
Tom's excitement about Mel Brooks is one of the weirdest things he has ever said. Cult classics at best. Terrible idea for a theme park.
Uhhh, Blazing Saddles was the TOP GROSSING FILM of 1974 and has been entered into the National Film Registry.
@@WDWNT, Three Men and a Baby was the top grossing movie of 1987
