  • Johnny Horton singing Plaid & Calico. The song appeared on the B-Side of a 10" 78 RPM Single, released by the Cormac Records Label in 1951. (The A-Side was Done Rovin')
    The Abbott Records Label reissued the track also in 1951.
    In 1953 Abbott released the tune on the A-Side of a 7" 45 RPM Single. (The B-Side was Shadows on the Old Bayou)
    The audio can be heard on the A-Side of a 1959 7" 45 RPM Single released by the Dot Records Label. (The B-Side was Shadows on the Old Bayou)
    Dot included the song on Side-1 of the self-titled LP Johnny Horton in 1959.
    The track can be found on a 2005 remastered compilation CD released by the Varèse Sarabande Records Label.
    CD-1 of a 2-CD compilation set titled North to Alaska and Other Great Hits, released in 2012 by the Jasmine Records Label is also home to the tune.
    It was written by Ron Blalock and Wes McWain.

    I have always liked Johnny Horton; but, I don't think my parents did. Maybe, they weren't familiar with him. The song that I remember best was The Battle of New Orleans, which was written by Jimmy Driftwood. Johnny won a Grammy for the song in 1960 for the best country and western song for The Battle of New Orleans.
