- Nick Saban is a defensive mastermind. He had a seminar with coaches going over cover 1 and how it should be played. The most crucial information about how he wanted cover 1 man to be played had to do with the imaginary divider lines and how defenders should leverage in relation to that and the middle safety.
This video shows the quick and minor adjustment you should make while playing cover 1 man to make it play so much better and efficient. Another weapon to add in the toolbox.

This is exactly how bill belichick used Revis and Brandon browner, I remember against the lions he put Revis on #2 and browner on Calvin Johnson with bracket coverage help, so essentially the QB had to make a decision wether to throw in double coverage to megatron or to Revis smothering the #2 receiver
Yup, same against the Chiefs in the AFC title game in 2018.
- Doubled Tyreek with McCourty (FS) & Jonathan Jones (4th corner)
- Singled up Gilmore on Sammy Watkins the entire game
- Singled up J.C. Jackson on Kelce (He explained that they treated Kelce like a receiver, thus putting a corner on him instead of a safety)
Patrick Chung robbed the middle, Hightower & Van Noy manned up the back & blitzed
Reek finished with 1 catch for 51 yards & Kelce 3 catches 31 yards, even with the game going to overtime. It was brilliant

This is a good explanation for sure. It seems like a lot of you haven’t been seeing field the right way so I’m glad he’s opening your eyes. Find any college level player and they’ll be able to show you a lot more. A DB has to know what all the other DBs are doing too like a unit. Football is really the best sport

In addition maybe is because the hashes are wider in college football so the numbers would be further out.....I labbed c 1 exclusively.... motion gives it issues 3 rec walls off like he's playing match zones..don't know if bandjo works .the rb gets loose sometimes...if you got a pass rush....it's a a good defense to run
ok so i actually reupped my account to lab online. the results ....7-2 running cover 1 with matching zones depending on formation hash mark etc. there were no drops set. used mostly speed setting with some route running mixed in on short yardage. should've been 9-0 but you know madden gives the obligatory win to bums...in 21 games i went 16-5. I support this breakdown. and this was on madden 21. so im sure 23 is better since they improved the man coverage...salute xando! keep them coming ...
All good Doolow. Man coverage is actually better in Madden. It's pretty damn good. I typically run it against more spread sets, and when they decide to bunch it up, or compress the sets, I jump to something else to avoid the crossing action.
@@XandoFootball what I was doing against bunch was shading outside and pressing the point...playing high safety looking for post if none I try to rob the crosser or at least make them think about the read...I run with the chargers
@@TeddyCruxpin Nasty. I guarantee you'll come up with other ways to play it the more you do. Then imagine mixing it up with other defensive calls while giving the same look. You'll really start smashing when you can play a cover 1 blitz where you are bringing 5 and are able to get that 5th guy to come scott free while still playing cover 1 behind it.
Yeah inside the divider play outside leverage to the inside. And outside the divider play with inside leverage because your help is the sideline and it'll be a harder to throw in between the defender and the sideline. I wish madden had Cov 1 cross that the Pats use. Good breakdown
Not sure if you noticed but in the clip with the bunch set & nub TE they banjo’d the back when he released and the TE went up field so the leverage on the player covering the TE flipped to the inside. I wonder if a smash concept from the nub side will work. With the back free releasing since leverage is now flipped on the TE because of the Banjo the corner should win every time with a good placed pass theoretically.

How did you adjust de DBs individually on inside or outside coverage. It's something new on M23 because in M22 I don't find it. Only have the general inside / outside adjustment for the DBs.
If youre ps5 . . . I believe it's Triangle, then the icon over the receiver your defender is on, then you can make that specific corner play outside or inside shade.
How do you individually shade a corner?

Cover 1 robber does not play the way it's supposed to.
Envision a 2 x 2 set . . .
From left to right .
X receiver - Slot - Offensive line - Tight end - Z receiver.
Let's say the safety on the Z receiver's side is playing robber and the safety on the two receiver side is deep middle. Well, if the slot receiver runs a crossing pattern, his man defender will play with outside leverage and pass that receiver off to the robber safety on the opposite side, who will then convert into man to man coverage having better leverage on the crosser. That corner who passed off the slot to the robber safety now becomes the NEW robber.
In madde, the robber never converts to man to man coverage on receivers like this . . .
However . . . I like to play regular cover 1 without the robber when I want to bring a 5th defender on a blitz. If I don't bring a 5th defender ona blitz, than I use Madden's robber. I hope this makes sense. If not . . . I can make a vid for you.

What is your opinion of the coverages in this iteration of Madden?? Better or worse that pervious games?
Cover 1 has improved big time.
I don't play enough cover 3 stuff to give a valid opinion on it. I will need more playing time.
All the other coverages they have in the game that I know of have issues.
There are some bugs in the match coverages.
They are missing coverages we should have.
Cover 4 stress check . . . Cover 5 cougar . . . Matching problems from 2 read coverages . . . etc. There's just a lot of problems with Madden. The coverage they improved the most is cover 1 man in my opinion.
I'm not really that satisfied to be honest. For the amount of money we as the consumers have put into this game over the years, there is just no excuse to the amount of stuff they are missing or have wrong.
@@XandoFootball u are right because. I tried using coverages you went over to defend certain formations. It just doesnt work
@@XandoFootball madden needs all of the checks for Cover 1 DBL, Switch, Rabbit, Duece,. Cover 3 checks for trips, Cover 4 checks. So much missing. The real issue is players are running unrealistic route combinations that teams would NEVER run.

In real life football or Madden?
Saban was talking about real life.
If he could run it the majority of the time, I think he would. But you can't run it if your opponent has superior talent. They will just run you off the field. That's one of the reasons why Saban wouldn't play it.
For instance, years back, when he was with the Browns - they went 13-3 for the year. They lost 2 of their 3 regular season games against one team - The steelers.
They played each other in the playoffs. They lost again to the Steelers.
Essentially, they couldn't play cover 1 man against them {Superior talent at the wide out position iirc}. But he wanted to keep an extra defender in the box {One of the benefits of cover 1 man} . . . so they played cover 3 zone instead knowing that they couldn't play man . . . but at least they can get 8 in the box against the Steelers.
Steelers just 4 verted them when they went 3 zone. So they couldn't play 1 man, or cover 3 zone. Now they go to 2 man or 2 high stuff? Steelers run on them. Season over.
That summer, he designed cover 3 match to solve that problem.
