Damn I really needed to hear this, 18 years old, unemployed, 600$ in debt, graduated highschool and all my friends are either in college or learning a trade, makes me feel like I'm falling behind, coco gives me inspiration, to get out there and keep failing and trying until I find what I love, because right now I have no clue. You're right, most people who are 18, let alone 25 don't know what the fuck they want, so just keep living and don't dwell on that shit and do what makes you happy.

There's never a reason to rush. Life works itself out. The only thing I want to mention is nowadays you will definitely get caught faking a resume or school. Any decent employer with access to the internet will definitely check. PSA Don't try it unless you're positive they won't check...

Something that helps me is that I feel more prepared than anyone else in the real world, but I’m not as confident. I feel dumb but compared to my peers I know a lot. I work as a writing consultant and yesterday I helped a Chinese study abroad student with her paper to go for her doctorate program. And I’m really worried, then Joey talks about how he would just make up fake resumes and people I know do shady shit and live fine... but I’m worried about all that stuff.

When I was in school we had shop(woodworking) and I’m not sure about auto. We had just started a computer engineering class and I did that.
But I agree with him. All skilled trades, are hurting for the most part. College was pushed and pushed and pushed, and now there’s a skilled trades shortage and people with student loan debt through the roof.
Find your local Union and get in an apprenticeship, or a non Union company that’s good and learn from them.
I’m an operating engineer outta Ohio and yes the money is there. All I’ve ever done though. Since I was 16, run equipment. Even younger at home running a farm tractor.
Do what you love, not what someone pushes on you. And you can’t just chase the money. If o was chasing money, I’d travel the country on pipelines.

Jay S it’s also a problem finding people to teach these classes in regular high schools, most woodshop teachers try to find votech (technical schools) schools to teach at. No shop is paying a mechanic $45.00.... They pay you like $24.00 tops flat rate and tell you to hustle. Then they tell you, your pay after all your hustle is equivalent to $45.00 per/hour.. Come on JoeY you should a known that!

    • @fieldfairy9845

I think that Joey Diaz is referring to the hourly labor rate customers are charged…and $45/hour is a common labor rate.
You’re definitely correct about $24/hour being on the higher end of a mechanic’s hourly wage. It would not surprise me one bit if Joey got these two mixed up.

After high school I would say do a trade program and get a few years experience, if you truly want to go to college these few years will give you plenty of time to figure out if you do want to go the college route and what degree to pursue (Because that matters a lot). If you decide to stick with the trade route then get five years experience and most importantly start your own business. Lastly, if I had to do it over again I would join the military do my twenty and work for a government institution and get my twenty. If you join the military at 18 and follow that route you would have two pensions by 58.

Back in the day you could find and excellent back yard mechanic. Not today because everything is electronics and if that guy is gonna pay $45hr then the mechanic is gonna be ASE certified. I went to a trade school in high school and I took auto mechanics. I graduated in 1998 when cars were just starting to be all computers and electronics but there wasn't many of them in the shop. I worked on a lot of late 70s 80s and early 90s cars. I actually rebuilt a 55 Bel air engine with a 3 speed 9n the column, great car. But I couldn't really work on cars today like back then. Don't get me wrong I change my own oil, brakes, ball joints, valve cover gaskets, stuff like that but even doing a oil change on my Cadillac after I'm done with it I after press down a few buttons to clear the digital dash saying needs oil change. Never in my life before that I had to do that at the end of a oil change and it's a 98 Cadillac Deville. Today you're both a technician and a mechanic to work on these newer cars. Give me a older car anyday.

Joey Diaz is one of the best story tellers in comedy today; like all great truth tellers, he has a unique perspective with a straight shot of irony.

Majority of the reps have no fucking clue on what drug their selling. Most of the time they hire reps based on looks. Because beautiful people can sell anything easier than a slug

Pretty much, it's no coincidence that when you look at any company, the most successful sales people are all the most attractive.

I work on all my own vehicles and almost everyone in my family's vehicles, I just love doing it. I hate getting up at the same time every morning and shit and listening to some asshole boss. Been beating on old junkers even before I got my license, even if I've never replaced something on a car I know I can get it done. There is no doubt in my abilities and aptitude I just know how to figure out how to do shit like that.

I don't make shit for money doing it either I just take whatever they have to give. All sorts of stuff that I love doing and make enough money to eat but nowhere near enough to pay bills, and there isn't a lot of opportunity doing it yourself outside of maybe finding someone who is loaded and willing to start a business for me to run.

I learned to weld by my father who did it professionally at age 13. So glad I did as it can pay very well and great thing to know how to do. Someone always needs something welded. Also suggest MIG, TIG, and Aluminum.
